It's 53 degrees here right now. For the high. In Southern California, that's damn near apocalyptic. We just sort of stare at the outdoors, very confused. Much like my icon.

I passed two people coming out of a building while at lunch, and this was their conversation:

Person 1: You look outside and think it's normal because it's sunny, but then you step outside...

Person 2: And it's freezing! I know! It's so weird!

Me: [contemplates suggesting an ice age, but is too cold to stick around and hurries back to the office with my soup]

*EYES YOU*

I can refrain from ever writing fluff again, you know.

The other day, it reached 5 degrees here (Celsius - not sure what that is in American - 40, maybe?), and I stripped all the way down to my t-shirt on the way to school. And even then I still broke out into a sweat.

That day feels like a hazy memory, now.

Well, you're Canadian. You're part polar bear.

I like the Ice Age idea! I've been having the same reaction to the weather. I just look outside and wonder if I really have to go to the grocery store or if I could scrounge my cupboards for another day. :) Though I must say that the Midwest is worse. I got called off from work cause of the blizzard outside. :P

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly we never have any snow days. [sniffs] But there was some serious hibernation going on the other day when it rained really hard.

[identity profile] azarsuerte.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
*grin* That was one of the biggest things I had to adjust to when I moved to PA for college. I was like, "...you mean you can't tell the temperature by looking out the window?" I once wound up sweating my butt off in a turtleneck in August because I'd made the mistake of assuming the cloud-covered sky meant it would be chilly...

Ah, the good old days. *shivers*

(BTW, are you in San Diego or LA? I keep forgetting.)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! You should be able to get visual reads on the weather! That only makes sense!

And I'm down in San Diego. :)

It's pretty cold where I am, no snow yet either, though! (Love the icon, ha)

I love listening to other peoples' conversations. I was at the bus stop and overheard a pair of little kids arguing with their dad about whether it's 6 or 10 days until Xmas. Aww.

D'oh my God! Today there was frost on the astroturf at my school! One girl came up to me and said she had a thermometer and it was 33 degrees. I was very cold (and confused as to why this girl carried a thermometer with her).

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
BRRRRRRRRRR!!! And yeah, that's a bit strange to be carrying around a thermometer...

[identity profile] ginamak.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, y'all are so cute! It's 31°F here; we're thinking about going swimming.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what it got down to last night! Well, more like 37, but close! It wasn't fit for man nor beast!

*contemplates ways to send you the six inches of snow in my driveway*

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be awesome! I could make a snowman! It might even last overnight before it melted!

My dear, I am in Seattle. It's about 22 degrees right now. It's going to be 17 tonight.

For Seattle, that's insane and... AND we have snow on the ground that is going to turn to ice AND we have another winter storm on the way with wind gusts predicted to 90mph which means we will likely be without power next week. For Christmas.

I do not want to HEAR about your 53 degree problems.

But I love you even if you are a crazy Californian.

Perhaps if both [livejournal.com profile] splash_the_cat and I send you our snow, then you will be able to tell that it's cold just by looking outside.

Also, you never have cold, sunny days there? That seems so weird to me. *g*

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Not really. We have cool days, but not too many cold days. If the high for the day ever goes below 50, you'll get to see me freaking the hell out.

People over here are having snow problems... I'm sure they would like very much to send you some of theirs ;) But be warned : snow is cold. Colder than 53 F. Much, much colder. In fact, if you touch it, you will freeze your hand forever and then you'll have to chop it off. *nods*

As for where I live specifically, we're about the same as you I think, in the 10 C (50 F?), and it actually feels like it's hot. Go figure.

Wednesday, at 3:50 PM, it was (according to the car dealer's thermometer) 47 F in Anaheim (57 fwy and Ball Road, to be exact). And yesterday morning, the Santa Ana Mountains--the little baby mountains that more or less parallel the 55 freway--had snow.all.the.way.down. It was amazing! Of course, it was also gone by late afternoon, but still.

What people forget about when they mock us for being whiney Californians is that we don't really know how to dress for a regular work day when it's cold. Our defaults are:
1. it's below 60F, I'd better wear a long scarf with my hoodie, shorts and flipflops, or
2. Dude, dress for a day of snowboarding. in a blizzard.

Hm. On second thought, mock away.

I guess after the apocalypse, you end up dressing for the cold, not against it.

This morning it was -25C, with a windchill of hell frozen over. Bright, sunny, hazy, the buses were 5-10 minutes late. It was fun. =D

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-12-20 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the only thing I can say to that is BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

[identity profile] marchsky.livejournal.com 2008-12-20 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
I know. It's been freezing this week! I went to Disneyland yesterday and by night time, my entire body was numb. The weather was better than Wednesday at least (although it was incredibly incredibly crowded yesterday for some reason). When I come home from the Midwest, I expect SoCal to shower me with warmth! Oh well =P.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-12-20 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man, I've done the cold nights at Disneyland before. BRR. Looks like it won't be warming up until the weekend right after Christmas, which is unusual this time of year.

Ouch. That is cold! (Houston resident, so my standards of cold are probably fairly similar to yours.) Hehe, if you want folks thinking it's the apocalypse - a group of LA-based coworkers came to Houston for a meeting, and it promptly snowed. I think it was actually the first time at least one of them had ever seen snow.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-12-21 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
Fortunately I'm not THAT bad. Every year my family would go up to the mountains in the winter, so I have experienced snow. :D

[identity profile] beck-liz.livejournal.com 2008-12-21 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Am in Indiana now, and I laugh at you puny Californians. ;-) Tomorrow, the high will be 11. ELEVEN. After which it will go sharply downhill. Also? Windy, so the wind chill will be -10 to -20. We're getting more snow tonight.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-12-21 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
So you pretty much never leave the house, right? Except to maybe let in some fresh air?
