It's almost a 3-day weekend! Woo! I really need an actual vacation though. I was sort of eying Monterey since I'd like to see the fish. (Monterey fish, not San Diego fish.) I only went to the aquarium once when I was a kid, but it's a pretty vivid memory. (Same reason I'd like to go to Yellowstone someday - I can still remember it from when I was 5.)

Looking at the aquarium's site, I discovered that there was going to be an Alton Brown event in May! OOOOOOH. But it's already sold out. Boooo. It probably would have been good too - about sustainable seafood. (Go and look at Nemo and then eat him!)

Anyway, nothing on the agenda for this weekend except to maybe do my taxes. And maybe get a new printer so I can print them. *YAWN*

Monterey is AWESOME. There is whale watching! And the most awesome bead shop EVAR is in Cannery Row right next to the aquarium. The woman who owns it has it decorated like an enchanted forest, the ceiling is covered in greenery, there are "trees" growing up from behind the counters, there are flowers and crystals everywhere, it looks so awesome.

Ooooooooooooh! That sounds very cool! I'll definitely have to look at it if I get up there!

Ooooh, Monterey Bay Aquarium is always awesome. I went again last year, and it was just as awesome as I remembered (it really does leave vivid childhood memories :P). Seeing the sunfish alone is worth the trip, that thing is AMAZING. It's the weirdest thing you'll ever see in your life, and it's enormous - I think it was 6 feet across. :D

Sunfish are very cool! I think they have one at the small La Jolla aquarium down here - but that aquarium is *nothing* compared to the Monterey Bay one.

I love watching fish.

I was there once, a long time ago. It was pretty nifty, as I recall. Pity the Alton Brown event is already sold out; I bet that would've been cool.

I kinda have a thing for aquariums. I loved the one in Boston. And the one in Denver is also cool.

Very! It'd have been worth it, just to hear him talk, no matter the subject.

HAHA! That's what I was thinking ... "I dunno if an aquarium's the best place to talk about eating fish, Alton ..." :D

(Same reason I'd like to go to Yellowstone someday - I can still remember it from when I was 5.)

Ooh, me too! Except I was in my pre-teens when I went. It's always been one of those places I've wanted to go again, now that I'm old enough to appreciate things more. Hmm, possible WC location?

"I've eaten that, and that, and that, but not that...hmm."

Oooh, yeah!

I really want to see Alton in person some day. But I did get tickets to a lecture by Anthony Bourdain 31 MAR. Now THAT ought to be interesting...

That WOULD be interesting!

:D

I remember seeing an icon a while back - a picture of some sushi with "Found Nemo."

Oh now that's just awful!

ooh, if you do make it up here do let me know! I'd love a chance to hang out with you, and it's been ages since I've been to the aquariam....the sad thing is it's only 2 hours away and I haven't been to Monterey in almost 2 years, yet I've been to LA probably twice a month.....LOL

We went down towards your neck of the woods but are home now. Had the opportunity to stay in the same room where a woman got felt up by a ghost in December but I chose a different room instead. And there were no ghostly visitations although I had very strange dreams, involving being black and in a Vietnamish kind of place. Weird.

And we bought a big bag of avacadoes at a roadside stand on the way home for $5!
