Grapes ARE weird. Whatever happened to tea? Maybe it's just a weird Opal thing and not at all British and she's secretly just trying to lead us astray!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-12-14 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
And a weird Doctor Who thing, don't forget!

Small Part of My Brain: What? They're buying grapes? I don't understand.
Large Part of My Brain: HEEE!! FLUFF!!! THEY. ARE. SO. CUTE.
Small Part of My Brain: But...
Large Part of My Brain: WHEEEEEEEEE!!!

THIS IS NOT WEIRD.

WHY DOES NOBODY ELSE IN THE WORLD BUY GRAPES?

Heck, grapes, flowers and magazines are the three reasons to have a shop in a hospital! XD

*Eats another grape*

And now I have seen the totally random poll™ for the day. *g* Grapes?? Where did that come from? Orange juice and chicken soup are what I think of.

Which is accompanied by a totally random icon™ that's not even mine! I hate when that happens.

Oh, [livejournal.com profile] shinyopals is poorly and is eating grapes at the moment, which made me think of the DW line from New Earth and the strange relation between grapes and illness.

Which is accompanied by a totally random icon™ that's not even mine! I hate when that happens.

What now?

Why does no one else eat grapes when ill? IT MAKES SENSE.

And I think the icon thing's a blip in the code since I've seen other people have similar problems, but as MV said upthread, everyone else sees Carlisle "erhm"ing in this comment and eating ice cream in the next comment.

It's sunny out but COLD. Also, I had never heard of the grapes thing before NE, and I would have thought that would have been one of those odd British things my father would have clung to.

I'm starting to think it's a big conspiracy to laugh at people outside the UK. Like Cricket.

Awwwwww. A spa sounds lovely right now.

You buy sick people grapes when they are in hospital. TRUFAX.

Although if I am ever in hospital, I want people to bring me chocolate. Lots of it.

And also, it's dark here and cold so I put other =]

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-12-14 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)

That's such a strange concept to me. :D

Although if I am ever in hospital, I want people to bring me chocolate. Lots of it.

That's more like it. :D

Heh heh!

[identity profile] makesometime.livejournal.com 2008-12-14 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I would definitely think of buying someone grapes if I visited them at hospital. BUT I found the question confusing, as if I found out someone was sick, my first thought wouldn't be about grapes XD

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-12-14 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[stares at your icon]

Sorry...what? Something about grapes?

When an (American) friend of mine got ill in Japan, our mutual English friend brought her flowers and grapes. I had no idea why, but he explained. So it definitely is a practice, and is why your poll makes perfect sense. : )

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-12-14 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
And so possibly not a mass conspiracy to confuse other countries. :D

[identity profile] anotokino.livejournal.com 2008-12-14 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
It should be snowing but it's just freezing cold and dark. No clouds, just dark. I want snooow for Christmas ;_;

I'd never heard about the grapes thing, heh. The More You Know™ :D

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-12-15 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
The More You Know, indeed! :D

[identity profile] goldy-dollar.livejournal.com 2008-12-14 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
It just started changing, so I felt compelled to change my answer from "clouds" to "snow."

YES. YOU HAD TO KNOW THIS.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-12-15 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad you did. Otherwise I would have had bad information.

[identity profile] fiona-conn.livejournal.com 2008-12-14 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Current condition:

Dark out and can't tell what weather it is. ; )

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-12-15 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Dang!

[identity profile] solielle.livejournal.com 2008-12-14 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I know of the grapes thing, but I don't know why the grapes thing. I can only think that it is too hard to smuggle chicken soup into a hospital.

Also, it is raining here. Like, ALOT. Finally.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-12-15 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe that's it - grapes can go in your pocket. Soup cannot. Unless it's in a baggy.

It's raining a lot here too.

[identity profile] lobsterbelle.livejournal.com 2008-12-14 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Wouldn't the sugar in grapes be bad for a sore throat?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-12-15 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe it's for non-sore throat kind of sick?

[identity profile] outforawalk.livejournal.com 2008-12-15 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
I did not understand why on earth you would be asking about grapes and sickness, until I saw the New Earth reminder. That was something that I thought odd at the time and then never thought about again. I mean, they are frolicking and arm cuddling and generally basking in their own adorableness at that point. I blame the cute.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-12-15 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
It really is hard to focus on the odd stuff when there's cute around. I mean, did you know that in Gridlock they had giant crabs? All I remember are the kittens.

I usually end up going for tea at the first sign of being sick. ^_^"

And current condition is COLD!! :D Had a bit of sun there for a bit but it's completely gone now.

I'm not crazy! I go for tea as well. And I say congee is better therapy than grapes.

(Current conditions: steamy, for it is -28C outside and I find great amusement in opening the door.)

Grapes seem an awfully fiddly food for sick people. I'll stick with oj and chicken soup.

For the second I put "sun." Not entirely accurate as it's currently midnight, but it was sunny today and I sure as heck ain't going outside to check current weather conditions now.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-12-15 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I might have to try grapes the next time I get sick. See if it's something I like eating.

And I'll take your word for it about the sun.

[identity profile] frenchroast.livejournal.com 2008-12-15 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
Having read all the comments to this, I'm now straining to remember if any of my Brit friends from when I lived in France mentioned grapes when people got sick. I like to think I would have remembered that, but I don't. Then again, when one is in France, one tends to only find the fermented, bottled kind.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-12-15 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
The fermented, bottled kind could be its own remedy. :D

[identity profile] the-lucky-stars.livejournal.com 2008-12-15 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, I'm British and most people I know would be surprised if, lying in their sickbed, they were suddenly presented with a bunch of grapes. Flowers are more common, I guess! Aaand it's raining here but I've still got until April to wait for the snow, judging by last year!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-12-15 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Opal and Doctor Who are just screwing with us.

And April? That's a ways off.
