I'm still planning on Hawaiian pizza tonight.

Well, I got to watch some of the filing in on TV, but had to listen to the actual swearing in on the radio on the way to work. So early in the day! It was a wonderful moment, which I'm sure many of you would agree. I thought his speech was serious to fit the times but also offered hope, provided we're willing to work for it. It was a great tone to set. I'm not sure he'll be able to accomplish everything he wants to (the U.S. is a very large ship that can't turn on a dime), but I am confident that he'll at least try.

Randomly - things I've learned from watching the History Channel last night. 1) the West Wing was supposed to be temporary, but since it's been around 100 or so years now, they're keeping it, 2) the West Wing is way off to the side of the building you see whenever you see pictures of the White House. I thought they were much more connected, and 3) the Oval Office was constructed where it is today so that FDR could have easy access with his wheelchair.

The More You Know. *ding*

Ah, but was the White House occupied by a bloke called Mr Chicken? I DIDN'T THINK SO.

No, but there was a big block of cheese. :D

Cheese?

This is something I can approve of.

HEE.

Clearly this is where modern day politicians mess up. NOT ENOUGH CHEESE.

BWAH!

I thought his speech was pretty balanced between hope and reality. I agree that it was a great tone. Everyone is so pleasant today, amongst the talking heads. I am interested to see how long the cooperative air lasts.

Oh, there's always a honeymoon period. Give it a couple of months.

[identity profile] outforawalk.livejournal.com 2009-01-20 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, it has been so long since I was remotely excited about these things, I can't remember. (There was no honeymoon for me and GWB.)

MSNBC is so confused as to what is going on with the parade and the walking. It is kind of hilarious to me.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-01-20 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
HA! Why are they confused? I'm not at a TV right now. All I know is that the whole parade thing was probably going to take longer than it'd take for Bush to fly back to Texas.

He popped out of the car sooner than he was supposed to, but then he hopped back in and didn't come back out when they expected. Good old Countdown Keith was on and on about how puckish Obama can be. Then he spoke to Al Roker as he walked and Al totally spazzed with fanboy glee. It was hilarious. But then they overshot the White House while they were walking, so they all had to pile back into the limo, to be driven to the reviewing platform. What a time suck this coverage is.

Never would I have imagined there would be a political speech I actually wanted to hear.

It's so nice to hear a President speak who is optimistic instead of full of doom and gloom. Plus he doesn't make up words. ;)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-01-20 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
That's always a bonus. :D
