Looking at my mst3k tag** made me think about the plushie Dalek that NEVER MATERIALIZED.

WHY? Why have they denied me my special TV-watching plush buddy?? Plushie!Dalek would make an *excellent* TV watcher. It would!

Maybe I should make one. I know nothing about sewing, but...I could possibly stitch together a sort of elongated roundish blob, flat on the bottom, and tie dingleballs to it? Undoubtedly it would come out a masterpiece. Oh! And I shall name it Dalek PlotHole.

ETA: Oh, right. Apparently I was planning on naming it Arthur. (Good name for a Dalek.) Maybe Dalek "Arthur" PlotHole? Plot "Arthur" Hole?

** All roads lead to Who.

That's so sad! You should definitely make one. And post pictures! And plans!

Not a plushie, but there was a massive, taller-than-me dalek at a booth at Dragon*Con. (They also had mobile R2 units.) Spotting the dalek caused me to bounce and squee more than I really ought to have, especially considering I was on a very over-worked escallator at the time. I wish I'd gotten a picture of it, though! It was amazing!

That's so sad!

Supposedly it was going to be released in July. It was on the site! And then it disappeared before July! ARG!

You should definitely make one. And post pictures! And plans!

Oooooh yeah.

Cool!!

Undoubtedly, there are websites that exist with Plushie!Dalek instructions. UNDOUBTEDLY. I mean, there are like three different Jayne-hat knitting patterns. THIS CANNOT BE HARD!

Also, THANK YOU FOR MST3K + DW. YOU WIN. :DDDDD!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-09-12 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
There SHOULD BE!!

And isn't that MST3K/DW thing great? YAY!

Many people have knit or crocheted their own Dalek plushies!

Many people kind of scare me. Sometimes.

...but I think "Extermaknit!" is kind of the most awesome subject line ever.

EXTERMAKNIT!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-09-12 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, yeah! I've seen those crocheted and knitted Daleks! *SQUISHES*

Sadly, if I ever tried *that* it would turn out something like this:

OMG, LOOK AT THE DALEK I MADE! EEEEEEEEE!

At least you know your limitations! And maybe you can find a Who fan to hire to knit a Dalek for you?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-09-12 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Knitting's good, but I really really really want a plushie! I'm thinking about a foot-and-a-half high...

Or maybe I can hire a Who fan to knit one for me. :D

[identity profile] threerings.livejournal.com 2007-09-12 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I want to make one of those so bad, but I'm afraid my knitting skills aren't up to it.

Ditto! Though I want to knit one for my mom, rather than for myself.

[identity profile] ginamak.livejournal.com 2007-09-12 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
MST3K and Doctor Who FTW!

*ahem*

Sorry.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-09-12 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Push the button, Frank!

[identity profile] ginamak.livejournal.com 2007-09-12 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Eleven years later and I still</i? haven't recovered from seeing Frank in spandex at ConventioConExpoFestARama. *shudder*

[identity profile] ginamak.livejournal.com 2007-09-12 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Also? I cannot close an HTML tag before hiting "post."

*facepalm*

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-09-12 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
*SNORTS*

(And I'm instantly pictureing spandex *AND* the "I'm a virgin!" t-shirt.)

[identity profile] ginamak.livejournal.com 2007-09-12 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
If only there had been a shirt. No, it was a black spandex unitard. He did an interpretive dance while Mike sang "Let me be Frank about Frank."

The horror. THE HORROR.

O.M.G.

[identity profile] dettiot.livejournal.com 2007-09-12 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Now I want to make a plushie!Dalek. Not just for me, mind you, but for everyone like you who suffers from a lack of plushie!Daleks in their lives.

[ponders]

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-09-12 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
It would be doing the world a service!

[identity profile] goldy-dollar.livejournal.com 2007-09-12 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Completely random: I'm thinking about buying two goldfish and naming the second one "Gallifrey!"

Because you should always name things after a planet that was blown up by the main character of your favourite show. *NODS*

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-09-12 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
BWAH!!!

Well, someday, after it has lived an extremely long fishy life, you can reenact the Doctor pushing the button as you flush Gallifrey. And then you can angst about it, trying to tell people that you're now the last of your kind. We'll call these your "pre-institution days."

