NOM NOM

Unless I'm eating an egg or an omelet or the like, I've never really been fond of that egg-y taste in things. That why I ♥ FLAX MEAL! A few days ago I made meatballs with flax meal instead of an egg - you couldn't even tell there was any kind of seed/grain stuff in it! And this morning I made egg-less pancakes. And they were YUMMY. Bye bye egg-y taste, hello nutty taste!

And filed under "the more you know," I had no idea that jasmine plants were good hummingbird plants. I opened my blinds this morning to a hummingbird snacking on my plant. Very pretty one, too, with sort of iridescent red on its head.

Hmm. Flax meal and bird watching. Yes I'm 85.

Do you often find yourself complaining about "kids today" and the music they listen to?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-06-03 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! But that just means I'm cool, right?

*resumes petting*

Well, I like you, and I often complain about kids these days, so I think... yes?

What's wrong with bird watching? =P

Oh, just the stereotype of it being an elderly hobby. :D

LOL, my dad's an ornithologist (bird watcher).

And it's something that travelled in the family, evidently *sometimes talks to the birds, too...*

These nutty flavored pancakes sound delicious. Where did you find the recipe?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-06-03 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I just snagged this recipe (http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Good-Old-Fashioned-Pancakes/Detail.aspx) from allrecipes.com. (I LOVE that site.)

But instead of an egg I substituted 1 tablespoon flax seed meal and 3 tablespoons water. (The standard egg substitution ratio.)

Allrecipes is pretty great. Thanks for the link. I'll have to try it when I have a chance for a leisurely (read: cooked) breakfast.

Normally that only happens on weekends for me.

I love jasmine. I have already informed hubby I wish to plant it here at the new house, back by the pool. He wouldn't let me plant it at the old house because the granddaughter of the people across the street was allergic.

Ooh, you should! It's really pretty. I just wished it bloomed more of the year.

It's all over campus and I just love it when it blooms. I love the smell!

Hummingbirds! One summer I worked at a camp in the mountains above Ft. Collins, and there were a ton of hummingbirds about. If you stood very still next to the feeder with your finger next to one of the red flowers like a perch, they would land on you and drink. We played a game trying to see how far away from the feeder we could carry them before they flew back to it - usually only an inch or so. They're incredibly tiny and light!

Ooooh! I've never heard of them doing that!
