HP IMAX?

Did anyone see the IMAX version of the Harry Potter movie? Is it worth it? Worth it to someone who's not *overly* into HP? I mean, can you actually tell a difference for the "3D" parts of it?

Never made it to the movie this past weekend due to parents and just being outright tired. I *can* go to an IMAX, but it's definitely out of the way. However, if the IMAX version is the bestest thing since this icon (as seen on [livejournal.com profile] jcd1013's journal), I might make the trek.

That icon is a thing of awesome.

Isn't it?? I'm tempted to snag, but I'm not sure if it's snaggable.

I heard that, for the most part, the 3D special effects weren't worth it and gave at least one person a headache. But having not seen it myself (in IMAX, I mean; I've seen the normal version 3 times already), I can't say for sure.

... and that icon is weird.

It's snaggable. I've had it for over four years, since I got my LJ. :) I think the person who made it is no longer on LJ, but I still continue to credit as I originally did.

*using icon just to make you jealous*

It is fabulous, isn't?

You can snag if you like. I don't know if the original maker is still here on LJ--I've used it for ages--but they certainly didn't mind then!

I heard that, for the most part, the 3D special effects weren't worth it and gave at least one person a headache.

I was kind of wondering about that. I wasn't interested when I thought the whole movie was in 3D - too much pukiness from my thinking. But only part might not be so bad? Or maybe not.

But having not seen it myself (in IMAX, I mean; I've seen the normal version 3 times already),

*PINCHES YOUR CHEEKS*

... and that icon is weird.

MINE!

Seeing it on IMAX would be awesome. Seeing it on IMAX and in 3D would just give me a migraine. I've seen 3D IMAX movies, and I really don't think that the 3D stuff adds much.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
WOO HOO!!!!!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I've not seen anything in 3D IMAX before, but just the concept sounds...headachey.

I still haven't seen the movie through the IMAX experience because I just haven't had the time really. But I think if it's out of your way to go to an IMAX you should probably just watch the regular one.

I really enjoyed the regular one and will use my re-admit tickets soon, hopefully. I mean I spend $30 dollars alone on the tickets ($15 each) and so I will use those re-admit tickets. ^_^

But yeah if it's out of the way and you're not "overly into HP" I suggest the regular one. :)

Oh and that icon is fantastic! Loved it!

[identity profile] pixiesio.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
*gigglesnorts @ icon* The 3D bit ('cause it was only about 20 minutes of the movie) was cool, but don't go too out of the way for it.

[identity profile] lifelongfling.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
The 3D wasn't bad, but it wasn't the best either. I think it was kind of distracting, especially since you have to watch for the green / red flashing glasses as cues when to put the glasses on / take them off.

I work at a theatre with an IMAX, so it's like right there (and free!), otherwise I probably wouldn't have seen it in IMAX. I definitely wouldn't say the IMAX version is the best thing since that icon, which does rock, btw, so don't go out of your way. Especially if you don't want to pay a lot of money for something that could make you sick / give you a headache if you've never experienced it before. I don't know how much it costs at the IMAX near you, but it's $12 at my theatre in Michigan and I can only imagine what it would be in California.

Hmm. I'll probably just do the regular version then. Just can't see myself driving all the way over to the IMAX theater then.

*uses icon*

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds like it wouldn't be the end of the world if I never experienced the 3D.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, that would be distracting to have to watch for the glasses icon.

I can totally see watching it if I worked at an IMAX theater! But thanks for the "okay, but don't go out of your way" review. That's exactly what I was hoping for. :)

I have no idea how much it costs around here - probably quite a bit more, yeah.

[identity profile] pixiesio.livejournal.com 2007-07-17 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Nope, it wouldn't.

[identity profile] lifelongfling.livejournal.com 2007-07-17 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Glad I could help!

[identity profile] measi.livejournal.com 2007-07-17 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Erich and I are definitely going to see it in IMAX - probably sometime late this week/early next. If you can wait that long, I'll give you the review. :)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-17 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
It might end up being that long. I can't imagine I'd see it before then. Maybe this weekend.

Our "local" (read: two hours away) IMAX is charging like $20, and I almost got dizzy just watching the regular one.

/pointless comment

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-17 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. Don't think I'd care to pay $20 just to see Harry Potter...

I think we're going on Friday to see it. I've heard that it's mostly the Kestral part and that it's pretty cool.

[identity profile] ashism.livejournal.com 2007-07-17 11:10 am (UTC)(link)
Nothing to do with HP at all, but I had no idea they had IMAXes (!?) in the US. We have one in our town at the National Media Museum but it's mostly seen as a kids' thing (re: lots of kids go there and I avoid at all costs).

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-17 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
*waffles* If it would be cool, then I'd be almost tempted - I generally like going to digital movie theaters already anyway, and so am a sucker for tech stuff. Although, not sure if I'd be $20-worth tempted...

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-17 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
They're not terribly common. We have had one in the Science Museum for years - and that one you'll get the nature movies. But there are a few in southern California that are regular movie IMAXes.

[identity profile] starbuck92.livejournal.com 2007-07-17 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd like to go see it at the IMAX in San Antonio, but it's a two-hour drive and I have no funds, LOL. I'd rather save my money to buy new clothes for school next month. :)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-07-17 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that seems a bit much just to watch it in 3D.
