Was listening to the Torchwood audio again this morning. I think I just like hearing their voices. :D And I've decided that I love Gwen's voice. Her tone and accent - it's just really snifty. (And I also listened to NPR and decided I cannot stand listening to Sarah Palin - her tone and accent is NOT snifty.)

Question - what kind of accent does Martha have? I noticed a "f" for a "th" sound here and there, but it's really not the same as Rose and Ten's accents. (Estuary? I think?)

I was just thinking this morning that I've lived with being unable to stand Bush's smug voice for 8 years. I've hated it, but I've lived with it. I could NOT deal with 4 (or FSM forbid 8) years of Palin's. Or even Tina Fey's spot on mimicry, although I still giggle insanely at that skit.

It's just... *shudders* I forget what she was talking about this morning, but all the cut-off words was annoying - you know, like where the 'g' gets dropped off the end of a word.

It's not the accent so much as her actual voice. That nasally tone grates my ears. But I do get you on the accent. I think the combination of both really is what makes it near impossible to listen to her. I've only listened to snippets of the interview she did with Charles Gibson, I read the rest. I just couldn't stand the way she constantly said "Charlie". Something about her vowel pronunciation makes my eyes roll back and lip curl.

Rose and Ten's accents are Estuary, as is Martha's (and Tish's) - although both Jones' sisters accents are less pronounced than Rose's; possibly because their mother's accent is pretty much straight Received Pronunciation.

i am really enjoying it overall though, it's just little bits, it'd be like having ten speak/talk like nine..it doesn't work.

go back and listen to the first three episodes, seriously, that's the first thing i noticed. But, when i listen to radio dramas i tend to really absorb myself in everything, even the sounds of walking etc....lol.
I love to try to picture it being a show in my mind. If you go back and listen to Jack, he will say it and he never said it on the show that i ever recall, which is what i thought was so odd. I can't remember who said it but i had mentioned martha whining, not really whining per se, but just the way she spoke to Jack, it reminded me of how she used to speak with the doctor like she's trying to be dramatic, but there's just this tinniess to her voice, hard to describe....(another reason i try to forget S3 lol)
Wish John Simm would come back speaking of S3!

one more thing...
NOT to knock Martha, cuz i DO love her as part of TW (more than S3 of DW) but she's whining again....*sigh* i dont think it's freema, i just wanna know who's writing this? has anyone read who wrote it? there's scenes when she's speaking to Jack, and yeah i've noticed on this that Martha's accent does seem different than on DW....the whole thing is odd....but like i said i still like it cuz well....it's Torchwood :)
