The Last of the Time Lords
- One year later, eh? Someone's been watching BSG. And they *still* cheat at the Martha character development by doing a fast-forward.
- The Doctor would look like Gollum if he'd never regenerated. Heh heh.
- Shiny gold stars to whoever called the Utopians being the Toclafane!
- Um...I don't really understand the whole telepathy thing. And glowy god!Doctor? Giving forgiveness to the Master? What just happened? But at least the Doctor and the Master are now in a stone quary. No really, what just happened?
- Poor, poor Doctor. He so wanted the Master as his companion. Which would have been cracktasticly fantastic, by the way. Okay, sorry. I was kinda snickering a bit during the Master death scene. I know – it was supposed to be heartbreaking. But I needed *more* or something to buy the Doctor being all heartbroken. Or something. I don't know, it was weird. And then the Doctor pulls a Luke and burns
Darth Vaderthe Master. - No, Jack! Screw Torchwood and go with the Doctor, dammit! He wants you along! Everyone wants you along!!
- *laughs at the 'Jack is the Face of Boe' reveal* *and then kicks Jack in the ass for not WARNING the Doctor about a lot of things*
- Well, goodbye Martha. And goodbye Martha's unrequited love. Glad she'd finally had enough. But it seems clear enough now that they built this into her character, knowing she was going to be a one-series companion and wanted a natural exit. Still hated the whole crush thing since it happened while the Doctor was in mourning so it always came off as insensitive and shallow, but...MEH. Oh well. It's over now.
- So Christmas will be the Titanic, eh? Hmm. Think I've seen that. Although, didn't Nine say he'd been on the Titanic? If they would manage to get CE to do one episode for a Nine–Ten meetup, I would LOVE THEM FOREVER.
- Overall, I'd agree with some in saying it wasn't the thrilling conclusion we've seen other finales be. It was...okay. I mean, witness my lack of points when for other episodes I've been spazzing. I sorta wish the Master had been kept by the Doctor, instead of being in the ring and picked up by probably Lucy. Because that could have been a whole lot of fun. But at least since the Master is still alive, I still can have hope for my three-way Mexican Standoff between the Doctor, the Master and the Dalek next year.
- ETA: No, really. What happened here? Last week's episode clipped along and was riveting. This was...I kept noticing the time. It both felt like it dragged and felt rushed - at the same time! How's that possible?
- ETA2: Oh! And what was this business with the Master wanting to create New Gallifrey? Was the Master trying to make a new Eye of Harmony? Or...did he put Time Lord DNA in the Utopians? And so these sort of Time Lords (but not really by hardly *any* stretch of the imagination) lived again? They kinda lost me there. *CONFUSED* And what was the deal at the very beginning saying the Earth was off-limits? Earth hadn't been part of a interplanetary system yet, had it? *cries at the confusion*
- ETA3: *pats the Doctor* He was all psuedo perky and bouncy to try and get Martha to come along. Like DT said before S3 aired - the Doctor's looking for an acquaintance, but Martha's looking for a boyfriend. The Doctor still wasn't doing that family thing with the Joneses, in spite of just having spent a year with them. Yeah, Martha was wise to get out because he just never would have been looking at her like that. His expression to her said as much as well. He just wanted not to be lonely, but she wanted more. Oh, Doctor. I wish you weren't lonely.
- ETA4: Wonder if we'll still get the Doctor with his 'humans are bad' next series, or if he'll have now seen the light. I mean, on the one hand, you had humanity bringing about its own destruction. And humanity's fate is to wind up trapped in the darkness at the end of time. But on the other hand, it was humanity that ended up saving themselves by believing in the Doctor... Hey RTD, is the Doctor supposed to be Jesus? o_O

As usual with RTD the big emotional scenes were breathtaking, so long as you didn't look too closely at what was going on all around them. At least the rumour that Jack would never be able to see Ten again turned out to be unfounded. And we have a finale I could watch without crying.

The what now?

Yeah, I'd be cranky if Jack and the Doctor could never meet again.
And actually, Jack's gonna *have* to meet up with the Doctor sooner or later, since I don't think the Doctor ever filled Jack in on the Face of Boe. And the Face of Boe was talking about "we'll meet for the third time, for the last time." So, he'd gotten info about this from the Doctor.
My Crackpot Theory will go on
Red dress = Kate Winslet in Titanic. And what were the names of the lovers in that movie? There was even an iconic piece of jewellry- a necklace I recall.
However, the making out in a vintage car below decks may have to be left to the imagination of fanfiction writers.
What was the last thing that we saw happening to the Doctor? He was thrown a lifebelt.

