Countdown to Christmas: 4

Last time on Doctor Who...

The Doctor lost Rose.

And then he un-lost Rose.

And then he was completely hot.

Rose agreed.

And now, The Parting of the Ways...

I'm not really a CE or DT fangirl, but sometimes they do things that are very "RAWR!" This is one of those times. RAWR.

The Doctor zooms over without a word and pulls Rose into a hug.

Just AWWWWWWWWWW! To me this little scene showed just how much he cares about her.

Once he's hugged it out, then he can go back to pretending everything's a lark.

Awwwww. Rose and Jack hug.

Doctor: 'sup, bitches?

Oh, Doctor. He's barely keeping it together. You know, this is exactly why he needs people around. Could you imagine him facing this on his own? It would have looked very differently.

Rose: YO. MY TIME LORD. GET YOUR OWN.

Oh, Jack. Never stop being you. XD

Jack: So, threesome before we do this?
Rose: Seriously? Erm...well...
Doctor: There's not a chance in hell. Off you go then!

Rose: *is naturally awesome*
Doctor: *is still seeing hearts and ponies around her*

Betrayal in 5, 4, 3, 2...

1.

Rose does not approve.

This scene gets me way more than even his regeneration scene. Telling her to have a fantastic life for him makes me sniff.

Rose gets ripped a lot for this scene - that she's being selfish and needed to think of her family and just GO HOME. That meta makes me blink a LOT. Show me a person who has refused the perfect job offer across the country, just so that they could stay with mom and dad (barring health issues), and I'll show you a person who's not very well adjusted.

There seemed to be a thought that in order for Rose to grow up, she needed to go back to Jackie. And...that's such a huge disconnect from life, reality, and everything, I don't even know where to begin.

Universe: GET IT?
Rose: Oh hey!

I love that Mickey and Jackie are the ones who ultimately help (and convince) Rose she needs to go back. Yeah, they want Rose to come back and have a normal, safe life, but ultimately they realize that's just not her. And they do what family is supposed to do - support each other.

And the Doctor can't kill everything again. There are times that I can't quite get my head around this and the somewhat similar attitude in "Journey's End." Yes, the Doctor is ANTI GENOCIDE. And that's very very good. But...when faced with the inevitable results of inaction (barring any deus ex machina), it doesn't make a lot of sense. Other than the Doctor is really messed up when it comes to this.

In the end, it seems a very selfish act. The Doctor doesn't want the responsibility on his shoulders and so chooses death to avoid it. If there hadn't been that little deus ex machina, the Daleks would have wiped out the universe. So...I have a hard time getting my head around the Doctor's thought process. Like I said above, I guess he's just really messed up.

DEUS EX TARDIS. :D

Rose: *GLOWS AND FLOATS*
Doctor: OMG, YOU CAN DO THAT? Hmmm. Must remember that for myself...

"I want you safe, my Doctor." This is something I could probably write a giant meta on. *pets them both*

Ruh roh, Raggy. It seems many times in New Who there's a cost for doing something. Here the cost for saving the Doctor is to doom Jack.

"I think you need a doctor." HEE HEE! That's so cheesy and perfectly the Doctor. XD

*sighs* That kiss. I've heard it said that that kiss was about the Doctor letting go of the Time War. Although over the years we find out that the Time War hasn't let go of him. Maybe it'd have been different if he'd been able to hang on to Rose, but...

Awwww! So tender!

So typical of the Doctor. Something's wrong and he's telling jokes.

I love his parting "you were fantastic and so was I" line. :) :)

*KERSPLODE*

Hello! I still remember thinking he looked so terribly goofy and was really hoping he'd be decent at it. :D

YOUR POSTS KEEP MAKING ME WANT TO META IN RESPONSE BUT I AM TOO LAZY.

INSTEAD I SHALL JUST SQUEE.

SQUEEEEEE

I do love BW/TPotW.

XD XD

I'm half-tempted to do metas myself, but then I think that I have to have already done them at one point or another.

Eh, maybe later on I'll just write stuff up, and tell people to ignore the fact that I'm probably repeating myself.

One of the things I love about CE and DT, in relation to Rose, is how they conjure up the way their Doctor look at her. *melts*

That scene where he says "But you can ask." Oh man. She already messed up in 1987 and here at the end of the Time War, he'd still be like 'your wish is my command'. The Doctor is in way too deep.

