My car blew up!!

Okay, maybe not in the sense of "I've never seen a supernova blow up, but if it's anything like my old Chevy Nova, it'll light up the night sky!" But there was a bang! And then the car was loud! And...smelly. I'm *guessing* this means I probably shouldn't drive it.

I hate cars.

Oh, no! Were you on the freeway when it happened? Glad you made it through the explosion in one piece. I shall send you loads of happy car mojo.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I was on the road, and not too far from my place. It seemed to still run the same, but just LOUD.

Okay, I'm kinda liking the looks of the Honda Fit. They're WEE! And for some reason, seem to be bigger on the inside than the outside.

When I was looking at cars a while back I soooo wanted one of those! Though it's called a Jazz here, for no apparent reason...

They're very cute! And tiny! I like wee cars because they fit everywhere. It'd probably even fit next to the gas-guzzling SUV that takes up one and a half parking spaces.

[identity profile] beck-liz.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Eeep! Glad it didn't really blow up, but yeah, you should probably have that looked at.

I hate cars! Woe! *dramatic hand across the forehead*

(Still looking at the Honda Fit.)

[identity profile] beck-liz.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Woe. Cars are annoying. The Honda Fit is cute, but a little too wee for me. But if you like it, go for it. :-)

[identity profile] pixiesio.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Ack! Bad car! Doesn't it know it's not supposed to do things like that?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I know!! Stupid car.

[identity profile] fiona-conn.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
*Hugs* I'm just glad YOU'RE alright. The car doesn't matter -- it's just a car, and surely public transport works okay where you are? (And if not, perhaps your insurance broker will pay out for a new one or send you a courtesy car.) That you're alive and okay is far more important.

*Hugs you tightly again*

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm fine. Thank you. :)

Unfortunately, public transportation in San Diego isn't viable. Everything's so spread out, and I don't live anywhere near a bus stop. (Actually, most of California is like that.) I don't have car rental insurance, but I may just rent one for a bit if it comes to that.

[identity profile] fiona-conn.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I see.

*Hugs you tightly just once more*

[identity profile] principia-coh.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, that's never good. Glad you're okay though! Hopefully the repair bill won't be too dire.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope not either. I really should get a new car, but I hate thinking about monthly payments and so on.

[identity profile] jesidres.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I would suggest, in my expert opinion, not to drive that car. I wonder if it was either a gas build up, faulty spark plug or your fan belt. Icky any way.

I used to have a car, then I moved to Boston. And my sister then took my car to college as her car, and did the nasty in the back seat.

I don't really want it back now.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I've got no idea what it could be. I'm having someone look at it this afternoon.

And...not sure I'd want that car back either. :D

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, it probably shouldn't surprise me as the Check Engine light would pop on when it saw a cat. (I swear that's what was happening.)

[identity profile] aj.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
...so your car got terrified of cats and blew itself up? What, did you pass a lion exhibit or something?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
No lion exhibit, but maybe there were TWO cats!
ext_18985: (confused)

[identity profile] aj.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh. You're on cold meds, aren't you?

[identity profile] diavestra.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
No, do not drive it. Oy!

And you're right - even if it can be fixed, I'm not sure you want it back. In my experience, once something like that happens, you just never quite trust the car again. And out here? We have to trust our cars.

The Fit is totally cute and wee. So is the Toyota Yaris.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I've always had used cars, and so have had plenty of breakdowns before - I tend to run them into the ground before giving them up. :D So if it won't cost much to fix...

*Hugs*

Glad to hear to that you're okay. Cars are just a bunch of trouble but unfortunately living here, CA, requires that you have cars.

Hope that the bill isn't too much for repairing it and/or rental car. Renting a car can turn out to be so expensive.

And as much as I also hate the idea of monthly payments, it would probably be best to buy a new car.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. :) Yeah, not sure what I'm going to do yet. Hopefully the friend will have semi-good news when he comes over later today.

Hope it won't come to renting, but it might. Hmm. I wonder if I could rent a Fit. Sorta like an extended test drive.
