See? Nancy Drew is COOL! EYEBALLS! Yeah, they're glass, but still! Plus there's a graveyard treasure hunt! (Heh. I'm starting to think the creators are a bit twisted.)

DW Fandom: Companions leave. Get over it already.

And I wish I had the time to spit that back at the Marthanites every single time they bitch about their girl leaving.

Eyeballs? What, did they co-brand with HP Lovecraft? Nancy Drew and the The Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young?

Was it future Martha fans saying it when Rose left? I was thinking of certain old-school types. ('cause I've got some actual groovy Martha fans on my flist, who I'd NEVER dream of saying "companions leave" to them when S3 ended.)

Eyeballs? What, did they co-brand with HP Lovecraft? Nancy Drew and the The Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young?

Close. :D

Was it future Martha fans saying it when Rose left? I was thinking of certain old-school types.

That particular wank trope was indeed started by the 'Ew, girls have cooties!' brand of older Who fans, but has since spread to be used by just about anyone who doesn't like Rose, including the more militant members of Martha's fanbase (aka Marthanites) who used to crow it all the time prior to them finding out that oops, their girl was leaving too. And then they got very quiet all of a sudden, not that they'd ever dream of apologizing or admitting to being hypocrites.

Far from every Martha fan is a Marthanite, just like not every Old Schooler is a 12-year-old boy with mommy issues trapped inside a 45-year-old man's body.

I still need to make me that Old Schoolers for Doctor/Rose banner/icon set.

Ah, okay. I get confused with what labels are supposed to go with who. I mean, I *guess* I'm considered a Rosefa(e)n since I like her and all. And since I keep liking her in spite of meta pointing out how she is wrong, I'm...militant? I wonder where I fall in the Threat Assessment Level.

FANDOM IS CONFUSING!

Oh, I'm sure I'd be slapped with the label 'Rosefen' by people who are inclined to try to separate the fandom off into camps.

I mean, I'm all for the tents and bonfires, but couldn't we all just go toast some marshmallows and sing a few songs? Maybe play Pin the Sucker on the Dalek?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Awwwww! That'd be an adorable game.

(Makes me think of that wee toy Dalek in Torchwood Babiez. Awwwwww.)

Oh, oh oh oh oh! Is there a Threat Level Chart for Who fandom? Because if not, there needs to be one. YES, THIS MUST BE DONE.

I had a moment where I went: "Cute? OMG! DID HER DOG DIE OR SOMETHING AND NOW SHE IS POSTING PICTURES OF IT?.... nah." And then I clicked the cut and the world did not stop making sense. YAY!

I can't find all the eyeballs in the new Nancy Drew game. I clearly fail at life.

Clearly. I mean, your priorities are definitely in order. Step 1). Don't die! Step 2). Don't die because there are eyeballs to collect!

Is there any other cute? IS THERE? Although my friend's beagle puppy decided to nap on my lap last week. That probably ranked right up there.

Clearly. I mean, your priorities are definitely in order. Step 1). Don't die! Step 2). Don't die because there are eyeballs to collect!

Exactly.

Who fandom amuses me.
I think we should over power the fandom with teh cutness of doom or something.
this the 2nd fandom that has a lot of wank but I still love the fandom though. I just play in my little side of the sandbox.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
The key really is to try and stick to your own corners. A lot of people can play nice, but there are *always* a few that ruin it all. And so the easiest is to just avoid them altogether.

But you think we could take over *something* with the power of the cute!

Yes I do!!!!! :)

I can't find all the eyeballs in the new Nancy Drew game. I clearly fail at life.

I GET IT. That is not odd in Nancy Drew. Compared to using a romance novelist as your go-to for Old West history and having to sneak eggs away from crazy chickens, eyeballs are totally normal. Well, okay, slightly normal. Ish.

I haven't started the newest Nancy Drew (so it did come in on Wednesday?). I'm two games behind. But hey, you were right! The new mechanics on Wolf Creek are great, especially the...hrm "universal game launcher" button? That's really convenient, to have just one button instead of, like, six. Also, the easy access of save/load files. I think the tendency in the newer games to have timing mechanisms annoys me, though, just because I like to wander around places aimlessly. I keep running out of time to do things. Also, it's frustrating, because in Wolf Creek Nancy will be all "HEY THERE, I DON'T NEED TO GO TO THE KITCHEN TO MAKE LUNCH OH WOOPS! I JUST GOT BITCHED OUT FOR SHIRKING MY COOKING." Grrr! I hate when games are less smart than me.

I...think I'm going to make LJ posts about Nancy Drew gaming, but I can't decide between replaying "Secret of the Old Clock" and just starting with "Danger by Design" which is what I'm playing now. (OMG, a designer who uses size twelves?! Clearly, we have entered the realm of fiction, no parody or copyright infringement intended, and any resemblance to events real or imagined is purely coincidental.)

