Wuh?

So. First five minutes of Spaced. Am I supposed to understand what the hell is going on?

Same scene with different people. A new scene with the same people but who look different, and is repeated over and over...

This is Confuse A Cat Ltd., isn't it?

*gets a headache and wanders off*

I LOVE SPACED.

Seriously, the entire style is like that. It usually makes little to no sense. That's why it's so unbelievably awesome. <3333

Maybe I need to be drunk? :D

[identity profile] kalleah.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
... or something.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Heh!

[identity profile] principia-coh.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
You need to stick with it. It will start to make sense by the rules of its own internal logic.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe when I'm in a more patient mood.

[identity profile] madeelly.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
xD I was perfectly sober, but maybe I'm naturally high...?

[identity profile] okelay.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
don't worry, confusion is perfectly normal. you get used to it after a while

[identity profile] claidissa.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Er.

Are you on episode 1? The beginning is Simon Pegg's character getting dumped by his girlfriend, and Jessica Hynes' character "breaking up" with a homeless man, then giving him some change. You're supposed to think that Hynes was talking to Pegg.

[identity profile] ginamak.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
What she said. Seriously, keep watching. It's brilliant. It also helps if you're ever so slightly obsessed with the pop culture of the 80s and 90s.

[identity profile] slaygirl4303.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
Spaced is arguably the best comedy tv show ever. You have to at least make it to the episode when Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes characters dog is stolen (its freakin' classic!)

Chiming in to also say that Spaced is pretty much the.best.show.EVAR. No joke, for four years running we've had Spaced marathons at our place. Everyone comes over, we have British food and we sit and watch 7 hours of awesome. And it just stays as hilarious as ever. The first ep is fun, but really it just gets better after that...so if you're not feeling it right now, you will.

The references are so awesome and plentiful there's actually a subtitle track that is just to tell you everything that's being referenced! Love. It!

SPACED! \o/

[identity profile] the-willows.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
Spaced is every kind of awesome. Every kind. It even invented some new kinds of awesome. You have to sit down and devote every ounce of your attention to it so you don't miss a single brilliant thing. :D

It's their subtle way of showing how Tim and Daisy's lives are reflective of each other and therefore are destined to be intertwined. There's a classic moment of this when they're discussing getting Colin. :)

The bit where it looks like all the same moments over and over is them (as Julie Andrews so nicely sings along) getting to know each other day by day as they sit in the cafe and seperately flat hunt. It's the requesite montage sequence. :)

Honestly, stick with it and if you start getting confused, just play the 'which movie is this a homage too?' game till your brain catches up. :)

There are enough words to describe how much a frakkin *love* this show, but I just am not that educated or eloquent! ;)

It really does start to make more sense as you get into it. Either that, or you become as nutty as everyone in the show. Either way, you're in for a treat :-)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I did have to laugh at the "I cried at the end of Terminator 2." Simon Pegg rocks. I've been looking forward to seeing him again.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Mwah!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! That's what I thought! And then I didn't know if we were jumping around in timelines or if time was resetting or if it was an alternate universe (I've no idea what "Spaced" is really about). And then when they started jumping around with the same scene in the restaurant, I got even more confused.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe I'll pop a Xanax and hit play. :D

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to say that I did laugh in the first 5 minutes with the Terminator joke, but then I got confused and annoyed. I'll have to try again.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
:D

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll have to give it another go. :)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, that makes sense. My problem is that I didn't know what they were going for, combined with the fact that I read "part X-Files" on the label and so started thinking that it was some kind of weird time thing going on, or maybe alternate universes or something. And then I got annoyed. :D

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
*snickers* I'll try again.

[identity profile] pro-hominum.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? Part X-files? Um... someone got that bit wrong!

It is mentioned, but only because Tim is ever so slightly obsessed with Gillian Anderson in a bedroom recreational sense. *cough* ;)

No time travel, just *alot* of movie references and plenty of laughs. :D

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha! Yeah, Netflix says it's a cross between The Simpsons, The X-Files and Northern Exposure.

So I was expecting something really out there.

[identity profile] pro-hominum.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I can see why! That's quite a range of shows! :D

I'm trying to think of the best way to describe Spaced....*ponders*

Bit random, very funny sit com not filmed infront of a live studio audience. Excellent watching as a drinking game for the movie references.

*reads what I've written*

Huh! Really doesnt' do it justice. Told you I wasn't eloquent! ;)
