Oooooooh. Apparently they opened up a road today that has been closed since Monday. You just have to be on the lookout for any downed power lines.

So...rush hour traffic or possible death.

*twiddles thumbs*

I am SO taking possible death.

ETA: Well that was depressing. The main road is completely open, but the side roads are still being manned by Guard troops who are checking I.D. There were miles upon miles of scorched earth - just completely black and in some cases, not even the sticks of shrubs left. Power poles burned and melted into the ground, bricks of former houses. One bright spot - at the very end there was a large homemade sign saying thank you to the fire crews with a stash of water bottles and a couple of coolers (presumably of food) left below it.

Aaaand a fire truck up the road from it with its lights on and the hose out. WHY? WHHHHHY?? *RUNS OFF TO THE NEWS*

Rain would be fantastic. Unfortunately, it's not in the forecast for the near future.

So does this mean you've gone ahead and returned home? I may have missed a post, but the last thing I saw, you were wary of getting kicked back out with ten minutes' notice at o-dark-early in the morning so you were continuing to reside elsewhere.

Clearly this situation either calls for a large quantity of tea and scones, or Jack Daniels and chili dogs. Aye caramba.

Yeah, I'm finally back. There's nothing like home sweet home. And Oreos and coffee are doing it for me right now.

*hugs* Ohman. That is really sad. :( I didn't even know power poles could do that ... but I'm glad there was one bright spot in all the trauma.

I've never seen a power pole like that either. It was very freaky looking.

I am so sorry this is happening. God Bless the firefighters and rescue crews.

They've been totally awesome. And people have come in from around the country. Even some planes from Canada.

Possible death is always better than rush hour traffic...There was something on the news the other day comparing the fires to the hurricanes in our area a few years ago. In some ways it is a hard comparison to make, but in others not so much, mostly in understanding the human factor...I'm just really glad to know that you're ok.

I've heard that comparison as well, and it just doesn't really seem the same for some reason. But thanks. :)