(PS: How sad is it when Nancy can't call the Hardy boys? SO SAD. They are much more useful than Ned.)

COME BACK, CUTE!

YES PLEASE. I mean... they were just so....CUTE. And happy. And dorky. And I'm so with you on having that urge to just throw the "companions leave" thing back at some people. But that's mean, and I will just settle for being allowed to MISS ROSE LOTS. Woe. I need to write fanfiction to fill the gaps.

*tries to start writing fic, then gets distracted by video games and TV*

IT IS!

It did!!

I really don't care for the games that have a clock running on them either. Usually I end up doing something and then making Nancy sleep for 11 hours just so I can do the next thing. Fortunately, the newest Skull game isn't on a clock.

BWAH!! I hated how you couldn't go out at night. And I wanted to raid the kid's snow fort!

I...think I'm going to make LJ posts about Nancy Drew gaming, but I can't decide between replaying "Secret of the Old Clock" and just starting with "Danger by Design" which is what I'm playing now. I know!

Well, I don't care WHICH you post about, as much as the fact that you do post about it...

And the funny thing is, I can't imagine it going away just because the Doctor regenerates or anything, even if he's weird-looking. Sorry, fandom. You're SOL when it comes to me shipping D/R just because he's gone off to 11.

*tries to start writing fic, then gets distracted by video games and TV*

Tell me about it.

[identity profile] solielle.livejournal.com 2007-10-12 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
It did!!

Buwhaha! Now I'm going to be all smug. My "check on Wednesday" policy has only failed me twice, and both times were with a specific company, and that company can afford to be all, "Yeeeah, no, we're gonna ship our game next week. We were rolling in our piles of money from the last game, and forgot to check the time. Sorry!"

Fortunately, the newest Skull game isn't on a clock.

\o/

It's actually been manageable in the last two games, it's just the Wolf Creek game where it's a pain. "I have to clean rooms by noon!" "Whoops! I can't clean rooms without a laundry bag!" "Oh, I can't go in this room while it's locked!" "I need to cook lunch by one!" "Oh, I don't need to go to the kitchen before preparing food!" "Ooh, I Just lost half the day because someone else prepared lunch!" "Oh, man, if I go outside now I'll freeze to death!" ARGH, TEDIUM. Having assigned tasks is fine, but that really crosses the edge into ridiculous busy-work.

And I wanted to raid the kid's snow fort!

I'm sort of amused that when you play the snowball fight, Nancy nails the kid in the face with a snowball every time. Damn, Nancy that's harsh! Nothing above the neck! It's the quintessential rule of snowball fights (and dodge ball)!

And the funny thing is, I can't imagine it going away just because the Doctor regenerates or anything, even if he's weird-looking. Sorry, fandom. You're SOL when it comes to me shipping D/R just because he's gone off to 11.

Seriously. I doubt I'd stop shipping D/R just because he regenerated into someone I don't find attractive. I've said elsewhere (probably poorly) that I'd enjoy it if Eleven wasn't conventionally attractive because as much as I enjoy the touchy-feely closeness of 10/Rose, I still think their relationship goes beyond that physicality and having a Doctor that Rose wasn't physically attracted to, but still loved, would be really fun to write.

(Please note that I'm talking specifically of Ten here not because I don't think Chris Eccleston is attractive, but because I think the Doctor and Rose were still working through their relationship during Season One. Rose may very well have found 9 attractive, but by episode three she'd sectioned him off as 900-year-old alien and it took until near the end of the series for her to consider him for a romantic relationship. And then how the Doctor feels for all this time is a huge different matter entirely.) And that's enough about that, for now.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-10-12 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
ARGH, TEDIUM. Having assigned tasks is fine, but that really crosses the edge into ridiculous busy-work.

That was excessive. It would have been better if they'd only had one requirement a day or something. Or Nancy filled in only once in a while or something.

I would find that really interesting as well.

Oh! And in the newest Skull game, you get to be Bess part of the time, which is pretty funny when Bess is interested in everything *but* mystery sluthing.

Nancy: Please go over and snoop around.

Bess: Uh...no.

You gotta love it.

COME BACK, CUTE!

Come back? O_o I was unaware that the cuteness ever left.

*hums merrily along completely in denial of what occurs right after that scene*

Awww. Hope you feel better and that nasty chest cold goes away soon. Tea is good. Though I try not to drink it too much when I sick or else I'll detest tea completely.

*sends DT over to help with the chest cold* I mean seriously he must have a cure seeing as he's so brilliant. ;D Btw, that pic is cute!!
