DVD Commentaries
I watched a TON of S6 and some S5 Stargate DVD commentaries this weekend. *smooches
emry again*
I mainly stuck to the Peter DeLuise commentaries this weekend but did catch a few others. I remember laughing...but for the life of me what really sticks out is PdL saying something about the alpha-maleness of Jack & the Russian in The Tomb and them "peeing in a circle" which probably isn't exactly what he meant to say, but was so odd that I was laughing.
I love PdL's commentaries! He does point out very cool things and gives credit where credit is due, but he's also very self-mocking which makes it a whole lot of fun. Memento commentary (paraphrase) on the extras carrying props around: "On Prometheus, you really can't go anywhere without a metal briefcase. Because if you met up with someone who had *their* metal briefcase and you didn't, you couldn't fight back." *snicker* If he isn't a MST3K fan, he should be.
Thought it was really interesting that on the S6 commentaries, they talked about how they were able to do cut-away act breaks now. They could now skip and imply some action without cutting to a different scene because of the commercial breaks that they didn't have on Showtime. Well, *I* thought it was interesting.
The director's thingies were a *lot* of fun - the behind-the-scenes clips on several of the episodes. *g* AT all excited on the Other Guys that she got to smooch someone that didn't die; RDA & MS just hanging out on Abyss; RDA screwing up lines on Shadowplay; CJ flexing his muscles in The Cure and CN standing nearby with a "what the hell kind of show did I get myself into?" look on his face.
The commentaries and the behind-the-scenes left me with two overall impressions: 1) I'm even *more* impressed with the quality of the 22 episodes that they're able to put out every year. Some episodes' effects are on the level of major motion pictures - and they take years to complete. 2) Everyone has *way* too much fun on that show. *g*
ETA - did I catch this right? Not unlike the edict from on high that put an end to the snacking Jonas after about 5 eps in S6 - we won't see Siler with his big wrench anymore?? WAH!

Maybe that's where I got it from.
but I agree! It's not mockage, it'll only make us adore them more!
Yes! The very little they showed of RDA messing up his lines did not make me think he was an idiot - just made me think he was adorable. ;)

It's possible... I think it was from some older behind the scenes thing, which I've now completely forgotten where I found it, of course.

Exactly! There's nothing more charming than people willing to laugh at themselves, because it's as you said, one doesn't laugh at them then, one laughs with them.

Yeah (getting off on a tangent) - and that's what I love about the PdL commentaries. And even the fact that they're often self-mocking within the show itself. One of the commentaries talked about the humor of the show. Could you imagine it without the humor? Dry as a bone.

And I agree (again *G*) the humor gives the show the warmth that keep people coming back for more. *sigh* Ah, Stargate, shall I count the ways we love thee?

*sigh* After watching all those I wanted to see the rest of S7 NOW. And S8 - want to see that NOW! *g*

I'm sorta savoring them myself. Watched Revisions and Lifeboat yesterday... *happy sigh*

I think that's interesting, too. I am really looking forward to seeing those DVDs some day.

Unfortunately that's exactly what it has to do with, which means that we won't see S6 on DVD until late 2004 or early 2005. *sigh*

And I'm sure the wrench is happy in its retirement, it has certainly earned it.

True. Heh. He did one of the commentaries - I think for The Warrior. Maybe that's where they said Siler's wrench was MIA.
And I'm sure the wrench is happy in its retirement, it has certainly earned it.
Yeah - put out to pasture.

I remember lots of Siler in S4 (with his wrench -- heh). And some Siler in S5 ... But Siler in S6? S7? *sob* Siler is clearly off somewhere consoling his big wrench. ;)

*cough*

(I don't think we're capable of keeping any threads clean, Michelle. At least not where Siler's concerned. *g*)

But there was no wrench in sight during those S7 moments. Damn. :(