Also what I thought. Yeah, so she became a legend, turned into commando-Martha and we didn't get to see any of the process? Pffft. But I have to say, I liked her in her scenes at the end, inside the TARDIS. There you go, Martha, now, go find that other Doctor :)
And then the Doctor pulls a Luke and burns
Darth Vaderthe Master.HAHAHA, I thought the same thing when I watched that part! XD
I thought that finale was OK but lacked something... Sure, I bawled my eyes out when the Master died because Ten broke my heart, but for instance we didn't get to see who Lucy really was (or did I miss it?), and what was that with the ring? And yeah, the pacing felt a little off too.
I like the Master's line about humans being the greatest monsters in the universe, or something like that (and that face inside the ball laughing and saying they killed because it was fun). Not so far from the truth...
Erm... I'll watch it again tomorrow and I'll take some notes then ^^

Well, the writers have shortcut her character all series, why should now be any different, I guess.
But I have to say, I liked her in her scenes at the end, inside the TARDIS. There you go, Martha, now, go find that other Doctor :)
I was glad to see her making that decision for herself. (DW's all about that personal choice in the end - Jack, Pete, Rose, Mickey, even Adam who made a bad one...) But I'm also happy that Martha ran back in to tell the Doctor about why she was doing it. Maybe he'll be a little more careful with people in the future? Sort of? Although, the way he was with Martha was *seriously* the way he was with the vast majority of companions in the classic series. Mr. Absent-Minded Professor.
Sure, I bawled my eyes out when the Master died because Ten broke my heart,
I think I've just become too jaded - there has been so much tears and anguish this series that it was just kind of...okay then.
but for instance we didn't get to see who Lucy really was
I think she was just a nutty human. Wish we'd gotten so much more about her.
and what was that with the ring?
I'm guessing it's like the watch? It contains the Master? I don't remember any rings from the classic series though.
And yeah, the pacing felt a little off too.
It was strange. Like this episode should have been a two-parter itself, or something. With the first episode doing a lot more setup and details, like showing Martha on the run for more than 5 minutes. And the 2nd episode way more action-packed.
I like the Master's line about humans being the greatest monsters in the universe, or something like that (and that face inside the ball laughing and saying they killed because it was fun). Not so far from the truth...
Yeah. It kinda went with everything they've done this series - showing the underside of humanity.

Although I must say, thank goodness that spoiler about Jack being unable to see the Doctor again this regeneration was false (I went back and looked). I have a smidgen of hope.
no subject
Well, Jack's *gotta* see the Doctor again to get the info about how many times they were going to meet. Oh, but I guess it could be a later incarnation.
But the Doctor's with Jack when he finally dies. That's rather nice.

I know, right? About ten minutes in I was looking at my watch and thinking, "OH GOD AND THIS ONE'S FIFTY MINUTES."
I...have no idea how I felt about this one. I didn't hate it. But I sort of lost interest at the very beginning, because as soon as "one year later" popped up, I knew the episode wouldn't really "count" and I'm iffy on episodes that don't count.
Man, I feel bad for the Doctor. He needs a kitten. A Time Lord kitten, that never dies, just regenerates into a much cuter kitten than the one that came before.
no subject
Yeah. And I was fairly certain that big old reset button was going to be pushed, so it was all kind of...I don't know. Reset buttons are big old cheats. At least the Joneses - all of the Joneses - remember.
Man, I feel bad for the Doctor. He needs a kitten. A Time Lord kitten, that never dies, just regenerates into a much cuter kitten than the one that came before.
YES. Totally needs a Time Kitten.

Wait. What am I saying? I want a meet-up too XD
Um...I don't really understand the whole telepathy thing. And glowy god!Doctor? Giving forgiveness to the Master? What just happened? But at least the Doctor and the Master are now in a stone quary. No really, what just happened?
Yeah. I was wondering about that. But really:
1. Tinkerbell! "Clap your hands if you believe in fairies!"
2. You know that scene in SG-1 "Threads", with the glowy!Ancients...

The first I've actually seen of Martha was in TSoD (*cough*) and I thought that shift was a bit hard to believe as well. The "One Year Later" thing for me was a bit of a...an anticlimax, I guess, after the last episode.
Ten's "Okay." when he realises his pseudo-cheeriness won't work reminded me of Nine's near the end of Rose.
And that made me laugh. :p
The only strong feeling I had against the Master, really, was the TARDIS abuse. (Strong being I was up on my feet war dancing at the screen whenever canibalised!TARDIS was mentioned.) Otherwise, it was an effort not to cheer for him...
Oh, and...didn't the Master make himself human, or did I have the volume down too low in TSoD?
Man, I feel bad for the Doctor. He needs a kitten. A Time Lord kitten, that never dies, just regenerates into a much cuter kitten than the one that came before.
Ginger kitten? Or would he just be jealous?

