So I had to drive to a conference with a coworker today. We've worked together for something like 3 or 4 years now? Suddenly out of the blue and with NO prompting by me...
Her: So, you ever watch Torchwood?

Me: ... *wonders if there's some other Torchwood out there*

Her: It's this sci-fi show. I really love it.

Me: ... *still wonders if there's some other Torchwood out there* You know, I tried an episode of it, but couldn't get into it. But I do like Doctor Who.

Her: Oh yeah, I like that one too.

    Me: ...!!

Her: But not as much as Torchwood.

Me: *thinks that no one's perfect*
So we talked a little bit about Torchwood and the fact that JB is very hot. I informed her of the DW S4 spoiler which she was pleased about.

WEIRD!! I seriously NEVER would have pegged her as a sci-fi fan.

MUHA! I think I'd have the same reaction if someone told me they loved Torchwood. "REALLY? Like liked it liked it? You didn't just... you know, like it? You LIKED it?" Totally. Understand.

AWWWWWWW!

MWAH.

AWWWWWWW!

I know! Hee!

[identity profile] goldy-dollar.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Hee. You know, it occurs to me I've gotten into shouting matches in RL about DW before. I don't know why! I'm usually just so calm and laid back! Not at all high-strung! *twitch*

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously?? :D I really doubt I ever could.

(Unless it was with [livejournal.com profile] elismor and then it'd just be sport.)

[identity profile] goldy-dollar.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously?? :D I really doubt I ever could.

I'm PRETTY sure I had a really good reason!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps a fight about his tie? :D

[identity profile] goldy-dollar.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I might have been at a party, and there might have been alcohol, and it MIGHT have been after debating something political, and I might have been told I couldn't have an opinion on David Tennant's abilities as an actor because I was female, so I am *pretty* sure I had a good reason to start yelling.

But the tie would be a perfectly understandable issue as well!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
BWAHAHAHAHA! You GO, girl!!

ETA: Laughing not at the fact that you *shouldn't* have kicked whoever's ass said that, but I'm picturing this whole drunken David Tennant-related yelling match...

[identity profile] goldy-dollar.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
Hee. I think the way I flailed my arms up and down was *really* terrifying.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Well, when in an argument, it's a good plan to make yourself look as large as possible... :D

[identity profile] goldy-dollar.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
but I'm picturing this whole drunken David Tennant-related yelling match...

Muha! I vaguely remember several other people trying to jump into the conversation and it just NOT happening.

And then there was the time I discussed Dalek mating rituals over dinner.

HA!

And then there was the time I discussed Dalek mating rituals over dinner.

A very valid topic of discussion.

A very valid topic of discussion.

Yeah! Earth-shattering realizations could have come about!

[identity profile] beck-liz.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I might have been told I couldn't have an opinion on David Tennant's abilities as an actor because I was female, so I am *pretty* sure I had a good reason to start yelling.

Was the person saying this like, extremely drunk or high? Because I can't figure out this insane troll logic otherwise. Not capable of having an opinion because you're female?? WTF.

[identity profile] javabreeze.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Awesome. Small world when it comes to Who and it's related entities. Man, I need some real life people to talk about DW and Torchwood with.

Me: ... *wonders if there's some other Torchwood out there*

Bwahahaha.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
Apparently it is a small world! Wow!

[identity profile] ivydoor.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's always fun, isn't it?!

You know what cracks me up? My neighbor is very much a... country gal. She constantly picks on me for being a geek and calls me "the damn Brit" all the time, but her FAVORITE picking point is DW. (Don't worry, I get her back all the time for CSI & Smallville)

THEN I find out she's not only WATCHING the show, but BUYING the box sets.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
BWAHAHAHA! A closet geek!! Awwwww.

[identity profile] swankkat.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, a friend of mine LOVES Torchwood. She's repeatedly told me that she thinks the quality of writing on it is FAR better than Season Two of Doctor Who. In fact, she hated S2 so much due to the writing, she stopped watching it after like the third or fourth episode in. *boggles*

...I don't understand it personally, but at least we can both still giggle about JB's nice tush.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't it funny how everyone sees completely different things? Like, flop that and you'd have me where I simply couldn't watch Torchwood after trying it, and so stopped.

[identity profile] earenwe.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
I love when things like that happen! It sort of blows my mind in a good way.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this was just sooooo unexpected!

[identity profile] greenpear.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
It's strange the different reactions you get from people you know. Some try to form a bond and others just look at you like you're some kind of weirdo.

That's why we hang around here...

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, exactly. I've tried getting some RL people into DW. Some it's worked, others not so much.

[identity profile] solielle.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
Doctor Who fans lurk behind every corner! The owner of a drug store in my town collects the old Doctor Who novels, and I have declared a Death Match over any copies that come into our used book store. (he doesn't know about the Death Match, so I think my chances are pretty good about winning!) Oh, and also my parents' dentist is a big fan. Craziness. (And then there is totally the incident where I blogged about a theater performance, and the PR guy who worked for the theater found it and left me a comment because he also watched Doctor Who. That one was actually embarrassing.)

Yes. Weird.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
It's always better when one side doesn't know about the death match. *nods*

WOW!

[identity profile] larielromeniel.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
I think that's cool! I have tried to introduce a few folks at work to DW and TW, but get the real sense that everyone is just tolerating the boss and her weird obsessions. **grin**

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
MWAH! I'm fairly amused at the thought of having minions to subject DW to...

[identity profile] larielromeniel.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Minions...hmmm...I like that. My minions....

Heh heh heh heh...

[identity profile] suzvoy.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 10:20 am (UTC)(link)
Another one pops out of the closet! :D

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
And she seemed so normal! ;)

[identity profile] katesutton.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
People ALWAYS look at me like that after they find out I watch Doctor Who and Firefly and Stargate and all that. I don't know what it is, something about the way I do my hair? *thinks deeply* Although the one that really boggled my boss is that I've watched Dexter. I must put up a good facade of normality. Or something.

[identity profile] diavestra.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
We love Torchwood! The kidlet gets quite cranky if we try to send him to bed before it's over...

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
You let him watch all that sex??

[identity profile] diavestra.livejournal.com 2007-11-29 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
He didn't get to watch the sex episode. I told him that one was "too grown-up" for him. He was pissed.
