Got this link from beck_liz. This is SO true. The article talks about DW, BSG, Farscape, SGA, Torchwood, SJA and a few others. I not only fall into a couple of these "shows," I've got just about everyone she mentions on the flist. :-*

We're not watching the same show...but that's okay.

For the record, I've already got an attitude like this - I'm fine with whatever "show" you're watching - as long as you don't try and get me to see the error of my ways. I definitely won't try to get you to see the error of your ways.

What basically sums me up right now: (subject to change at any given moment)

Yeah, no kidding. I thought this quote from the article was right on the money—“Some are watching the ‘Rose Tyler Show,’ and are vexed at the continued absence of the lead.” I occasionally tune in to the Doctor/Rose Show, but that’s really just a stopgap till my show gets back from hiatus.

And that's pretty different from my take. But The Rose Tyler Show people and The Doctor and Rose Show people tend to hang out together. (And several are watching both shows.)

Sure, I mean, even though I prefer the Gwen Cooper's Awesome Show, even I can't wait to see Jack's ass, you know ^^ (and the Doctor And Rose Show, although that's more prone to end in tears than the Jack's ass one...) I just wish more people were civilised about other people's preferences.

I also wish fandom wouldn't freak the hell out every time someone makes a pairing/character/item-specific community. Yes, people have different interests, and sometimes like to talk about those different interests and those only. Just because there's a specific place to discuss Bessie that doesn't allow Whomobile discussion, does NOT automatically mean these people are Whomobile haters. Lord, fandom.

Excuse my butting in the convo... I must be weird or something b/c I have never had as much trouble in HP fandom as DW. I'm mostly in the H/Hr and D/Hr shipper circles, and I've always gotten along just fine with everyone, including non-H/Hr fans. I was pretty well-liked by the Fandom Wank crowd, who thought of me as one of the "sane" H/Hr shippers. They'd say things like, "I wish more H/Hr shippers were like you."

So yeah, I'm boggling a lot at how I suddenly became one of the Crazy D/R Trifecta (it seems like miladyhawke, 040bod, and myself get name-dropped the most on FW, which I find terribly amusing, seeing as I haven't participated in this fandom in over a year, outside my flist). I think I once got accused by a certain prominent DW fan who will remain nameless of being a JF spy or something. I had some hxc lulz over that one (in a twist of hilarious irony, they sure love using my icons over there). Admittedly for a while I started poking them, but that was after my rep had already been shot to hell so might as well enjoy the notoriety, ya know?

So yeah, HP was actually my "peaceful and quiet" fandom in comparison to DW. :p You know, recounting this story, it's no wonder I fled to the OC fandom, and then the Gossip Girl fandom. You know something's wrong when you go to teen soap fandoms for sanity and peace. :/

I'm not sure what it is about this fandom that brings out the hardcore junior high behavior. There was some of that back in SG-1 fandom, but mainly those kind of antics were a bit more rare (and mild) and would pretty much get an eyebrow raise.

I swear that the notion I get in the DW fandom is that there is a Holy Mission From God (on Baltarian levels) to have everyone in fandom think The Right Way. And any kind of liking Rose or liking canon is The Wrong Way. *facepalm*

Apparently "live and let live" is a phrase completely unheard of to some. And unfortunately you get branded for all of time.

I know, right? The thing is, other fandoms (particularly HP and Buffy, both of which I've been in) is that despite being very fractured, it was easy enough to avoid wank if you stuck to your own corner of fandom. You can't do that in DW fandom, b/c the h8rz are in pretty much every community. They even run the biggest shipper comm. That in itself is bizarre, b/c when shippers complain about being unable to avoid bashing in their own shipper comm, the mods claim it's for anything D/R, even if you hate it. That makes no sense, b/c the understanding in every other shipper comm I've been in is that it's pro-ship--bashing is against the rules. H8rz just don't hang out there, except for trolls who get banned eventually.

And then there's the whole bit about the Legendary D/R Shipper Wank That Never Was (I believe that's how I got labelled a "crazy shipper"... I started asking where all the wank was, in a completely non sarcastic way--I was a n00b and was genuinely curious. The impression I got from the response is that D/R shipper wank is like the Thestrals in HP, but in reverse. You can't see the wank unless you hate Rose!). Add the fact that nearly all the DW BNFs are friends and members of Fandom Wank, and it's just a big snowball effect of wankery.

But after going over it in my head, I'm pretty much watching most of my shows for the whole package. (Or like to think so, anyway.) I did come up with:

• Vicki Nelson Kicks Ass, simultaneously with The PerkyGoth Files. They alternate positions between main screen and PiP.
  
• After a decade of The Sam Carter Show, trying to get used to its having been mashed into What Stupid Thing Will The Atlantis Expedition Do Today?. Net result: Meh.

Well, I was a copycat myself - saw it on the flist!

But after going over it in my head, I'm pretty much watching most of my shows for the whole package. (Or like to think so, anyway.)

I thought I watched the whole package for a couple of shows - especially the shows I don't ship on - but in thinking about it, I think I am a bit more specific. Like in Lost, there was a certain element last week that I was pretty much rolling my eyes and cringing at the whole time. And that's pretty standard whenever that element's on the show. Other parts I'm kind of ambivalent to, but some things I really like.
