So you can *read* fic too?

I don't want to alarm anyone, but I might be interested in reading fic soon. No, not NOW. I don't need recs or anything yet. *swats away* It's this sort of... I have this strange feeling I might possibly be interested in thinking about reading fic in the near future. Or maybe I ate too much at lunch.

The feeling might be directed towards multi-era fic with Rose - both ship and gen. 'Cause I think those are snifty. (Except the multi-era agenda!fic where the point is to show how Rose = crap. Those are not snifty but tiresome.) And then possibly hitting some of that sacrilegious D/R reunion fic. Mmmmmm...forbidden fic...

Well, the Nyssafic has indeed been jossed all to hell by U/LotTL, but so far I'm managing to Not Care. I'm going to trot out my non-manic Jack Davenport Master with an entirely different survival story anyway. ;-P

As soon as the P.I. and vampire are done arguing and dealing with Possessed Assistant Aftermath and generally hogging all the brainspace...

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-05 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, I'm realizing that *ALL* Doctor Who fic will eventually be jossed to hell. Doesn't matter if it's a fic where the Doctor plays chess with K-9 while discussing hamsters. IT WILL BE JOSSED.

[identity profile] ivydoor.livejournal.com 2007-07-05 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
*gasp* You? Read? FIC? Say it ain't so! Who are you and what have you done with Michelle?

Heh.

[identity profile] ivydoor.livejournal.com 2007-07-05 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
It's...it's just not right. It's a world gone mad. Cats & dogs sleeping together...

LOL

Seriously though, good luck. There's a *lot* of badfic out there now. I'm sure you only have to ask and people will throw the good stuff at ya though. I've actually been thinking about putting together a fic rec post.

[identity profile] earenwe.livejournal.com 2007-07-05 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Fic rec posts are the nectar of life. Erm. Can you tell I've been reading the Illiad lately? :D

It seems to be the opposite for me; I've had a hankering to write.

Yeah, I'm sure I'll need some recs when I get going again. Otherwise there will be the crying. And the posts of rage of "THE DOCTOR AND ROSE ARE NEVER ALLOWED TO DISCUSS ROSE'S PERIOD. EVER! SERIOUSLY!" Which will be accompanied by the crying.

Let me know when you do want a rec, because there was a very recent Jackie-POV "sacrilegious D/R reunion fic" which was very snifty indeed.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-05 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Interesting! Not that I'm saying I'm interested. *nods*

[identity profile] marble-rose.livejournal.com 2007-07-05 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I just read that today! The one by Wendy, right? Yep, snifty.

[identity profile] beck-liz.livejournal.com 2007-07-06 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yup! I really liked it.

BTW, friending you from the meme over at [livejournal.com profile] oh_she_knows

Just friended you back. ;)

[identity profile] earenwe.livejournal.com 2007-07-06 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, call me clueless, but I'm really loving that premise but I can't find the fic. Is it possible that you could link me?

[identity profile] beck-liz.livejournal.com 2007-07-06 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
It's by [livejournal.com profile] wendymr and it's here: Part 1 and Part 2. It's called "Five Times the Doctor Reduced Things to Science (and One Time He Didn’t)".

[identity profile] goldy-dollar.livejournal.com 2007-07-05 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh! I've been so traumatized by all the bad fic out there, I'm secretly excited that others might throw fic recs at you. :D

I've been thinking about making my own rec list, but I'm just SO picky, I have no idea if I'd even have anything to put on it.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-05 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Second person to mention all the badfic out there now. I'm getting concerned...

[identity profile] beck-liz.livejournal.com 2007-07-06 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
*pets* You'll be fine as long as you have native guides. However, you try to go anywhere alone and the maneating fanfic lions will get you. Sorry, that's just the way it is. ;-)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-06 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
You haven't seen any good multi-era fic in the last year, have you? (Anything spring 2006-ish I've seen already.)

NOT THAT I'M READING FIC.

Just stay away from Teaspoon and you'll be fine. That place scares me. o.0 I use it for archiving and not much else.

[identity profile] beck-liz.livejournal.com 2007-07-06 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
If you have recommendations and/or are reading things by an author you've read before, Teaspoon is fine, much like FF.net is fine for the same reason. But if you just go wandering around in there, clicking randomly? Oh, the pain.

Although honestly? I haven't been reading that much new fic lately myself. I've been too scared to try fanfic from people I don't recognize.

Awww! Just... only read fic from by or reced by people you trust! And don't, under any circumstances, read fics where words are spelled wrong in the heading. Also, most Ten/Rose fic, which is almost uniformly out of character and written by 13-year-olds. *wise nod of a traumatized shipper*

ooh if you want multi-era I know of some awesome ones, particularly involving Eight! In fact because of those stories I've grown quite fond of Eight. There's also one I know of that involved Six... and its very readable. In fact, just tell when you want recs and I can give you good ones!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-06 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Oooooh! Yeah! I'll definitely be raising my hand when I'm ready to go. Actually, multi-era fic is part of what made me want to watch the classic series. I needed to see these people. :D

[identity profile] grimorie.livejournal.com 2007-07-06 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
You really should there's been some wonderful stories out there, I mostly stick to the writers who've proven to be really good at writing stories and character. Since I'm interested in the more gen/action side of things it usually leads me to some long but fascinating stories. I might even say, epic.

One thing I like about Doctor Who fandom is that the writers tend to *finish* their stories which I like even more!
