Pthththt!
Okay, this is spreading around the flist now, and so I may as well throw my 2 cents in...
Complete Season 3 Doctor Who DVD cover
(Warning: S3 spoilers on the cover.)
Personally, I think it's a bit crappy. It's no secret that Martha wasn't my favorite companion by a long shot, but still. She was the companion during S3 and in every bloody episode! She *really* should be on the cover.
Arg! This is going to wind up being 1) Rose's fault, 2) BP's fault, 3) Rose fen's fault, 4) Doctor/Rose fen's fault, or 5) ALL OF THE ABOVE, isn't it? *hides*
(Not that I was planning on buying S3 DVDs anyway, no matter who's on the cover.)

You forgot to add that it's also the fact that ZOMG MARTHA?! She's BLACK! Or something... Geez. *shrugs* It's a pretty cover, what with Pretty Boys and all, but still. WHAT? Come on.

Also, I have a theory about RTD wanting to get his Doctor/Master summer ficathon off the ground (the one he started under a sekrit identity), and so threw them on the cover. ;)

I'm not a huge Martha fan either, but you're right - it sucks that she's not on the cover.
Having said that, I've seen it posted (somewhere) that the Ten/Master cover is a Limited Edition and Martha will be on the regular cover; obviously I can't say how truthful that is!

I just don't get it - she really should be there. And of course I'm thinking that this will only give people another excuse to haul out their D/R shipper whacking stick.

Hmm. That would make more sense.

I'm hoping this Limited Edition business has some truth in it.

Yeah :(
I've noticed that the Doctor/Rose (and Rose in general) love has disappeared from, say, the likes of Outpost Gallifrey.

Tell that to The Doctor. ;)

I have to say though, I'm not anti-Martha (just anti-URL, simpering Martha) but I'd get the pretty boys cover if I was buying the set!

I guess it could. But it does seem fairly "designed," from my link above. Like it's the real deal.

*snickers*
Oh, I actually do LOVE that shot of the Doctor and the Master. It's fun. :D But I'm having a "where the hell's the companion?!" moment.

as she is a companion.
i do like the pic of Ten/Master , and i think it would be great as a limited edition or on the inside cover :D
Martha and the Season 3 box-set cover
as she is a companion.
This (http://community.livejournal.com/lifeonmartha/316540.html) seems to suggest that she will be, if not on the Limited Edition one then the regular one.

I figure someone out there is doing the OT3 with the three of them.

I'm feeling like this too, I want to be annoyed for the Martha fans, but they're not making it easy. That post linked to in the comment above mine? Someone says the crazies are laughing at them. Having not seen any of this myself I could easily believe it to be them being over-sensitive, but I bet there are some people out there laughing and giving the rest of us a bad name.
The John Simm one will sell better in the end anyway, unfortunately. It's the one I'd buy if I cared.

I'm still waiting for someone to point to me where D/R shippers (aka, "the crazies") are pounding on Martha fans or Doctor/Martha fans in this "ship war." Heavy emphasis on the quotes, there.

I...have no idea. I honestly have no desire for this DVD series - maybe I'd go for the Master cover? I did like SoD.

I bought the most recent DVD, with the two John Smith episodes and Blink as I think Blink will be something I put on a lot to scare myself. I wish there were extras on the single DVDs but since you can get them on YouTube, it seems a bit silly to buy a box set of episodes I didn't like just for them!
no subject
I know the feeling. There's no compelling reason (other than completeness) for me to buy this box-set - I can get the episodes I actually want to watch again (the Human Nature/Family of Blood two-parter) and for the first time (Blink) on a vanilla DVD.
Anyone else not really care about the box-set?

I'm such a commentary/special features buff that at some point I'll certain want this set for all that even if episodes wise...I care a lot less. And yes, if given the choice I'd much rather have the Doctor-Master one rather than the Doctor-Martha one, but if there had been only one option I would have expected it to have Martha on it, just because that would track with expectations.

Like you I wasn't planning on purchasing The Series 3 box, ( I've joked to my sister that the only way I would buy it is if Rose and Ten ended up together at the end of the fourth series... or you know sometime in the future when Ten turns into Eleven or something)... anyway, if I were to purchase it I'd probably go with the Ten and Master cover.

She's gotta be, right?

Heh. I'm not sure I'd buy it even then.
I've been strategically avoiding who_daily to avoid reading about reactions from the other side. I wouldn't be surprised if they went for the #5) All of the above answer though
Shippers caused global warming.

Ha! I expect that it's actually John Simm's fault for being so popular. I can imagine that Marketing would want to capitalize on the fact that the LoM star was on Who. Sucks for Freema and Martha's fans, but it makes sense, business-wise.
It's certainly not the first time that a hugely popular reoccuring character has gotten a cover over the regulars (I remember being miffed because James Marsters got more face-time on the covers of S3 of Buffy than a couple of regulars and he was only in one episode the entire season).
no subject
Yeah, probably has a lot to do with that. (We just won't talk about the fact that I had no clue who John Simm was before Who.)

Oooh, bet fans were miffed at that one.

Actually, I’m starting to wonder how we (and the writers) define “companion”-hood. And whether it corresponds to anything in the actual story. But that’s probably reading too much into a marketing stunt.

The Master is a HUGE part of Doctor Who's history. Maybe not Simm's Master specifically, but if you go into the overall involvement of the two CHARACTERS in the show, actors totally aside? Yeah, the Master deserves it. If it had been the Daleks or the Cyberman, that's different, because they're a *group* of characters, and choosing just one generic Dalek/Cyberman over the companion would feel like a slight. But this is the Master, the Doctor's oldest friend AND worst nemesis, and he's a recognizeable individual. And if not the Master, then I'd have probably picked Jack over Martha just because at this point he too has more history with the show than she does. And if they were going to do a cover without the TARDIS? Then yeah, there darn well better be someone with almost as much history taking her place! I love Martha to pieces, but she doesn't qualify.
I'm sure it was a tough call, but IMO it was the right one. *shrug* But then, I would've been thrilled if the S2 DVDs had Sarah Jane on the cover and she was only in *one* episode. ;-)

I think my ideal box set for S3 would've had the Doctor, Martha, Jack *and* the Master, but if it had to be the Doctor and one other, I'm more than happy with the Master. :-)

It's like Opposite Day or something!
but also because I like the design, the juxtaposition of the two with their respective screwdrivers.
Dirty!! :D
