DW: Frontios

Frontios (Five, Tegan, Turlough)
  • I admit, I decided which classic Who to watch next based on the name. It looks like "Fritos." You know, if you squint. But instead of being about corn chips, it starts out with a group of miners digging. Miners, mining and mines in general are a recurring theme in Who. [insert 20-minute ramble about digging a plot hole...and corn chips]

  • [strange whipping-like noises from behind a closed door]
    Turlough: The hell?
Tegan: Eh, the Doctor gets like this.
    Me: O_O

They never said what he was doing either. Right then.

  • This is pretty wild – they drift too far into the future and find the last surviving band of humans... Huh. [waits for Five to start glowing] Okay, but he's talking about the colony being new and just starting out. End of the Earth, not the universe then. But the Doctor does talk about them being beyond his knowledge of events. Guess he branched out a bit in the next few hundred years.

  • And the Doctor wanders off, determined to pair up his coat rack. Yup. Someone's been asexual a liiiiitle too long.

  • The TARDIS got blowed up? Bwuh?

  • I've been watching too much Torchwood. Turlough's reminding me of Owen. Except, you know, without the sex.

  • BWAH!! And your monster for this episode will be...GIANT PILLBUGS. I love this show.

Well, more the love-child of a pillbug and a manatee. Of the zipper variety.

  • You know, these survivors spend most the time with their heads up their asses. The second they're not under strict mindless military control anymore, they instantly go Lord of the Flies. At the moment, I'm cheering for the pillbug-manatees.

  • Meanwhile Tegan's wised up to the limited set budget, and the Doctor has to spend time convincing her that not all the cavern corridors are the same. (While probably mentally writing shipfic about his socks.)

  • HEH. The pillbug is monologueing. :D

Pillbug: And I'm sure as a Time Lord you're impressed by our center of operations...
Doctor: [mentally composes dialog for his sock shipfic] "Oh...she knows." Say, that's good.

  • Hmm. Bits of the TARDIS are now underground. Okay then.

  • Wait. How did defeating the burrowing pillbugs stop the meteorite showers? Hmm. "Well, that's that." I guess that's all the explanation I'm ever going to get, isn't it? :D

I have no coherent comments but I am CRACKING UP at the image of the Doctor writing sock shipfic.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-03-16 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
And God forbid he ever lose one in the dryer! Weeks of angst, woe and Snow Patrol right there.

A++ WOULD READ AGAIN.

This needs fic.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

That is all.

Ou know what's really bad... I saw the word "Fritos" at first as well. It wasn't until after I clicked the cut that I did a face palm... yes I clicked because I thought it was a post about the Doctor and Fritos. ::iz da lamez::

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-03-16 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad I'm not the only one! :D

It's kind of like the title Timelash. Took me forever to realize it wasn't Timeslash. :D

[identity profile] irishlullaby.livejournal.com 2008-03-16 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
YOu know... that didn't help pull my brain out of the gutter. ;)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-03-16 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I was a bit disappointed it was Timelash...

I still have to remind myself of that. Heck, I only clicked on this entry because I thought "There's an old who story about corn chips?"

>How did defeating the burrowing pillbugs stop the meteorite showers? Hmm.
I know this one! It's because the pillbugs were *causing* the meteor showers by magnetizing them in (like they use on Tegan and the Doctor, because, magic magnetism).

>And the Doctor wanders off, determined to pair up his coat rack. Yup. Someone's been asexual a liiiiitle too long.

HEEE.
You forgot to mention how the coatrack plays its own very important role! Even an inanimate companion gets its own plotline eventually. Maybe the writers of this episode are suffering from the same thing as the Doctor...

Oh, is that what was happening? That totally went right by me.

It did get its own plotline! And actually went off to a new home and everything! :D

Freud would have a field day, of course.

Again, Freud. :P

OMG I will probably never escape Freudian theory or Oedipal complexes.

BWAH!! I'm thinking Freud would fall over dead at this:

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!

Um. Um. Hug the phallus! O_o

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-03-16 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
The Doctor is an EXCELLENT communicator. (And Ten's not the only one you have to worry about where his mouth has been.)

[identity profile] intrikate88.livejournal.com 2008-03-16 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, dear. Maybe that's what regeneration is for- it's like mouthwash for all the phallus-hugging sort of super-syphdiseases the Doctor picks up. Perhaps it's a good thing we didn't see Rose snogging the Doctor all the time! Imagine all the nasty things she could have gotten! She will definitely have to have all her shots before shacking up with him. Which will, of course, get a few questions of "You want a vaccine to make you immune to WHAT?" from a few nurses on a few planets...

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-03-16 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Bwahahahaha!!

This is pretty wild – they drift too far into the future and find the last surviving band of humans...

...were they being chased by cannibals?

I think I may have to watch this episode arc.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-03-16 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, the pillbugs didn't really eat the humans...or each other. But I was sort of expecting Jack to turn up...

Just remember, the Doctor is asexual. Totally, 100% asexual. Ish.

Pillbug: And I’m sure as a Time Lord you’re impressed by our center of operations...
Doctor: [mentally composes dialog for his sock shipfic] “Oh… she knows.” Say, that’s good.

*snorts* Y’know, I’d kind of like to read this fic. Think of the drama when one of the socks turns pink in the wash, and the other sock wants it to change back. ;)

Someone should tell him that.

*snorts* Y’know, I’d kind of like to read this fic. Think of the drama when one of the socks turns pink in the wash, and the other sock wants it to change back. ;)

AWWWWWWWW!

Sock 1: Can you change back?

Sock 2: No. Do you want me to?

Sock 1: NEVER! I LOVE YOU FOREVER AND EVER!!

Doctor: [smushes the socks together for a sock makeout]

Tegan: OMFG. Right. I'm gonna go now.

[identity profile] greenpear.livejournal.com 2008-03-17 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
As much as I love new Who nothing can beat an insane episode of Classic Who.

The inane plots - the tangent sub-plots, the (not-so) snappy dialogue, the set design, and of... the monster.

It definitely has it all.

Oh yeah, and coatracks that are companions...

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-03-17 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Coat racks make AWESOME companions. :D

Via what medium did you watch this episode?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-02-16 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
I think I might have watched this particular one on youtube.

(Anonymous) 2009-02-16 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
First: that was really fast.

Second: Ah. That makes sense. I was trying to put it in the netflix queue, but it was only on VHS, which made me sad. I'll have to check youtube, but I'm pretty confident it's not there any more.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-02-16 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
First: that was really fast.

I'm lurking around right now. :D

I think they've been cracking down on youtube copies of old episodes, but at the same time it's impossible to see it anywhere else. It's very frustrating.