I thought he'd made some comment as well at one point, separate from that photo in "Rose"... But no matter - Nine and Ten meetup! :D
Yeah. I was wondering about that. But really:
1. Tinkerbell! "Clap your hands if you believe in fairies!"
2. You know that scene in SG-1 "Threads", with the glowy!Ancients...
Mwah. Yeah. You know, I *still* for the life of me can't figure out what happened there.

I've been shaking my head a lot at the character of Martha this series, a lot of times because they've given us really no insight into the character. And then they do this flash-forward, where she becomes practically this whole new character, and *again* they skip over the character-insight stuff. Le sigh.
Oh, and...didn't the Master make himself human, or did I have the volume down too low in TSoD?
Yeah, he'd been human in the episode before - Utopia.
Ginger kitten? Or would he just be jealous?
Ha! But really. Pocket kitten companion!!
no subject
Yep that was quite hilarious. I so wanted Captain Jack to go with the Doctor! It would have been so much fun. Well here's hoping for a few more cameos from Captain Jack!
Happy that the crush is over as well. After watching the scene a second time I think I like her "exit". I know she's coming back but I'm happy that she is not going to constantly be there crushing over the Doctor.
In terms of graphics the episode was great. I think I liked the episode to an extent but yeah there does seem to be something missing.
Maybe that's it. I didn't want to see the Doctor lonely but at least he wasn't as
heartbroken as in Doomsday and I think he understood that it was for the best.
Now... Titanic? Seriously? This should be interesting since Nine mentioned that he was traveling in an unsinkable boat and was clinging to an iceberg at one point. That and how did the ship manage to break a whole in the TARDIS?!?

Plus, undying companion that could have kept the Doctor from being lonely!!! *FLAILS*

I think she'll make a better former companion than companion.

*nods* And I've seen this reaction in him so many times in the classic series when companions decide to leave. He's definitely sad to see them go, but knows they've got their own lives to lead.

I *thought* that Nine had mentioned that. Do you remember when he said that? I really shouldn't get my hopes up, 'cause I really doubt CE would pop back over for an episode. (Dammit.)

Um...I watch the first season a lot.

Everyone wins!!! I also agree that when we see her again she'll be a lot better off and more of a companion. I think the only other companion goodbye I've seen was on Youtube... The one with Sarah Jane. Just because I was interested in how she was left behind. But from what I've read it definitely seemed like the way he would have said goodbye to previous companions.
Don't know if this has already been answered but back in The End of the World when he and Jabe, I believe, are looking for a power source to start the cooling system again (the technical stuff gets a bit fuzzy there for me)....
Anyway, while they're looking for it Nine mentioned that we was on a ship that was thought of as unsinkable and how later he was clinging to an iceberg.

As far as the whole telepathy thing, all I picked up was that the Doctor mentioned he'd had a year to integrate himself into the psychic network that the Master had created (to control the population), so somehow, all of the people thinking "Doctor" gave him...magic powers? I really don't understand the giving forgiveness bit, though.
But I just read your previous post, too, and after the Jack/Face of Boe bit, I need to remember all the times the Doctor talked to the Face of Boe! Huh, would not have called that.
Also, I'm glad of the end of the Martha!crush, but oh, DT's expression after she kissed him just about broke my heart. No one wants to come with him!! Oh, he is just so lonely.
Um, when did Nine mention being on the Titanic? *racks brain*
no subject
I think the Doctor thought everything could change. He changed after the Time War, and so maybe he thought the Master could as well. Unfortunately for the Doctor, they retconned that the Master isn't just "a bad guy," but mentally unbalanced. It was never going to work.

Yeah, I got that he integrated himself into the network, but not sure how the whole "I do believe in fairies" made him get his body back. I mean...really how?! Hoooooooow?
But I just read your previous post, too, and after the Jack/Face of Boe bit, I need to remember all the times the Doctor talked to the Face of Boe! Huh, would not have called that.
Well, there were just three times they met, and one we never saw them talking. The End of the World, New Earth and then in Gridlock.
Also, I'm glad of the end of the Martha!crush, but oh, DT's expression after she kissed him just about broke my heart. No one wants to come with him!! Oh, he is just so lonely.
He is. :( I'm really liking the Time Kitten thing. No dealing with unrequited love and lots of cuddling.
Um, when did Nine mention being on the Titanic? *racks brain*
I looked it up. It was back in The End of the World.
"I was on board another ship once. They said that was unsinkable... I ended up clinging to an iceberg, it wasn't half cold."
Oh man, that would be just so AWESOME if they got CE to do the Christmas episode. They probably haven't, but...COOL. *FLAILS*

