So I saw this blog that listed their top and bottom 5 favorite New Who eps. The 6th comment down and we get to a full blown Rose Tyler rant. Ding! Okay, so that's not unusual. In fact, it's pretty much expected any time there's something to do with DW.

A bit more unusual, I've heard tale of a Rose rant a mere 3 comments in on a Torchwood post. Ding ding! (Probably having to do with the cow cube and how Jack would have totally loved the cow cube and Ianto if not for Rose Tyler's general craptitude.)

But I'm curious. (And The Bored.) Where's the weirdest place you've run across a Rose rant? (I'm snickering at the thought of a long political discussion and suddenly - BOOM - a Rose rant.)

There was an ONTD post a while ago about the guy who plays Ianto -- I always get his name wrong, the two-first-name thing screws wiht my mind -- and it rather quickly turned into HOW MUCH DOES ROSE TYLER SUCK?

To be fair it was Torchwood-related and so Whoniverse related, so it should've been expected, I guess.

No. It was his letter or blog entry or whatever the hell about leaving Torchwood and COE and blah blah.

The chain of discussion went like
"OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY KILLED IANTO BAW"
"OMG I KNOW, IF RTD KILLS ANOTHER CHARACTER I WILL BE SO PISSED!"
and then I pretty much remember this one word for word beacuse of the "......." it inspired in me, anyway someone was like, "Not even if it was Rose Tyler? And she was eating her own liver?"
and then like 62936926 people agreed that obviously this would be awesome and omg why is she such a Mary Sue~ and HOW COME DONNA DIDN'T GET A HAPPY ENDING BUT ROSE GETS A STUPID CLONE!!! etc etc. My favourite part about JE is how half of the Rose fans don't think it was happy enough for her and half the Rose haters think it was too happy.

To which I say on the one hand, girl cooties have been all up in your scifi for decades so get the f*** over it, and on the other, the Doctor is never going to be your boyfriend so get the f*** over it.

Of course, my favorite wank is probably the Rose-haters who didn't know how to react to JE and eventually took to informing D/R fans that it wasn't a happy ending or even one that proved that the Doctor had any romantic interest in Rose whatsoever SO THERE.

Maybe part of it is a backlash against how many people do like her? Or that sin of having the Doctor like her. I dunno.

I can understand simply not liking a character, but I don't understand the hate she inspires.

That's because she is the one the Doctor loves and since those idiots can't hate the Doctor, then they hate his love interest. It happens in every fandom, most of the time from UC fans who ship a character (say character A) with character D but the canon has character A in love with character B. So lots of hatred towards character B.

It's just how it works, on online forums and fandoms. People really believe that they OWN the characters and feel betrayed, angry if the character they adore doesn't go the path THEY want him to take. Those fans didn't want the Doctor in love? So they hate the love interest, not the Doctor. The doctor was in love but not with the character they wanted? They hate the love interest and not the Doctor.

Been there, done that in every damn fandom I have had the misfortune to set a foot in. It just never fails.


Well, at least, even when Rose isn't there, she isn't forgotten! Three years after Doomsday and she is still THE ONE those idiots talk about.

The one I'm most bitter about is the link to the "behind the scenes picspam" which I did not realize was done by a Ten/Donna shipper and was basically like "LOOK AT HOW AWESOME DAVID AND CATHERINE ARE... and lol that stupid Rose." I was confused.
