Adam
Really liked the premise of this one: we are our memories. They're our reality, so that's what's real. But there were a few things I was confused about, like the ending. And the box. I did not get the box. Did the sand have something to do with Jack? But I thought it was Adam's memory box. And why exactly would all of Jack's memories of his father disappear by taking the short-term amnesia pill? And if you think about it, how could Adam have sprung into being in the first place if he survived through people's memories? He would need to start somewhere, but how could he do so in the first place?
Why do you hate my brain, Torchwood? WHY?
I'm not quite sure what to think about Jack's childhood memories. I mean, beyond how real they were. It was a huge traumatic event in his life, but it was just a snapshot really, and it's not really meshing with Jack's character to me yet. Eh, maybe it'll come.
(Also, please stop giving emo scenes to Jack, because... Yeah. kthxbye.)

- Hello, Martha! Okay, I admit it. I went into this really wanting to love Martha, so I went in with a bias, but... WOO! Torchwood!Martha > DW!Martha! \o/ Set her free from that character arc millstone of mopey pining, and... Okay, I REALLY liked her in this. :D And I liked Jack when he was with Martha. That's the most life I've seen in him on Torchwood yet!
- There were a couple of things about her I had some trouble with, though. Like exactly how much time has passed since "The Last of the Time Lords?" The show's fuzzy timelines are giving me a headache. It'd have to be a couple of years, wouldn't it? I mean, Martha needed to go through residency yet. And then it seemed sorta like she'd been doing the UNIT thing for a little bit, at least. Enough to get a boyfriend who'd saved her life. (So, it's probably NOT hot!pediatrician from LotTL, but most likely someone from UNIT.)
Also, the conversations with everyone about Jack's sex life seemed a bit...silly. But it's Torchwood, I suppose. So of course you have completely random conversations about someone else's sex life with people you just met. You're so cheesetastic, Torchwood. And doing an incredible cheat from actually showing JB's ass, dammit! - The Doctor got Martha her UNIT job. Awwwwww. :) (*wonders if that will get the Doctor out of the sex he apparently owes her*) And of course the Doctor would quickly put her with UNIT as he'd want to keep her the hell away from Torchwood. Awwwww!
- INTERESTING new information about time travelers! In Doomsday we saw that time travelers have that kind of glowy energy around them, or whatever it was. But this said that people were actually genetically altered from it, and have extraordinary immune systems because of it. VERY interesting. No wonder Sarah Jane looked so damn good at 58 still! :D
- Oh, Owen. Why do I have the feeling that he's not dead? Even though Martha will apparently autopsy him in the next episode? This is sci-fi. He's not dead.
And now I'm off to watch Project Runway.

Well. Between dropping Jack off and him meeting up with his team it was apparently a couple of months. I think Martha was only gone for a linear week. As to her doctor status, she was doing her residency in Smith and Jones, I thought. She had mentioned, when the Doctor said he was the Doctor, 'me too, if I pass my exams'; so I think she was finishing her residency and going for the boards. That's what the medical ones are called, right? MCATS are to get into med school, and you have to pass the boards to get your PhD...?

Agreed. Ask
And the box. I did not get the box. Did the sand have something to do with Jack? But I thought it was Adam's memory box.
Just before Jack took the pill, Adam said it was the last happy memory he had, the right one Jack had of that last day with his dad. Thus the sand, from that day on the beach. Or so I think. But I might be wrong because, again, my brain is BROKEN, and my never be fixed (until Rose comes back, as she is the bringer of life, and will restore my with reunion goodness and not emo!Doctor.)
Torchwood!Martha > DW!Martha!
Totally agreed. I was actually LOOKING FORWARD to seeing her. And she was kind of awesome. Go Torchwood!Martha. But if they killed Owen to give her a spot.... I don't think I know how to deal with that.
Enough to get a boyfriend who'd saved her life. (So, it's probably NOT hot!pediatrician from LotTL, but most likely someone from UNIT.)
When was there a mention of him saving her life? I think it is hot!pediatrician doctor, who isn't really a pediatrician. If you watch that scene when she calls him at the end of episode, he's working in emergency/urgent care. Is trufax.
Also, the conversations with everyone about Jack's sex life seemed a bit...silly. But it's Torchwood, I suppose.
Another line from
(*wonders if that will get the Doctor out of the sex he apparently owes her*)
THE DOCTOR OWES SEX TO NO ONE BUT ROSE. D/R OTP FTW NSS!!!
time travelers have that kind of glowy energy
VOID STUFF!!! I love void stuff.
And Owen cannot be dead. I'm sorry but you just don't kill Owen. Seriously. I know he's a jerk, but he was my jerk and you just don't kill my jerk.
Damn... long comment. Sorry. But it's your fault for making such a respondable comment.

Adam said he'd been in the Void.
The gaps aren't sealed so tight after all, are they?

Martha/Martha's Future Husband FTW. (That's what I named him when I couldn't remember his name at some point when watching LOTTL, so it has kinda stuck.)

