MRI = EVIL TUBE OF DEATH

Or that's apparently what my brain thought when it proceeded to have a full-blown anxiety attack the second I went in the tube. Just so you know, I now feel sorry for hamsters.

I'm trying again on Thursday, but I will be heavily medicated and it'll be on the open MRI machine instead of the tube. *shudders*

Meep. I used to have panic attacks, when I was younger — they're not nice at all. And from what I've seen on House, MRIs look effing scary even on screen.

Awww, you poor thing! Did they try to stick your entire body in the tube? The one time I had an MRI (to make sure my head wasn't full of brain tumors omg), only my head went in, so I didn't get freaked out. Since I get antsy in packed elevators, I'd hate to see my reaction to a full-body MRI.

And what I've seen onscreen looked a whole lot bigger than what they shoved me into. It was TINY.

Awww... I had to do that when I was seven for three hours. Thankfully I didn't really know better and handled it okay, despite needing to go to the bathroom halfway through. That was fun! I'm glad you can go to the open one next time. I was a bit peeved when I grew up and found out that they'd come out with that. Lucky!

But thanks. I'm now on some meds that are supposed to help vertigo, and that does seem to be taking the edge off.

Yep, and it was all the way in too. I'm just glad I didn't really know what was going on then since they were looking for brain tumors. Scary! Of course I've since found out how bad it was for my parents. :-/ I wish they hadn't gone through that. I think I had the easier part!

The open one, if it's the one I've had, is a lot less scary than the closed tube. It's this massive thing - that narrows down to a circle - but they only shove the part of your body they're scanning through the circle part. So if it's your head - your head will be surrounded, but your shoulders down will be in a much bigger space - like room like space. The worst part, I thought, was how loud it was.

Yuck! I hope the open machine and meds help you! (They did for my mom when she had to go for one and she's terribly claustrophobic.) Good luck.

I've had three for my head and it's not so bad :) The trick is not to get too worked up beforehand. For brain scans, it's in the tube and they are rather long, so I do understand the anxiety. I gave myself a migraine over the first one. Which was kind of ironic.

The worst part, I thought, was how loud it was.

YES. I'd forgotten that. There's really no sound like it.

*hugs* Want my rods? They won't be able to stick you in an MRI and they'll have to find another way to figure things out.

I cannot imagine having to be shoved all the way in there; the one time I had an MRI, I decided that actually, yes, I probably was a bit claustrophobic as the mere thought of having to spend an hour INSIDE that machine was yucky. Probably deafening too. Jeez, those things are loud.

I've always thought that having an MRI or CT scan would be horrible. Lord knows my dad had enough of them. *shudder*

Oh, no. =( Completely agree with you on the Evil Tube of Death - had to get in one when I had an appendicitis scare a few years back, and all that banging made me ever more scared than I already was. I hope the panic eases with the meds, and hope of course that everything shows up okay on the scan. *hug*

I'm sorry it was such an awful experience. Hopefully the meds will be lovely next time around.

I think I must be the only person who enjoyed their experience with an MRI. I mostly just closed my eyes and listened to the machine hum and click. It was like having a malfunctioning R2-D2 lovingly hover around you. Really kind of peaceful; I almost fell asleep a couple of times. The far worse part of the whole thing was when the nurses completely failed at injecting me with the contrast--the first part was done without, and I actually had to come back the next day so they could get the nurse who was "good at sticking people"--and even she took three tries to get the needle in my veins. Damn my rolling veins. I can never become a heroin addict thanks to them.

Oh darling, what a shame. I had to get an MRI after I had my first seizure and they can be very cramped. Hope all goes well on Thursday.

The last time I had a CT scan I started to get all anxious and claustrophobic - and that was only my head! I ended up just having to close my eyes and try to ignore where my head was because I knew I'd freak if I didn't.

I hope your second try goes better.

And now I have to mention reading this 12 hours later, I see the words "EVIL TUBE" And suddenly hear Former Senator Ted Stevens saying "It's a series of tubes!"

Ooh, yeah, I always carry around some vertigo meds with me. That stuff strikes whenever it wants (with NO warning!) and is so hard to deal with. *continued hugs*

Yeah, I just had my fourth MRI. Not a really fun thing ever. This time I asked the doctor for meds before hand and I took Ativan. It made the difference between feeling like I was fighting off a panic attack and being almost able to relax in the tube. When you're not freaking out the noise sounds kinda like cool techno music.
