Ever have a fic that refuses to end? goldy_dollar and I have managed to get over 3,200 words on a fic so far, where nothing much happens other than Nine and Rose being cute. AND IT WON'T END.

It's...really pointless. Current plan of attack involves one or more of the following:

1. Posting it in small chunks so as to distract people from the long and pointless.
   
   
2. Whining at manticoran nonstop until she figures out how to fix it.
   
   
3. Throwing a basket of kittens at anyone who reads it.

Cute can certainly be an end unto itself; I don't think either Deglazing or A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing are especially plotastic, and people seem to like those.

Unless it's meant to be part of a larger fic, versus a standalone. In that case you'll need at least some connecting material.

Mine have a bad habit of doing that as well; I'd certainly not intended for either of the aforementioned fics to end up over 6,000 words. I didn't even mean for One Mother of a Christmas to be near 1,000, let alone over it.

I'm usually the other way - I start on the low end, and realize I need to add a LOT more. Readers should just *know* what's in my head, right? ;)

Hmph. I've actually printed the thing out in the hopes that taking it away from the computer to go over it will help keep me from getting too distracted (I'm easily distracted, even when I'm reading something awesome).

Yes, am having that problem now. I actually have perpetual ending-itis - it seems no matter what I write, the ending is just pure torture. These things don't want to ... stop! I don't have kittens so that option is out. The other two won't work (I'm already REAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLY late getting this last chapter posted too) and my betas probably will kill me if I beg them for more help.

It's a very sad thing. Let me know if you find a workable cure.