Actually, I thought that was rift energy, or whatever, and it was all over the Daleks and Cybermen because they'd travelled through the rift, and not as much over the Doctor, Rose, etc. because they had been there a longer time ago. I didn't think it was related to time travel.
But this said that people were actually genetically altered from it,
We knew something of the like from Dalek in "season 1" when the Dalek was able to repair itself after being touched by someone with "time traveller DNA". The obvious implication being being that time-traveller DNA is genetically different in some way.
and have extraordinary immune systems because of it.
Which is the new bit. Explains why the Doctor never gets sick I suppose. :-)

I took the sand coming out of the box as Jack's memory of his father that Adam had stolen. It was the only thing left in the box since all the others had taken the memory pills. And since it spilled out, Jack will never get it back.
And of course the Doctor would quickly put her with UNIT as he'd want to keep her the hell away from Torchwood. Awwwww!
It's the Doctrot's Hate/Love relationship with Torchwood. Torchwood!Hate / Jack!Love.
Actually like Martha better in this than DW. But I'll be pissed if they had to kill Owen to do it. He better not be dead.
But I love Frank Miller's comment to an over zealous fan at a comic convention, "Listen kid - Comic Book", and remember that nobody is really dead in these kinds of stories...

Okay, I think there is where I got confused. I thought Adam said it was his (as in Adam's) memory.
Totally agreed. I was actually LOOKING FORWARD to seeing her. And she was kind of awesome. Go Torchwood!Martha. But if they killed Owen to give her a spot.... I don't think I know how to deal with that.
I don't think Martha's permanent. It's too bad that she and Owen are both doctors, since I could handle seeing her becoming permanent.
When was there a mention of him saving her life?
It was when Owen was helping her out at the end. After she said she had a boyfriend, he said something like, "but I bet he hasn't saved your life." Martha: "Actually, he has."
I think it is hot!pediatrician doctor, who isn't really a pediatrician. If you watch that scene when she calls him at the end of episode, he's working in emergency/urgent care. Is trufax.
Oh, huh.
And Owen cannot be dead. I'm sorry but you just don't kill Owen. Seriously. I know he's a jerk, but he was my jerk and you just don't kill my jerk.
I don't buy it. I really don't.

I too gather most of my knowledge of becoming a doctor from Scrubs!
I've only watched S&J once, but I thought the guy they were reporting to was kinda like a Dr. Kelso. If so, it could have been a once a week update round report thing.

Apparently not! \o/

Oh! I'd completely forgotten about that! That could easily be what she was referring to!
Martha/Martha's Future Husband FTW. (That's what I named him when I couldn't remember his name at some point when watching LOTTL, so it has kinda stuck.)
It's Tom. :D (Although I only know this because I started writing yet another reunionfic where everyone was at Martha's engagement party. HEH.)

Ooo. I like this theory. I didn't really have a solid theory on this one, but I like yours, so I may subscribe.

And when will James Marsters be back - to haunt him about Grey...

Is that what that was? *has a fuzzy recollection of that*
We knew something of the like from Dalek in "season 1" when the Dalek was able to repair itself after being touched by someone with "time traveller DNA". The obvious implication being being that time-traveller DNA is genetically different in some way.
Oh, good point! And the whole mega-immune system does really go along with the whole thing with the Dalek being able to repair itself. Holy crap, something actually ties together in Who!
Which is the new bit. Explains why the Doctor never gets sick I suppose. :-)
*wonders if time-traveling Time Lords are genetically altered from regular Time Lords*
Hmm. Maybe that was part of the whole vortex ritual - they wanted the kiddies to absorb that kind of radiation. So even if they didn't wind up doing the time travel thing, they've had their booster shot.
no subject
I think now I'm seeing that. For some reason I thought that Adam had said the box had Adam's memory. It was confusing.
Actually like Martha better in this than DW.
Yup. She's a lot more mellow. And nice. What kept turning me off to her in DW was her attitude. (Well, that and that whole unrequited love storyline.) (And the fact that they refused to develop her character...)
But I'll be pissed if they had to kill Owen to do it. He better not be dead.
I don't believe it.

I thought that was how they were all sucked back into the rift - because they were surrounded by rift "stuff".
Holy crap, something actually ties together in Who!
We think it 'mazing!
Maybe that was part of the whole vortex ritual - they wanted the kiddies to absorb that kind of radiation.
Maybe. The question is though, do you just have to be exposed once to get this, or does the longer you travel make the effect that much greater? So does someone like the Doctor who has been running for hundreds of years (given that Tom Baker's Doctor was only 500 some years old) have a supercalafragalisticexpeealadocious immune system, compared to someone like Martha who is only super immune?
project runway
Re: project runway
But there just doesn't seem to be as much talent there as in past years - at least to my untrained eyes. Seems like no one's even close to Christian as far as talent goes. You may want to smack him around, but he he's GOOD.
Re: project runway
Last year I listened to Tim Gunn's podcasts. He doesn't seem to be doing them this year, which is ashame because they were really a hoot.
Okay, and like Project Runway is my secret little show. That and TopChef.

Reset reminded me WAY too much of a Neil Gaimen story called "Reboot" (you can find it in the book, Smoke & Mirrors - which is worth picking up and reading anyway ;) )
