Because you ALL need a review of a game that's already 2 years old. Admit it.

The Good
  • The cinematics between the game play are really amusing. It's the story of Star Wars from the movies, but tweaked a bit. Like Luke accidentally cutting off C3PO's head when he first gets his lightsaber. HEH!!

  • You can swap out playing any character in your group, which means you can be Leia or Luke or R2D2, etc. And everyone has different powers and abilities to get you through the level.

  • You can attack people in your party. There's something extremely amusing about Luke punching Obi-Wan. (ETA: Especially when I don't mean to do it. Like I'm really trying to swap characters but hit the wrong key - *POW* I laugh every time. :D)

  • ETA: Another good thing I just thought of - this thing is LONG. Seriously hours upon hours upon hours of game play. The levels themselves are extensive (like I mention below, it takes me a good 40 minutes to an hour to play one, but I'll admit that might be partly because I don't always know where to go), and there are 99 levels - covering all parts of Episodes IV, V and VI. Incredible. ETA2: Okay, wait. Maybe not 99... LOTS OF LEVELS.

The Bad
  • The PC platform controls are barely playable. I realize this isn't a game created for this platform, and you really do want to play it in a game console, but come on, Lucas Arts! It seriously couldn't have been that hard to have a workable mouse, letting the player use the mouse-keyboard combo like most shooters. The keys are annoying and really hard to get any sort of fine-tuned movement in the character.

  • No saving the game in the middle of a level?? (If there is, I haven't found it.) Basically, you have to be willing to commit to an hour of gameplay at a time (especially first time around - if you know where you're going, you probably would blaze through) otherwise you completely lose everything by quitting. That's just silly.

The Would Be Good If I Could Figure It Out
  • You can customize your character, but for the life of me I cannot figure it out. There's an area to do it in, but I've no idea what I'm doing, how to save something, or how to even exit the bloody area. I found that mashing the keyboard repeatedly finally works.

Overall, I would recommend this game but NOT for the PC. Seriously - avoid it like the plague on the PC platform as it'll only frustrate you.

About the only thing that might make the game playable oln the PC is this. Obviously it's $40 though, so you'd only want to get it if you really wanted it a lot.

I'm still seriously considering getting a Wii, so I think I'll pass on that. And just slog through the PC version for now. At only $18 for the game, I don't feel like I'm out that much if I decide to also get it in Wii.

[identity profile] chiroho.livejournal.com 2008-05-27 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Totally. It would make no sense at all.

I guess some people get them for the various PC ports of console games, though to be honest I usually buy games with better PC controls.

And you'll be better off with a Wii in the long run anyway.

I think so too. Now to just get my hands on one!

The kids I babysit for LOVE Lego Starwars. Unfortunately, I completely fail when it comes to playing it.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-05-27 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
It takes some getting used to, that's for sure. I think I spent the first hour running around and not accomplishing anything. :D

I had it for the Nintendo DS before I crushed it by accident under the heel of my oversized boot, and can recommend it. Lots of fun.

Awww, poor game!

[identity profile] kitsune17.livejournal.com 2008-05-27 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the console game has the same "can't save in the middle of a level" issue. It's been a while since I've played it, so I'm not entirely sure.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-05-27 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
MEH! That's unfortunate. The levels themselves are pretty long (especially if you're running through them for the first time) and by the end I'm just wishing for the level to be over already.

The Wii version that just came out (it has all 6 episodes combined) lets you quit a level and save your progress. You have to start the level over when you return, I think, but you at least get to keep any studs, minikits, etc. you've found in the meantime.

The character customization is okay, but not really necessary, btw. Unless you're dying to have a Jedi with R2's head, like we made. ;)

That's better, at least.

I'm thinking R2's body with Leia's head. :D

(Oh, and DAMN C3PO for lacking the ability to jump! He was punished for it, but sadly it didn't help the situation.)

[identity profile] ginamak.livejournal.com 2008-05-27 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
C3PO is worthless for anything other than unlocking doors. USE. LESS.

Of course, I'm regularly schooled in the game by my 6 year old son, so what do I know?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-05-27 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
And the worst part is often you have to build ramps or move him places via a crane, just because he is so innept. BAH.

Told you the "attacking your own buddies" is the best part.

Have you thrown anybody of a cliff yet?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Not only have I done that, I sometimes walk people over cliffs all by themselves. Okay, well that's kinda accidental most the time. Although once it was a mercy killing for C3PO who was hopping around with no arms and one leg. (Handy that they pop back to full form after they die.)

Actually that's more of what I meant. Though I have Forced people off the cliffs, my sister and I just love throwing ourselves off the cliffs.

Suicide has never been so fun.

Why of course.

*has small lego star wars love fest*

Woo hoo!!
