MegaSnake! It's toe-tappingly tragic!

  • Why I *love* [livejournal.com profile] splash_the_cat: She will not only watch without fail whatever crap genius movie SciFi decides to produce, she will Tivo it with joy in her heart. If the movie has some sort of reptile in the title, all the better. Double points if it has a Stargate actor in it. You know, if there were ever a movie staring Bruce Campbell and Michael Shanks called Coralsnake 2: Revenge of Son of Coralsnake, I'm thinking we'd never hear from her again as she'd immediately start a monastic cult around said movie. *SMOOCHES JULIE*

  • Was a hermit today. Extreme hermiting going on. And I owe a couple of people some drabbles. :D

  • I fear I've been tainted by Rome. A thought in watching the first ep of Robin Hood: "Hmm. You know what would make this better? Sex!"

So far this hasn't grabbed me. There are some things that bugged me about it, like the cheesy camera work (slow-mo, kung-fu-theater, triple-takes, etc.), and a minor thing of this woman that oddly enough had hair and makeup that made her look like an escapee from the 1980s. It's all a bit...comic book, for lack of a better description. I think I really was expecting a more Rome-ish show and kept wishing that Richard Armitage was playing Robin. Eh, I'll probably give it an episode or two more, but the first episode was kind of a meh for me.

Ah, but will she gleefully watch a SciFi "film" that casts the Chairman from Iron Chef America as one of its leads?

    [identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Probably multiple times. And buy the DVD. :D

LOL. I didn't like the first episode of "Robin Hood" either, but then after a few more I started going: "Okay, why do I LIKE this? It's the most bombastic over-the-top cheesiest thing ever produce. OMG NEXT EPISODE IS FINISHED DOWNLOADING. *GRABS*"

But to be honest, if you asked me to tell you about ANYTHING that happened in that series, I really don't think I could. :D

    [identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm. Maybe it will end up grabbing me. I've got the first two DVDs at home right now from Netflix. I should know by then if I want to see the rest or not.

I was like...not expecting the cheesy! I totally had a different show pictured in my mind than this. :D

See, and clearly I am a giant nerd, because when I was watching the first ep of The Tudors, I was thinking, "You know what would make this better? More history!"

    I am a DORK.

    [identity profile] principia-coh.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
I know what you mean. It's one thing to spice up what could otherwise be really dry historical pieces - it's another thing entirely to make a show that's set in a historical period but has content like the Ren Faire crashed into a porn set.

Yeah, Rome? Awesome. Shows like The Tudors and Robin Hood? Not so much. Although it was kind of freaky watching an episode of Robin Hood and realizing one of the characters was SonofMine with a beard.

    Think I'm finding that out.

    It's a small actor world. :D

    [identity profile] kammgirl.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Interesting useless trivia. The actor who plays Much is the Second Doctor's grandson IRL and starred in a movie with Billie right before she played Rose. Connections everywhere. He was also in Hex. And the actor who plays Robin will be in her next project about Belle de Jour.

I like Robin Hood but as the season went on it seemed to drag so much with the same plots over and over. Which is why I think Robin Hood works better as a movie.

    [identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
It really *is* a small actor world. :D

Something tells me I'm going to need to switch off my brain to like this show...

    [identity profile] aristaea.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
I love Robin Hood, but mostly because the Sheriff is flamboyantly gay, and I have to watch just to see what outrageous scheme he will think of next like sending out an army of decorators to wallpaper Sherwood forest.

Not a Serious Historical Show, and the morality play aspects are a bit heavy-handed, but that doesn't really matter because it's a show about how the Sheriff wants to shag Robin but is constantly thwarted by that tart, Marian. I'm afraid maybe my brain has been melted by RTD so that I just treat all television as crack now.

Okay, I think the show just became watchable. :D

Two. Hours. That was *two* hours I'll never get back.

    OMG, the utter *badness*.

I never want to hear another word about The Librarian movies. Even Bob Newhart's chest was not that horrific.

    [identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
Well, did you watch it sober? That might have been your problem.

And I didn't actually watch MegaSnake, but COME ON! Bob Newhart's chest is BURNED INTO MY MIND.

My mother has the same fascination with bad scifi. She won't watch good scifi, mind you. There was some movie on SciFi at one point that she called me, laughing so hard I thought something was seriously wrong, and got me to watch for a bit. I have no idea what it was called but there was a giant spider that got blown up, and this chick got covered with spider guts. She was wearing a white t-shirt. Mom and I said it was the worst wet t-shirt contest anyway.

Yep, it's insomnia time, things always seem funnier.

    [identity profile] marble-rose.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 11:15 am (UTC)(link)
My dad's the same way. He watches the cheesy Sci Fi channel movies religiously. Yet he won't watch Doctor Who because he says he just can't take it seriously...

*snorts* I do have a fascination with really bad sci-fi sometimes. There will always be that Mystery Science Theater 3000 girl in me. :D

    [identity profile] fiona-conn.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 10:34 am (UTC)(link)
Thing is, Robin Hood isn't MEANT to be serious. It takes over the 7pm slot a few months after Doctor Who ends. It's pantomime stuff meant for all the family. =D So, if you can, try to just suspend your (dis)belief and let yourself enjoy it. ^_^

I know I was impressed within minutes by Robin knowing the law and applying it. *Grin*

    [identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
See, I think that was a lot of my problem. I really never paid attention to what kind of show it was. Never knew that it was supposed to be more kid-ish and goofy. I had myself all psyched up for this more quasi-historical drama. :D

    [identity profile] noblealice.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 11:44 am (UTC)(link)
I'm going to continue the trend and say that there will be MORE eyerolling, but it gets better! They lose the triple takes and kung fu! Marian is really very pretty! And by the end I was so invested in the story that I literally stormed out of the room at one point in an episode to demand a hug from my roommate because it was just too sad. Of course, I also consider Snakes on a Plane to be great cinema, so my standards aren't high. (And I adore hugs, I'm probably a hug-whore...but not as much as the Doctor and Rose.)

    [identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, if they lose the horrible camera work, that will help IMMENSELY. That was a lot of my eye rolling right there. :D
