Hey, does this sound right? It'd take 10 hours to get from London to Geneva by blimp?

Also, I think I've become addicted to multigrain Cheerios. Not that these two things are related.

I have no idea about the blimp but multigrain Cheerios are awesome! XD

I've started eating them as a snack. Forget the milk! :D

(Hmm. Your icon has reminded me that I need bananas.)

Okay I did research this once and I wound up concluding that Bergen to London was something like 3 hours? How that compares with London to Geneva, I have no idea.

I'm not sure either. :D

Ten hours is do-able...

Typical cruising speed for the Goodyear Blimp is 35 mph in zero-wind conditioins, but it can do over 50 mph at its top speed. Given that Geneva is ~465 miles from London, that would give you an average cruising speed of 46.5 mph -- factoring in time to get up to speed, and then to decelerate, you'd probably have to do a good chunk of the trip really pushing the engines, or with a good tail wind, but it's do-able.

Ooooh! So maybe saying 11 hours would be a bit more realistic.

It takes 11 hours. Duh.

Assuming you're talking the PW, you can make up whatever number you want. Remember they've been making zeppelins continuously a lot longer than we have (or at least that's the impression we've been given), so if you're afraid that sounds too slow you could make it a luxury cruise or fighting against winds or summat.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
True. Although they did seem very typical blimp-like from what we saw. But the trip isn't a critical one - really just a "let's go traveling" one - so I don't mind it just cruising along.

In my mind PW does also have helicopters and planes, just that blimps are stately and in style. If you need to get somewhere quick, you're not going to be using a Zeppelin.

Totally unrelated comment. I saw a NCIS/Dr. Who crossover earlier and was excited about it until the second line, where they referred to The Doctor as "John" at which point I could not read the story.

Also, I love to eat multigrain Cheerios dry as a snack.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Ack! Don't be calling the Doctor "John!"

[identity profile] vegmb.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
At first I thought they were talking about an outside character, but I don't think there are any John's in NCIS either...then it hit me. And my brain hurt and I couldn't read anymore. If none of the companions on the show has ever called him by a given name, why would anyone decide it is ok to give him one? My mind is officially boggled.

He uses John Smith as an alias (has as far back as the Third Doctor - maybe earlier), but no one has ever actually called him that. Not while he's been himself, at least.

[identity profile] vegmb.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I knew he had used it as an alias. But this was a Doctor/Rose fic.

[nods emphatically] Which is why I didn't make it past the second sentence.
