80s songs

I saw someone mention the first song on the [livejournal.com profile] mst3k community earlier, and I wound up getting nostalgic on youtube. :D

One Night in Bangkok - Murray Head

Venus - Bananarama

Dance Magic Dance - David Bowie

Walk of Life - Dire Straits

Wild Wild West - The Escape Club

Karma Chameleon - Culture Club

Once in a Lifetime and Burning Down the House - Talking Heads

99 Luftballons - Nena

We Didn't Start the Fire - Billy Joel

It's The End Of The World As We Know It - R.E.M.

Everybody Wants To Rule the World - Tears For Fears (Doctor Who version)

ETA: Okay, I think I'm going to try to dig up a copy of Labyrinth to watch tonight. :D

ETA2: Can't find it. I'm watching Moonstruck instead. (I've got the DVD, but Hulu reminded me I've got the DVD. If you've never seen this movie, I'd recommend it - and you can watch the whole thing on Hulu.)

I still do the dance from the video every time I hear "Venus." Trufax.

HA!

Well, I still knew most the words to these...

brilliant. Now I'm going to have Bananarama in my head for the rest of the weekend XD

LOL, if you like 80's nostalgia music you should watch Ashes to Ashes. Its full of it.

and big hair and bright make up. lol

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-08-24 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I keep meaning to do that! That and Life on Mars.

(Oh man, I had the big bangs and a perm for a while. YIKES.)

Yes but its not so much fun when your hair is like that naturally. lolol

you should, both series are awesome, but A2A is better I think.

What really sucks is that they aren't releasing the DVDs over here. Not yet, anyway. Instead we get an American remake. Bleh.

You mean remake, remake, they already did a pilot and it tanked, it was actually so bad it was laughable. TBH re-doing will take the humour, cos its brit humour.

If you cant get hold of them let me know, I have them all on my external.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-08-24 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, did it air already? Last I remember was seeing some ad on TV about a month ago, but I don't remember when it was supposed to air. I was already planning on not watching it.

And thanks! I'll sniff around to see what I can see.

They made the pilot, showed it, it tanked, they recast it, moved it and filmed it again, and I think thats the one thats about to come on.

No one will ever play Gene like Phil does.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-08-24 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll never get why they just don't air it here. Give it a shot! I think people would like it!

Yeah That bit baffles me too. Tho I think BBC America showed it.

Thing is, Harvey Keitel is not going to pull off the 'look at me im sexy' Gene that Phil does.

Then I dread what they woulld do if they made Ashes, cos....I cant see anyone finding him hot to ship for.

I still don't understand why I find Gene sexy, but I do.

Because he is a real man.

Not a poor excuse hiding behind pc correctness bullshit.

That and he is Yummy lol

Hmmm. I think I have the majority of these songs on CD somewhere. Certainly One NIght in Bangkok, for which I loved the orchestral introduction and the musical it came from, Venus (yes, I'm a closet Bananarama fan), Walk of Life, We Didn't Start the Fire, and Everybody wants to rule the World. I think I also have Wild, Wild, West on a compilation album. I'm such an 80s music fan.

But then I went to high school in the 80s, so what should I expect?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't have any cds of 80s stuff - never thought about it, really. But I just might have to get something now.

[identity profile] chiroho.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
According to my wife, my musical tastes never moved past the 80s. I don't think that's entirely true, but I do have a particular fondness for Australian music from that period.

[identity profile] chiroho.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
The strange thing is that I couldn't seem to get into the "Ashes to Ashes" series - or "Life on Mars" for that matter. Don't know why as I like Keeley Hawes as an actress (well in Spooks anyway), but I guess I just never found the time to sit down and watch it. Always meant to, as I'd like both the music and the Audi Quattro, but somehow ... It's strange as I enjoyed TV shows like "Minder" and "The Professionals" from the 70s and 80s, but this one just didn't seem to click. Perhaps I need to give it another look.

Btw, I help run a Yahoogroup for Chess the musical, if you're interested, or if you're not already a member of the list. :)

[identity profile] audrich.livejournal.com 2008-08-26 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh!!! *clicks and favourites*

*realises she's on her husbands YT ID*

*goes to his delete*

*smirks evily and makes tea instead*

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-08-26 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
MWAH!

[identity profile] acciochocolate.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
I love all those songs, esp. the first one. I'm a fan of Murray's and a great fan of Chess , the musical. :)

Laby is one of my all-time fav films.

So fun all this old stuff is out there!
