I splurged and bought some lump crab meat to use this coming Friday. Only thing is I'm not quite sure what to do with it. Can anyone point me to any NOM NOM NOM recipes?
Also, I've wound up with a lot of corn. Anyone have a good raw corn salad recipe? I'm getting tired of corn on the cob.
Oh, and DT and JB kissed and fandom went "SQUEEEEEE!!" If you want to watch, it's here. And if you're like me and can't handle listening to 100000000 screaming fangirls (HOLY CRAP, I AM SO NEVER GOING TO A CON), pick it up at about 4:45 for the kiss. JB's reaction makes it. XD
lol. I remember when I went to a Stargate con in 2006 and the guy that played Baal (I can't remember his name) took off his shirt, and the fangirls went CRAZY.
The DT and JB kiss (although, it wasn't much of a kiss, despite how much fandom is flailing over it) was brilliant! JB's reaction really WAS the best thing ever! But I, also, couldn't stand the screaming fangirls. I also got stabbity feelings towards RTD when I saw him, so I HAD to fastforward.
I love how everyone on DW/TW seems to be secure enough to go around snogging everyone to satisfy the fans!

*nods* It was the most unromantic kiss, like ever (not even a pretend romantic kiss), but the reaction totally made it.

I've decided my idea of a "con" is getting together with a group of people, drinking, watching and talking about a show. :D

JB is a thirteen-year-old fangirl himself, I am almost certain.
Any of the Tuna Helper packages are pretty good with lump crab. Or crab cakes and find a recipe for some sauce to go with it. Or make a cobb salad with all that corn and use crab instead of chicken.

TOTALLY.

(I've got a raw corn salad recipe I'll see if I can find. It's tasty)
I love the kiss. Everyone over in the Twitter verse was calling it a "make-out", but it was fantastic! It looks as if David's been such a tease this weekend.
Since you're in CA, you should make your way to the Gallifrey convention. I only say that because CC is HUUUUUUGE, and Gallifrey is 1)all about Who, and 2)MUCH smaller, so don't let CC put you off cons. And besides, it's an EPIC time<3

I'll always take good recipes! :)

No kidding! Telling people he'd go nude and so on. Someone's having fun! XD

But at a Who-only convention I'd be afraid I'd be beaten up by the fourth graders the classic Who fans!
I've been going to Gallifrey for three years, and never one been beat up ;) Then again, I like to stay on the nice happy side of fandom away from the masses, so ya' know. Seriously, I think over my three years, only had one bad experience where I've really regretted being there. It's a really fun welcoming weekend.
This is my sald recipe where you could put your corn in. I think it's delcious, so I hope it's something that strikes your fancy.
1 15 ounce can of whole kernal corn(wish I could tell you what exactly this means with your corn)
1 cup diced jicama 1/2 cup chopped onion 2 15 ounce cans black beans, rinsed and drained 2 tablespoons fresh cilanto, chopped
Dressing: 1/4 cup red wine vinegar 3 tablespoons olive oil 3/4 to 1 tablespoon chili powder 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin 1 small clove garlic, minced 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
Prepare dressing. Pour over remaining ingredients and chill. Best made a day before serving. Keeps well.
Ooo, yes, I think that would make it even BETTER and it was very nom. I even used fake crab and it was still good. Oh, and I sauteed the onion first, because I like it that way best instead of semi-raw.
I used to hate onion of all stripes, but then I really got into Indian food and I could eat a whole red onion if it's cooked right. It's like candy, yum.
1) Try Alton Brown's Catfish Au Lait recipe. We've replaced the catfish with crab meat and shrimp before. (Salmon, too.) Over a little bit of pasta? OM NOM NOM.
2) Hmm. Can't help ya there. I'm no good with that.
3) I've watched that video a dozen or more times and I laugh EVERY TIME. It's the girlie scream when he gets back up that does it to me.
1) Oooh! That looks really easy! And I've got tons of Costco frozen salmon in the freezer! I noticed in the comments that some people found the sauce to be too thin. What's your take?
I actually like it. I don't like a heavy sauce because I'll mix it all up with pasta before serving. If you're having it on it's own, I can imagine the sauce is a bit thin. My only complaint is that it's a very delicate thing. You just have to be very careful with the heat. The milk can go from smooth to grainy very quickly if you over-simmer. The very second you see bubbles, turn the heat down.
Corn- corn on the cob is completely different and completely fantastic if you grill it. Peel back the shucks, remove silks, wash, coat in a bit of butter, pull the shucks back up. Grill for a few minutes and wowzers. Really good with a bit of salt and chili powder, too.
For salad, I mix equal parts corn, black beans, and basmati rice. Add some diced onion, lime juice, and a 1/2 and 1/2 blend of ranch dressing and salsa. Nummy. There's a mystery author who writes recipes in his books, he includes a recipe something like that in every book because it's so popular.
Speaking from my vast experience of attending 2 cons, they're fun, but I prefer the smaller settings. The Who/Stargate one I went to was very fun, new and old fans all got along beautifully. Everybody was just enjoying being with other fans. The biggie, DragonCon, could be a wee bit overwhelming (especially the sessions with big name stars) but there were also always smaller group things going on. I don't do well with crowds, but the con suite was generall very uncrowded when needed breathing room. But yeah, it's probably not for everyone.

Mmmmmmmm! (Although this is all pre-shucked corn, so can't do that with these.)

Oooh, that sounds yummy! I love corn in southwest dishes!

Crabcakes really aren't hard, if you don't mind getting your hands dirty. Mix it all up, grab a glob and throw it in the pan. Cook a bit, flip it like a pancake, and voila! ____
Wrap the corn in aluminum foil with a few holes poked in it, then grill. Almost as yummy. :) ____
Timegate was great fun, only a couple hundred people the whole weekend, only a couple dozen at most at a time in each room. Very relaxed. But once a year is enough for me.
Of course, I'm the weird costumer who likes to dress up but hates for people to take pictures of me!

I love cobb salad too, its what I always get at Chilis- and now they have this avocado ranch dressing that goes with it and it is AMAZING.

Hell, I think RTD does that. XD
