Okay, I'm not all that emotionally invested in this show, but even I feel emotionally drained after that. I spent most of the episode in a sickened, tense state, thinking that RTD could actually send all or some of those kids away to be drugs for these aliens. (How sick was that? It wasn't even something they needed, it was just to get high.) And then Jack choosing to sacrifice his grandson for the rest of the planet? I'm thinking that was 100 times more painful than getting blown up. He just looked downright empty at the end. :(
It doesn't surprise me that Jack left Earth. After all, the reason he had been hanging around so long in the first place was to find the Doctor again. That had been his big goal. After that was accomplished, he came back for his team. But now...all but Gwen are dead, and she would be better off without Torchwood with a baby on the way. Jack's daughter will never want to see him again. Ever. So, nope. Not surprised he left Earth at all.
It was nice that Gwen mentioned the Doctor. Sometimes RTD's pretty good at predicting what the audience will be thinking, and then calling it out. (Like Martha in S3 thinking the Doctor and the Master were brothers.)
This pretty much ended Torchwood as we know it. I guess they could have a S4 with all new characters, or Jack could come back, or Jack could go to 2150 Torchwood or something.
Bye, Torchwood. (For now.) You went out with a bang.

Does that make it worse then if the children were going to be slaves or food?
Cause an eternity as a drug sorce......that is just wrong/sick/unnecessary.

SO INSTEAD OF DWELLING ON IT, I am now amusing myself by imagining Jack randomly showing up in the alt!verse. He'd sit down at their kitchen table and cry on Rose's shoulder while the Doctor stood awkwardly off to the side, thinking about how HE GOT OUT OF DINNER WITH JACKIE and still wasn't getting shagged.

Very depressing. Like it was mentioned on my flist, BSG only wishes it was this dark.

Bwahahahahahaha!
Jack: *SOBS*
Rose: *petpetpet* Would some sex help?
Doctor: *CHOKES*
Rose: What? Just a little sex. Just to make him feel better.
Doctor: Yeah, Jack tries anything and his head'll be in a tank!
