  • Baal is still the best System Lord. He makes evil fun. :D

  • Um. I refuse to believe that Sam and Daniel would ever leave Jack behind. Even if he was dead. I refuse to believe that part too.

  • Awww. Sam has a moment over Jack dying. (Clearly this means she is unfit for command since no strong woman must ever ever ever show emotion.)

  • Daniel dies! Only he doesn't! Just like old times. :D

  • Ah, time travel resulting in an alternate timeline. Didn't we already do with with Moebius? Oh well, at least there's more Jack, even if he doesn't realize he and Sam are snuggle bunnies.

  • Bit of a different take on the old time travel story. They're all faced with having to start new lives in the alternate timeline.

  • Um, Cameron's grandfather was killed when he was older, right? Why would that make a difference if Cameron existed? Unless his grandfather had Cameron's father when he was 60.

  • Heh heh heh. Daniel has gotten as snarky as Jack. :D

  • WOAH. Daniel's flying a jet? When did he learn how to do that??? Oh, he's in the back seat. Heh.

  • Aww, Daniel dies AGAIN. Oh Daniel, when will you learn to stop dying?

  • So they extract Baal out of the guy, but we don't get to see the guy without him? I'm a bit disappointed.

  • And Cameron has a picture hanging in his locker that was taken with the paradox of a duplicate Cameron Mitchell. *SOBS* Stargate, YOU ARE NEVER ALLOWED TO DO TIME TRAVEL AGAIN.

*nods* Stargate should never ever attempt time travel. Every single time they do it turns into a whole mess of...well...messiness. It's like none of them ever watched a single episode of Doctor Who!

Or any other time travel show. *twitches*

Stargate does the Canadian version of time travel.

A number of points:
1) Your post icon is the most appropriate icon in the history of icon appropriateness.

2) Ba'al is indeed awesome. For most of the series I tended not to like him much, but that changed in seasons 9 and 10 when he was evil while still being kind of human and having a sense of humour. Also, South African accent. Always good.

3) You know what got to me a little bit about Continuum? Vala's barely in it, and for most of the time that she *is* in it she's in Quetesh mode. To be fair, I'd assume the first part arose from Claudia Black having other commitments (guesswork)... nevertheless, it would have been nice if they'd gone with her actual voice for her Quetesh scenes rather than the Goa'uld voice-changer jiggery-pokery, as I think she would have sounded much better (and quite possibly more evil) without it. It's an easy way of ruining a great voice. :(
3a) Oh, and also Quetesh's lines kinda suck for the most part. Especially when she first appears, since she mostly acts as exposition-lady to fill us in on what Ba'al's been doing for the last 60-odd (?) years. Sloppyyyyy!

4) As for Cameron's grandfather... I don't know, was he really all that old? I'd assumed he was roughly Cam's age and it's just that the beard made him look older (but, y'know, sailor! Facial trimming is not important when attempting to avoid U-boats!). Even if he had in fact had kids already, you can fairly easily force things to make sense: Mrs. Grandma Mitchell (on a related note, do you reckon this grandma was the religious one Cam was always going on about?) learns of her husband's death and, after a socially-acceptable period, re-marries because she has a son (Cam's dad) to care for. Son takes Husband #2's surname, and bang goes the Mitchell family - it's entirely possible that Cam did exist but was untraceable because of the different surname.

Okay, so frankly I think all of the above is a lie that the writers just didn't consider, but what are fans for except to notice and then fill in plot-holes, right?

And about the time-travel thing... yeah, I'm with you on this one. Partly out of the sheer paradox side of things, and partly because they've done it so damn often (including Stargate Atlantis) that it just isn't that interesting any more. Though I did richly enjoy General Landry calling them out on the arrogance of wanting to have their own timeline restored, because the 'our universe is better because it's ours' attitude that SG-1 so frequently displays has always really got to me.

I'm pretty sure Claudia was pregnant so her part was small.

Yeah, I figured as much but didn't actually want to go looking up all the dates and everything! Like I said, it wasn't necessarily the absence of Vala that got me so much as the feeling that in the few scenes she was in, she wasn't being used very effectively. If that makes any sense.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
1) :D

2) I think one of my favorite episodes is still that one where Jack is tortured by Baal and ghost!Daniel comes to visit him.

3) Vala's a character that came really after I left, so I didn't really notice her absence.

4) He looked like he had gray hair, but I was watching on Netflix and for some reason the quality wasn't all that great. But I suppose it could have been a situation where if his grandfather was killed later in life, it would have impacted what Cameron did with his life. (What plot hole? :D)

And for doing yet another time travel episode, I do have to give them credit for doing things I hadn't really seen before. That calling into question the "correct" timeline for one, and having SG-1 actually start up lives for another.

Given the age of the parents (as seen in the crappy Earth reunion episode) we can take a pretty good guess as to when Mitchell dad was born. Cam himself was conceived in 1969; given how old his father looked in the reunion episode he was not a father out of the starting blocks at some stupidly young teenage year of his life.

So it's a fail I'm afraid.

Um, Cameron's grandfather was killed when he was older, right? Why would that make a difference if Cameron existed? Unless his grandfather had Cameron's father when he was 60.

EXACTLY! Said that myself when I watched it. And all it would have taken was one line : "There was an accident on the farm when my Dad was a kid. Grandma always reckoned that Dad would've been killed if my Granddad hadn't pulled him out of the way of the tractor / car / tree / rampaging bull / homicidal wasp, guess she was right."

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah! That could have done it!

HAHAHAHAHA. I knew there was something time travel related I wanted to warn you about, but couldn't remember what exactly. But yes, the photo. That made my head hurt BAD. (And I couldn't diagram my way out of it!)

MY BRAIN. WOE.

(And you live! Yay!)