He can just never be happy, can he?
Yeah, I got that he integrated himself into the network, but not sure how the whole "I do believe in fairies" made him get his body back. I mean...really how?! Hoooooooow?
Magic? Power of a name? Maybe everyone's thinking just gave power to the network, and the Doctor used that to...regenerate himself?
Well, there were just three times they met, and one we never saw them talking. The End of the World, New Earth and then in Gridlock.
Man, I clearly need to rewatch The End of the World because I seem to have forgotten most of what happened in there.
He is. :( I'm really liking the Time Kitten thing. No dealing with unrequited love and lots of cuddling.
Kitten!cuddling. That's just what the Doctor needs. When he picked up that kitten in...Gridlock? Oh, so precious.
Having the Master as his companion would have worked, too -- the Doctor wouldn't even have to worry about him withering and dying like those pesky humans. Part of me was concerned that "keeping the Master safe in the TARDIS" was evil code for "I'm going to feed you to the TARDIS," so I'm glad we didn't see the return of Ten's scary side there.
Oh man, that would be just so AWESOME if they got CE to do the Christmas episode. They probably haven't, but...COOL. *FLAILS*
So, they're not much for continuity on DW, I assume? ;)

Apparently NOT.
Part of me was concerned that "keeping the Master safe in the TARDIS" was evil code for "I'm going to feed you to the TARDIS," so I'm glad we didn't see the return of Ten's scary side there.
Ahahahahahahahaha! *CHOMPS* *falls over*
For a split second there I was envisioning this sort of lo-jack on the Master so he couldn't run away. And so he'd take out his wrath by putting *three* sugars in the Doctor's tea instead of two. Mwahahaha! Or...starching the hell out of his underpants so he'd be itchy. Or drawing a mustache on the Doctor's autographed poster of Rassilon. Wait...I think Rassilon might have had a mustache. REMOVING the mustache from the poster of Rassilon. Mwahahahaha!
Doctor: That's okay. I forgive you. Come here. *hugs*
Master: NO! DAMN YOU! I MADE YOUR SHORTS ITCHY!
Doctor: *cuddles*
Master: AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!
So, they're not much for continuity on DW, I assume? ;)
Oh, it's tradition on Who to have incarnations run into each other. Okay, maybe not *tradition* but they've done three (or is it four) episodes.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Five_Doctors
The best part about it is they always get so annoyed with themselves. :D
no subject
What a tragic life the Doctor leads! I recently saw "The Girl in the Fireplace," and Madame de Pompadour was saying what a lonely little boy he was. *pets*
Ahahahahahahahaha! *CHOMPS* *falls over*
I suppose in light of the Doctor's line about how he was now responsible for someone, it was possibly a bit rash to assume that he was going to...do bad things to the Master. :D Oh, he didn't want to hurt him, he only wanted a friend!!
Doctor: That's okay. I forgive you. Come here. *hugs*
Master: NO! DAMN YOU! I MADE YOUR SHORTS ITCHY!
Doctor: *cuddles*
Master: AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!
HAHAHAHAHA. His love exceeds even itchy shorts! He needs the cuddling!! (Okay, while it was very very sad to watch the Doctor trying to keep the Master from leaving him ALONE IN THE UNIVERSE AGAIN, I couldn't help but think of the slashiness with that hug there :D)
...Aww, this makes me sad that the Doctor won't get the Master as a companion. :( They would have driven each other crazy! It would have been great fun!
The best part about it is they always get so annoyed with themselves. :D
Hee. Now I really want to see CE on the Christmas special!

Poor, poor Doctor. He's pretty much hit bottom if he's trying to become BFFs with the Master.
I couldn't help but think of the slashiness with that hug there :D)
*snickers* You and half of fandom, I'm sure. :D

"Oh, but we can travel together, and I can look after you, and we will be best friends FOREVER! And then I will never be alone-- hey, wait, what are you doing? Stop dying!!"

Doctor: *cuddles*
You have no idea how much that made me giggle. OK, the fact that it's 2:20 am yet I'm too wrapped up in the finale to go to sleep until I see what my flist has to say about it isn't helping, but ... yeah, you = hysterically funny. *g*
(Oh, and the fact that your review of the ep said so many of the same things mine did ... can't help but love that!)

I've yet to read most of the reviews on my flist. Am a bit groggy this morning.

I think my solution is to just stop THINKING about it and look forward to next year. I'm oddly really, really excited for the Christmas special because... TITANIC IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TARDIS. *cracks up*
If they would manage to get CE to do one episode for a Nine–Ten meetup, I would LOVE THEM FOREVER.
OMG. I WANT THAT SO BADLY. IN FACT, I THINK I SHALL SPEND THE NEXT SIX MONTHS CRACK THEORIZING ABOUT IT.
In my head, Ten and Nine wouldn't get along at *all,* so it'd just be so funny. :D

Poor TARDIS! It just got fixed and then a frickin ship plows into it!

Oh, totally. They'd snark at each other something FIERCE. Which would be so completely awesome.

How'd the Doctor know there's be a launch & a countdown a year in advance? Did I miss something somewhere?
There were a bunch of others that were running through my head last night, but this is the only one I remember now :\
