DW: More SoD

For those that don't watch Doctor Who, here's a clip from last Saturday's episode. This is the kind of quirky stuff that I just love about the show. :D

Jack things

*they stand in the remodulated console room*

Jack: Is this what I think it is?

Oh Jack, you are AWESOME! :D Yeah, the line was a repeat from Boom Town, but he actually *knows* what these things are! He totally needs to go traveling with the Doctor again.

Also, Jack was still carrying around his TARDIS key? I think he was! At least, that's what I'm assuming. The Doctor monkeyed with three keys - Martha's key, his own key, and I'm thinking Jack still had his. Awwwww! ETA: Oh yeah. There was this, you know, scene where Jack takes his key off his keyring... That I apparently blanked on.

Doctor thing

I watched the episode again last night and the beginning just cracks me up. So here you had this slow and gentle love story between the Doctor and Rose for two series, where sometimes you saw the Doctor still being cautious/flailing/skittish about some things even in S2 - just being really careful about things, basically.

The Master comes along and seems to be, "Hey, baby! *gets married*" :D And then the Doctor's reaction!

"The Master and WIFE??!" [OMGWTF?!!!]

*cracks up* I'm also imagining the Doctor's reaction probably mirrored some ultra-traditionalists, right before they fainted dead away at the Master being married. (And when they woke up, I'm sure spent hours metaing about how the Master and Lucy most certainly never had sex...) *cracks up again*

I absolutely think Jack still has his TARDIS key, just like I'm sure that Rose has turned hers into a necklace she always wears, over in AU-land. I mean, seriously. It's all they really had of their travels with the Doctor; the clothes on their back, maybe an easily-breakable mobile phone, and that key. Of COURSE they've still got their keys. I mean, look how Jack was over that hand.

I love the look on the Doctor's face there. I mean, the Master as Prime Minister is shocking, yes, but not nearly as much as him taking a wife. *cracks up*

I've heard third-hand that some Old-Schoolers are flailing away over at Outpost Gallifrey about Lungbarrow (the whole looms thing) and this episode. Not sure what about specifically, as the poster was wisely fleeing the thread and didn't want to talk about it, and I feel absolutely no inclination whatsoever to go wandering in the OG forums.

Yeah, I'm sure Rose has got it with her at all times, and Jack did as well. Has the Doctor said before that the key is actually a piece of the TARDIS? He probably has, but I'd forgotten that bit for some reason.

Exactly! :D

Oh, hell no. I wonder if looms were supposed to spit out an adult? But they showed the Master as a kid? (Even though Romana said something about being a Time Tot once.) Or maybe it's the part about the kids being taken away from their families? I mean, that's pretty much saying they had family units instead of...whatever else was dreamed up.

Oh, hey - I'm at work at the moment and thus can't watch the YouTube scene. I'm curious - which scene is it?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-06-26 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the here come the drums scene. :D

He's so funny-cute & I love him. Oh, Tennant. *sigh* ... *ahem* Aaaanyway:

JACK! THE DOCTOR! TARDIS KEY! (i will not repeat my previous "their love is so touch-y feel-y comment. i will NOT. oh, i just did? darn.)

!!!

(Well, if I can't have The Doctor & Rose, i may as well have The Doctor & Jack. Not quite as good, but you can't always get what you haven't paid for.)

THAT CLIP. I swore that I wasn't gonna spoil myself for Season 3 until I could watch the whole thing altogether & I KNOW that I've totally just ruined the ENTIRE season but OMG! I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT. IT IS HI-LARIOUS. Teeheehee! They used Rogue Traders... to kill the universe (or whatever... shut up, I'm relatively spoiler-free...) bahahahahahaha HA! *ahem*

Have I already said I want Jack in S4? Something about screwing Torchwood? *ahem*

but OMG! I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT. IT IS HI-LARIOUS. Teeheehee! They used Rogue Traders... to kill the universe

YUP! It was so unexpected, too! LOVED IT.

Well, I'm sure they've all been screwed enough over there. ;)

I loved that the Doctor knew Jack still had his key too. Little things amuse me like that.

Also, the blog's been updated.

*RUNS OFF*

The Master and WIFE ... yes, particularly OMGWTF after the Master's "... and by a girl" comment in Utopia.

He just doesn't seem the girl-friendly type.

That said, it's really Lucy's response to the opening of the rift that has me thinking she's not quite all human: she's dancing to the beat of unheard (by anyone but the viewing audience) music; the tapping of her feet, the way she moves ... it's just ... robotic.

I know! It really *is* bizarre. :D

I keep wondering if there's more to Lucy than we know as well. But she does have this supposed history and a life. And some of her reactions were fairly human - like being squeemish at that woman getting killed. But then she's got this other side to her. Dunno, really.

[identity profile] velvet4269.livejournal.com 2007-06-26 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Squeamish, or child-like?

She seems oh-so-very child-like; and I found it interesting that she's not once mentioned in the Doctor Who Confidential ep. afterwords.

I really do hope we get to see more of Lucy's story in the next episode - she seems too much a part of all of it to let go.

And Lucy having a past - how much of that could have been really fabricated by The Master? Much easier to create someone else's past than it is your own ...

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-06-26 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, who knows. She could very well also be one of these ball things.

[identity profile] kb91.livejournal.com 2007-06-26 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
she's dancing to the beat of unheard (by anyone but the viewing audience) music; the tapping of her feet,

I'm with you on thinking she might not be fully human, but she most definitely was dancing to the music we heard. That's what made this scene so hilarious -- the Master actually cued the music to blare inside the room! (TARDIS Dance Party, heh.) If it was just music we heard, it would have been amusing, but the Master creating his own soundtrack had me ROTFL.

See, this scene makes me wonder more and more about who/what Lucy actually is. I mean, when the Master says "here come the drums" and she starts dancing, it's like she's almost having some sort of fantasy - the quirky smile on her face, the way she's touching her lips etc. It definitely tends to suggest she has more than just knowledge of the Toclafane (or whatever they are called), and perhaps even is a representation of one.

And yes, I'm sure the old school reaction to the Master being married was horror - though perhaps not as bad as their reaction to what they regard as Ace Ventura meets The Riddler (http://www.behindthesofa.org.uk/2007/06/here-come-the-d.html). I personally thought it strange, but hopefully we'll find out more.

Anyway, it is interesting speculation anyway. :)

Wow, they just do NOT like New Who. RTD=SATAN. :D

Wow, they just do NOT like New Who. RTD=SATAN.

Well, this guy anyway. For most episodes they post around 6 or 7 reviews by different contributors. They go from one end of the spectrum to the other, but most generally seem positive. This guy just obviously doesn't like RTD that much.

Jack definitely had his key -- in the scene where the Doctor starts going all McGuyver, he holds out his hand for Martha to give hers, then held out his other hand to Jack. Jack pulled a full keyring out of his pocket and started rifling through it, trying to find the right one. The Doctor even does a little "come on, come on!" gesture as he waits. Too funny!

You're right! I must have completely zoned out during that or something! Wow.

That's just such a fantastic expression. :)

I loved that Jack still carried his key! The thing about Jack in these episodes is that he keeps making me think of Rose's line "he showed me a better way to live your life." Jack seems like the embodiment of that idea. He was completely transformed by the Doctor (and by Rose) and his whole "I built it for you, in your honor" is like an admission of that. He's done these things because he was living up to the expectations the Doctor had of him, or something like that.

And yes, screw Torchwood. :)

Oh, that is a *fantastic* point! And so true! When they picked him up, he was running cons without so much as a care for the people he ran across. Now he's trying to save the world on a daily basis.
