S4 Companion

And the new S4 DW companion is...

Donna!

HA! I kid you not. Catherine Tate's coming back. :D

Back when The Runaway Bride aired, I wasn't wild about her character, just because she was *too* goofy for what I was ready for. But now - GIMME THE GOOFY, YOU ANGSTY CARDIFF NUTTERS!

Also, Donna can feel free to slap the Doctor again whenever he gets...weird.

ETA: OH THANK YOU, GOD! WE WON'T HAVE TO DO TARDIS 101 *AGAIN*! *FLAILS* I AM WITH JOY!!!

I'm starting to think that RTD KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING. Donna just wouldn't have worked right after season two. But now? We are so ready for her and Ten's wonky interactions.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-04 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
I'm still not ready to dismiss the theory of RTD and his giant mount of crack... *eyes*

But I think you're right. Donna works now where she just would not have been a good fit in S3.

DONNA!!!! (and her OTP *points to icon*).

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-04 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Donna would *totally* snog Jack. And I'm not quite sure if he's be pleased or horrified... :D

This is the best DW news I have heard in a loooooooong while. I am so psyched about it.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-04 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
I'm oddly pleased about it as well, just because of the comic relief. I'm desperate for comic relief right now.

Still in a bit of shock but I think it's definitely a good shock!!

Thanks for the info and can't wait to see Donna come back next series! She made the Runaway Bride fun to watch for a bit and she got the Doctor to talk about what he was going through.

I agree with previous comments that she'll fit better in Series 4! ^_^

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-04 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
I'm seeing wacky adventures in their future. I'm so ready for wacky adventures.

[identity profile] beck-liz.livejournal.com 2007-07-04 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Hey! A companion who already knows the TARDIS is bigger on the inside! Who already knows at least a little about Rose! Woot! *twirls you around*

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-04 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
HOORAY!!!

And as [livejournal.com profile] katesutton said, she's the next best thing to a granny with a large purse. :D

You know, I didn't even really like Donna that much in TRB, but this news has made me insanely happy for some reason. Less angst, more laughs, I'm hoping.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-04 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's *totally* my thinking as well at the moment. Bring on the light-hearted Who!

[identity profile] sundaydriver.livejournal.com 2007-07-04 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know why, but this news has made me ridiculously happy.

Thanks for that!

I would've been happy with someone different, maybe another male companion or a couple. But, having Donna travel with the Doctor works for me too. We do need a "slightly weird, but can hold her own against the Doctor" kind of companion and I think that Donna is perfect for that role.

I'm in a weird place at the moment with Dr. Who, what with being caught between watching the latter S3 episodes and in the middle of my marathon with the middle S2 episodes, (and, seriously? The emotional disconnect is huge there). So, having something like this to look forward to is nice. :)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-04 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
It would have been interesting to get someone just completely different. An alien for once even. Just because, like you said, that slightly weird but can hold her own. More than hold her own. :D

Oh man. The difference between S2 and S3 - like two different shows. S3 really did wear me down with the emo and angst. I just do not relate to it all.

[identity profile] makesometime.livejournal.com 2007-07-04 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
Hee, I haven't seen much reaction yet, granted, but I'm with joy too. Because it's so many kinds of awesome, especially after the Christmas Special.

And I stick my tongue out at people who don't agree.

Also, you know that she'll be kind of the anti-Rose. She'll enjoy the travelling, but her glee will be found from harming the Doctor somehow when he does something wrong :D

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-04 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
HA!!! I really *am* looking forward to the smacking around when the Doctor gets weird. Plus, you know, someone who was actually sympathetic about the whole Rose thing. Even if they never bring up Rose once in S4, Donna's already scored in my book by simply not bitching about her.

[identity profile] syokhan.livejournal.com 2007-07-04 08:10 am (UTC)(link)
No way! I've been wanting that ever since I watched TRB! *flails*

I wonder what will make her change her mind regarding the TARDIS life, though. Or what about... an unwilling companion! Yay!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-04 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I was thinking just the same thing - will something have changed to make her more okay with the Doctor's insane world? Or will she be hijacked again?

Can we skip the Christmas episode and go straight into S4?

I'm so happy; I didn't like Donna at first, but by the end of TRB I was yelling at her to go with him. Like she said, the Doctor needs someone to stop him, and Donna will do that. It'll be old skool goofy, non-romantic Who again! Best news ever.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-04 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! Goofy and non-romantic! \o/

And I watched bits of TRB again last night. Liked it way better now (and Donna way better now) than I did back when it aired. I was still wrecked quite a bit from Doomsday, and was *not* in the mood for goofy. But now I can say I'm just dying for goofy, and so it's all the more enjoyable.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-04 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Have to say I'm really looking forward to it now! :D

[identity profile] ashism.livejournal.com 2007-07-05 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
If you are optimistic about this, I will force myself to be optimistic about this. I couldn't get through the Christmas episode without waiting for 'bovvered?'. I am looking forward to the more comical side of DW coming back or evolving, if that's the way they'll go. I still can't decide whether or not I actually want Martha to come back as I only really warmed to her in the finale when she got over herself and found a pair. But then, we couldn't have had the fantastic Finale!Martha without the S3 Bleh!Marth, so...

Sorry, I'm rambling in your journal!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-05 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I am fairly optimistic about this, even though I didn't really care for Donna first time around. I watched a bit of TRB again the other night, and I think I just wasn't in the mood for Donna *then* - seemed funnier now. But that doesn't mean she couldn't get old fast. And I'm happy about finale!Martha making an appearance in S4. Bleh!Martha was driving me up the WALL prior to the finale. I really did try and give her a chance, but by Blink I was done.

[identity profile] cheapevilgirl.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
THis makes me very happy. I liked Donna from the start but I think your right. It wouldn't have worked after season two. We needed Martha as a filler.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I wasn't ready for her brand of goofy last year. I think I am now.
