Shhhhhhh.

I'm taking vacation starting on Thursday, and I think the supervisor has forgotten about it. I'm NOT going to remind her since she gets 20 ways to weird before we take vacation time - gets really passive aggressive, whines even more than normal, freaks out about stuff that isn't due for months, and huffs around as if your taking a couple of days off will ruin the company.

So I'm keeping my mouth shut until tomorrow night at 5:30 p.m. when it'll be "see you next Tuesday!" Mwah.

Also, I'm now determined to try a Sidecar. (Some people are now reading Agatha Christie again, I...focused on the drinks.)

One part brandy
One part Cointreau/Grand Marnier/triple sec
One part lemon juice

I've tried many drinks in my life, but I've never had brandy before.

Don't forget the Harvey Wallbanger (although it wasn't invented 'til the 50s). (Courtesy of Wikipedia, which for some reason has a rather comprehensive selection of articles about alcoholic beverages. Who knew? ;P)

Type: Cocktail

Primary alcohol by volume: Vodka

Served: "On the rocks"; poured over ice

Standard garnish: orange slice and maraschino cherry

Standard drinkware: Highball glass

IBA specified ingredients†:
4.5cl (3 parts) Vodka
1.5cl (1 part) Vanilla Galliano
9cl (6 parts) Fresh orange juice

Preparation: Mix the vodka and orange juice in the glass, then float the Vanilla Galliano on top. Garnish and serve.

3 parts vodka? Man, I'd so be on my ass. :D

And who was drinking those? I remember Donna kept drinking Sidecars and the Doctor went for lime sodas (apparently he learned his lesson from the tie-around-the-head incident.)

[identity profile] principia-coh.livejournal.com 2008-05-20 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
No-one was drinking those: it was Donna's guess as to what the Doctor wanted when he was miming for salt (after running through milk, milkshake, and cocktail shaker first):

Doctor: HARVEY WALLBANGER?!?!

Donna: Well I don't know!

Doctor: HOW IS HARVEY WALLBANGER ONE WORD?!?!

The reaction of my colleagues when they remember I'm off the next day is a moment I'll always guiltily treasure XD

Heeeeeeee! :D

Ahhhh vacation. Good for you! I love brandy..probably too much. Then again, I'm a brown liquor fan. Mmmmm scotch. Is it happy hour yet? It's my day off, you've convinced me to pretend it's a vacation!

I've only ever tried scotch once and bleh. Acquired taste, I'm sure.

*wills time to move faster*

*pre-records vacation voice mail greeting*

See, I knew there was a reason I liked you. ;-)

Also, yay vacation!

Sidecars sound AWESOME. And good luck with your supervisor! Also:

Sidecars sound AWESOME.

Interesting, at least. Almost like a variation of a margarita on the rocks.

And good luck with your supervisor!

If I stay absolutely still, she won't see me.

I love you. <3

It annoys me when people get passive-aggressive about vacation time. Vacation time is good for you! Burnt out employees are bad!

Cocktails were invented as "hair of the do" cures for hangovers from all the drinking done the night before....is what that bartender told me when he was handing out those vintage themed drinks. (Absinthe and Anisette. Licorice-y!)

*still needs to make herself an icon of Donna drinking cocktails*

The lame thing is that she bugs me to take vacation time since I tend to rack it up, but yet when it actually rolls around she gets pissy.

And the cocktails are the ones that can actually smack me down. :D

I'm often amazed at just how much people used to drink back then. Life had to have been spent either buzzed or hung over.

Did we ever see Martha drinking? There really should be an icon of the companions with drinks in their hands (take Rose from World War Three) in response to the Doctor doing stupid things. :D

*smacks forehead*

Whenever someone requests time off, my manager will complain that she can never have vacation days. And then she'll tell the other manager that she's free to work the whole week. And then she'll complain that she doesn't have any days off. (I love her, but she's a leaf in the wind kind of person).

I'm often amazed at just how much people used to drink back then. Life had to have been spent either buzzed or hung over.

And that's only counting actual alcohol, not the dozens of boozed up medicinal cures and "hair tonics". Ah, yes. People used to be such lushes.

HA! Might be able to find one for Astrid, too. *makes plans for icons* Um, Martha was drinking a beer in Human Nature, I think? There's not a close up of her holding it, though. *curses Martha's non-alcoholic ways*

I'm not one for brandy, but that Sidecar sounds pretty good. I may have to try that.

Did you ever try the Starbucks creation? (Hmm. I need to come up with a name for that one.)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-05-20 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it sounds *sorta* like a margarita. Which could be pretty tasty.

And I did try it, but for some reason wasn't wild about the Starbucks drink itself. Which is weird because chocolate and mint? Yum. :-\

[identity profile] ivydoor.livejournal.com 2008-05-20 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, you're not the first person to say that. I've had both my hubby and a friend try the Starbucks and it's very much a YMMV thing. I haven't tried it with just the plain mocha yet. I need to get back over to Sam's Club because they have cases of the stuff still.

Yay, vacation!

Oh, this reminds me. Must email you.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-05-20 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I need to be AWAY from this place.

[identity profile] poohmusings.livejournal.com 2008-05-20 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, I HEAR YOU.

[identity profile] chloris67.livejournal.com 2008-05-20 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be tasty with a bit of sugar syrup or a sugared rim on the glass.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-05-20 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, I think I'd go for putting sugar on the rim, but probably not the syrup. I don't like my drinks very sweet. If I'm making a margarita, I don't use the mix.

I'm the type that's reading Agatha Christie again
enjoy your vacation! and your drinks!