[identity profile] goldy-dollar.livejournal.com 2007-09-12 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)

HA!!!

And you WOULD know about the "pre-institution days," wouldn't you? *runs away*

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-09-12 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. Yes, I do.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-09-12 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, what are you calling the first one?

[identity profile] goldy-dollar.livejournal.com 2007-09-12 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Boubou," obviously. I am not sure how you missed that. :D What ELSE would you name a goldfish?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-09-12 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's right!

Although I'm a wee bit sad you didn't go for the obvious of "the Doctor" and "Rose." Because I could have used random posts on my flist of things like:

OMFFG!! I THINK ROSE ATE THE DOCTOR!!

[identity profile] goldy-dollar.livejournal.com 2007-09-12 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh! I'm almost considering going with "Skaro" and "Gallifrey," just because that amuses me. :D

Given my fragile emotional state, Rose eating the Doctor would probably send me into some sort of hysterical breakdown. You wouldn't want that for me. would you?! I'd probably end up spamming with random Doomsday caps or something!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-09-12 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)

Skaro would proceed to take over the tank while Gallifrey would stick to the fish castle, preferring to not get involved...

Nooooooo. We do NOT need any of that. No one needs any of that.

All this talk about Dalek plushies makes me want to knit one, and all the patterns suck. None of them are felted! All the stuffing would fall out after cuddling because the stitches would relax... And the yarn is the wrong colour. And they use knitted bobbles instead of proper bumps, and bobbles look more like the unfortunate result of a serious skin condition than yarn ever should.

And it wouldn't be very hard to do bumps, either, they'd just have to be knitted separately and then grafted on, which has the advantage of separating the main body without having to leave awkward gaps with live stitches for grafting later. But if you stuffed the bumps, then felted, would that make the stuffing go wrong? And I can't think how you'd do the eyestalk and arms, i-cord, yes, but I think it'd need wire, which wouldn't be very plush, but would be very cool...

Sing it, sister!

Wire would definitely not be good for the cuddle version of the Dalek. Not that Daleks should be cuddled. No.

[identity profile] aristaea.livejournal.com 2007-09-12 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Not that Daleks should be cuddled. No.

And I'm definitely not considering adapting the rocker doll patterns from SNB Nation to make my own Doctor and Master plushies. Not at all.

Awwwwwww!

I wish I could knit, too. My cousin can, but if I asked her to knit a Dalek she would have absolutely no idea what I was talking about. :D

On the other hand, I am commenting purely based on how adorable DT looks in your icon. He looks like's pouting and....*fangirly sigh*

According to the website, they expect them at their warehouse Sept 22nd. 8 inches tall. Blue, black or red.

And yes I'm an unapologetic lurker. Sorry. (Your posts amuse me so!)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-09-12 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! THOSE ARE THEM!! I didn't know they were only 8" but I'll take it anyway. And they TALK! O_O

*waves*

[identity profile] caffey.livejournal.com 2007-09-13 08:03 am (UTC)(link)
You know, Michelle, you have the unique talent to lose me on about 99% of your posts yet make me laugh at the same time anyway. :)

How do you do that? *scratches head*

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-09-13 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It's all subliminal messages. ;)

[identity profile] caffey.livejournal.com 2007-09-13 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
That would explain why I'm beginning to like Dr. Who without ever having watched the show. ;)

[identity profile] caffey.livejournal.com 2007-09-14 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. This will quite possibly result in another ship. Or addiction. Or both. If people complain, I will blame you.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-09-14 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
WOO HOO!!

FYI - I've got two filters going on my journal. One's a "crazy meta" filter where I attempt deep thinky thoughts about DW in general, and one's a "Doctor/Rose squee" filter, where I just add people who are into that pairing. And then squee at them.

If you ever get to that point and/or pairing and want in, just let me know.

[identity profile] caffey.livejournal.com 2007-09-17 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
Add me to the crazy meta filter whenever you're ready, but the D/R filter is not (yet) for me, I'm afraid. I will have a heard enough time catching on, as it is, without squeeing about a ship I've never seen. :D

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-09-17 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Added. :D If you want to look at any past nuttiness...
