Disneyland/Disney World will be free on your birthday! Go here to register.

In other Disneyland news, there's going to be a movie about Tomorrowland?

You know, there are just way too many jokes. I think my brain broke. I'm not sure how it is at Disney World, but at Disneyland, Tomorrowland is the worst themed area of the park. It completely lacks any sort of cohesion and they've never really known what to do with it after the 60s when "The Future" became dated. (Not that I was around in the 60s! I'm not that old!)

*uses Tomorrowland icon circa 60s or 70s*

*blinks* I thought it was supposed to look like that. Sort of… retro, like Main Street. (They put all the high-tech stuff at Epcot, anyway.)

Once upon a time it was actually futuristic. But then it just became dated. Back when they remodeled (in the 90s, I think), they tried to go for a Jules Verne style - that sort of future-of-the-past thing, but that didn't really work either and they wound up repainting stuff like Space Mountain, changing from copper-colored back to white again. Not it's sort of...who knows? There're always rumors about them finally figuring out what to do, but it's just sort of in limbo. And now with the Finding Nemo ride in Tomorrowland, it really has no sort of theme. :D

ETA: Speaking about Disneyland here. Things could be much better over at Disney World.

While it doesn't have a "theme" other than "The Future that Never Was", Disney World's Tomorrowland goes together. I think the Tomorrowland Trasit Authority helps with that as it goes through or by all of the attractions (and is just so relaxing and never crowded).

From what I've heard from people who've been to both (I've only been to WDW), the Magic Kingdom is much larger than Disneyland. Maybe that makes a difference in that it's more spread out and can have more things.

They got rid of that a decade or so ago at Disneyland. The tracks are still there though.

I'm sure that helps.

*snorts*

I'm not sure what I like more. The fact that Disney is making the Tomorrowland movie, or that they've gotten The Rock to do another movie for them.

You know, I could be wrong, but I'm smelling a disaster in the making. :D

See, I think it'd be cool if they re-did all of Tomorrow-land, going back to the original concept of a future that never was--and even something as disperate as Tomorrowland can work as a cohesive whole. I mean, look at Steampunk, another of those Future-that-never-was things. Even though some people are there for the giant robots or cars on a track, some people are there for the time machines and Jules Verne, and it all works together to make a whole, in parts.

But they'll never do that because they're Disneyland and thus resistant to actually changing anything of the original too drastically--even if it would mean going back to the original idea...

I think it could work as well. Unfortunately, though, when they did the remodel it consisted of a paint job, some funky "rocks" at the entrance and the whirly thing that goes off every 15 minutes. And relocated the Rockets. But even the planters stayed the same. They really need to do everything and have it make sense. Oh, and do something with the video arcade space.

[identity profile] tsukara.livejournal.com 2008-09-19 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, all of that. I mean, you look at someplace like Adventure Land (I think that's it) and how many disparate elements it's got--and it works!

I'd be really psyched actually if they did a redesign of it along the lines of steampunk. That'd be so cool...Ah well.

I would too.

Free? WHOOHOO! Especially considering the price of a one day one park pass is $75, that's awesome.
Now I just need to find a birthday buddy to go with...

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-09-19 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's totally worth it! Split the cost of one ticket with someone, and it's much more managable.

... You know, I like Tomorrowland as much as the next Disney-theme-park-crazed person, but really? REALLY? I am agog.

Of course, I've only ever seen the WDW version, and I think that it's a bit more up-to-date. I mean, it's from the 70s, after all. *snerk*

I have NO idea what the plot would be. None. I'm not sure my imagination's that good.

Disneyland/Disney World will be free on your birthday!

Woohoo!! Well it's too late for my sister's birthday, but definitely not for me. ;) Hehehehe.

Thanks for the info! :D

I knew sharing a b-day with my friend had to be good for something. We won tickets last year too and had a blast with the extra money we saved. And our birthday lands on a Sunday in '09! About damned time, I say.

(As to atmosphere, theme, and the like...I'm a ride junkie so I'm happy as long as I get a rush, but even so, my favorite place is New Orleans Square.)

Any suggestions about when to make reservations for the Blue Bayou?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-09-21 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh cool! You definitely need to go then!

And as far as Blue Bayou, the last I heard you can make reservations up to a year in advance by calling the number on their website - think it's listed on the Blue Bayou page. You really need to call ahead rather than trying to walk up and get reservations on the same day.

Ooooh, that's pretty cool! Now, let's see, which park do I want to see for free ... ? ;)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
OOOOOOOOH. *wonders if I'll be healthy in May yet*

[identity profile] poohmusings.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Awww. *pets* I know the drugs and stuff have you feeling all doped up, but how are you doing otherwise?

While I wouldn't mind checking out WDW on my b-day, I honestly don't know if my manager would let me. She's been acting so strange lately whenever I ask her for a day off here and there. It's like I'm asking for a month off! And that's beginning to annoy me because I have A LOT of PTO saved up and I need to use it soon or else I'll lose it.

But since I want to stay on her good side (although there are days when I wonder if it's worth it), I might have to wait till next Sept. before I can take any substantial time off. :(

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Doesn't seem to be a huge change for me. Eh. At this point I'm almost too tired to care.

Stupid manager! Good grief!
