Hi, I'm Michelle, and I have a Tim Gunn crush...
I'm thinking of constructing a Tim Gunn shrine, possibly out of fabric swatches. I caught a repeat of his Guide to Style last night, and while I'm not ever really all that excited about fashion makeover shows, it was *great* to see Tim talk about the clothes. (Liked his co-host too. *looks up* Veronica Webb.) This is in contrast to the hosts of What Not To Wear, where I usually, I don't know, wind up feeling like throttling someone.
This probably won't be on my "I must watch or I will die" list, but I'm sure I'll watch if I happen to have the TV on and see that it's on. While I'm constructing my Tim shrine, of course.
ETA: Because I don't feel like making another post...

I love how completely random they get, never mind that I have ZERO artistic skills, which blows away most of my top ten. 21!! WOO!!
- What Not To Wear
Stacy: Oh my God! Take that off! You look like an elephant slept with a rhinoceros!
Clinton: *high fives Stacy* You go, girl!
Me: I hate you all. A whole hell of a lot.
Guide to Style
Tim: No, that's not working for you. It's too short and so the lines are hitting you wrong.
Veronica: Yes, I totally agree.
Me: *is briefly interested in lines and such*

Hmmm. I think I might need another Tim icon.

On the subject of this Tim fellow, though -- I rather like shows where they pair up a male and female presenter. They do it on "Location Location Location...", and it works pretty well. Besides -- men can be pretty good about fashion. Women slag each other off about it. >.>;;

Ugh. How disappointing.

The cool thing about Tim is that he's actually a department chair at the Parsons School for Design in New York. So he knows a thing or two about clothes, and he just oozes knowledge. It's really fun to watch.

On a happier note, I too caught an ep of TGGtS and was really quite pleased with it, as far as fashion advice shows go. Tickets to the Gunn show, please?

Why IS that? I have a friend that adores that show as well and has tried to get me to watch it with her when we're together. Arg!

I would bet that the people who enjoy watching it would probably feel much different if they were actually the focus of it. *shudder*
Even Tim Gunn's show was a bit much for me in spots; I can't even imagine liking WNTW.

The best show I've seen as far as dealing well with the people getting the advice has been "How Do I Look." They bring in family/friends to help, so they feel a little less steam-rolled by designers who aren't familiar with what they're comfortable with, and only a few things are tossed (and often if it's something with sentimental value, the person ends up getting it back later, framed).
The one thing I like about HDIL and TGGtS is that there's a lot more effort put into understanding why they wear what they wear, instead of just telling them they look godawful. So many other shows are just about showing off and shouting about what they think is teh ugly.

Saw that in a commercial for the show and giggled madly. Tim's so cute. *pinches his cheek*
I actually don't mind the guys from WNTW because, a lot of the time, they have to be that harsh to the people who come on the show. Subtlety is clearly lost on some of them. Like, oh, the 40-something year old woman who did not understand AT ALL what was wrong with her dressing like a hooker every day. Ack.

Isn't he? :D

YIKES.
They still irk the hell out of me.
Heh. Didn't we watch some of this in Boston? I swear we did. (Since we were forced to watch TV during the whole DVD player saga.) And I remember Jojo looking at the TV with a scowl and "Stacy and Clinton are morons." :D