One thing I miss about Nine is how he cradles Rose's head or face if he gets the chance, because as much as Ten hugs her a lot, he doesn't do this. And that kiss on the forehead? I don't think that's the only time he did that.

I didn't know Rose gets ripped apart for wanting to go back to the Doctor? That is unbelievable!! In real life, your parents throw you out so you can be independent and do some good. How is this different? Jackie's a single parent and of course, she worries about her teenage daughter but I think, deep inside, she knows she has to let go some time. She realizes in the end that this is that time.

Awwwww.... the way Nine caressed her face after that kiss? Oh man... unbelievable. This two are just unbelievably epic.

You are making me really chatty with your picspams. But thank you so much. They're all so heartbreakingly beautiful, so far. Can't wait for the next few days.

TOTALLY. He's mentally off skipping in a field of daisies. :D

He's more tender with her. It seems a bit more cautious. Like he wants to pick her up and swing her around, but he's holding back. It ends up being a lot softer and more gentle.

I totally agree. DW fandom is a strange place.

This ep

Especially hugging and kissing and breaking the law of time to save each other <3
"I think you need a doctor." HEE HEE! That's so cheesy and perfectly the Doctor.
Ah, but the way he says it Rawr, just Rawr *nomnomnom*

Awwww! So tender!

Aww, yeah, personal favourite of mine <333

There seemed to be a thought that in order for Rose to grow up, she needed to go back to Jackie.
So that the Doctor died and Jack never came back from dead and there were NO TORCHWOOD whose actually fandom consists mostly of Rose-haters? *roll eyes*

Awww, Nine. I started watching Doctor Who because everyone was raving about the mertis of Ten (and Ten is amazing), but I started at Series One and was completely enthralled by Nine. I was just utterly surprised and blown away by how much I loved him!

When he regenerated, I felt like a very dear friend had moved to Siberia or something. I honestly moped about the house for days. I tried to like Ten, and he was cute and charming, but he just wasn't *my* doctor (at least, until Impossible Planet/Satan Pit).

I think I'm going to have to rewatch some series one episodes now! :)

Awwwwww! I love them both in their own ways, but Nine was really special. :)

I like that so many of your favorite Doctor/Rose episodes are my favorites, too. And I love, love, love this one.

Just AWWWWWWWWWW! To me this little scene showed just how much he cares about her.

I love the way they just… hold each other, if you know what I mean. They sort of melt into each other. There’s so much passion and so much tenderness and I just SHIP THEM SO HARD OMG.

This scene gets me way more than even his regeneration scene. Telling her to have a fantastic life for him makes me sniff.

The part that always gets to me is when he tells her to let the Tardis die. “Let it become a strange little thing standing on a street corner.” (I wonder if that’s why the Tardis was so willing to listen when Rose finally got her open.)

Rose gets ripped a lot for this scene—that she’s being selfish and needed to think of her family and just GO HOME.

I’ll never understand that. But then, I don’t think I’ve ever loved Rose more than I did when she was telling Jackie and Mickey that she couldn’t just stand aside and let the Daleks kill everyone. “The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.”

There’s a lot more I want to say about this episode, but at the moment all I can do is stare at the picture of the Doctor/Rose kiss and sigh. I just love them so much.

Yes! Definite clinging going on there, not just hugging.

That whole thing...yeah. He's trying to keep safe the two girls he loves the most in the world. (Well, I say "girls"...) And I have the feeling that the TARDIS and Rose were of a single mind about the whole thing even without any blending.

I’ll never understand that. But then, I don’t think I’ve ever loved Rose more than I did when she was telling Jackie and Mickey that she couldn’t just stand aside and let the Daleks kill everyone. “The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.”

It always seems to me to be the moment when she did grow up. Before that she was trying to keep feet in both worlds - not really able to let go of where she came from. But this is the moment where she decides what her life will be.

There’s a lot more I want to say about this episode, but at the moment all I can do is stare at the picture of the Doctor/Rose kiss and sigh. I just love them so much.

Awwwwwwww.

I'm one of those that find CE rather hot - I can't explain it but I do :)

The scene where he hugs Rose = me!happy.

The bit where he leans against the door in despair does funny things to me :)

I really, really don't understand the Rose Hate. I read the other day that someone honestly believed that she was toxic for the Doctor and thinks she was unbelievably selfish. I JUST DON'T GET IT.

Translation: the Doctor is not allowed to actually love one person more than another, and so I'm going to square peg a round hole meta-wise.

I hope this makes sense to someone besides me...

Nine is such a great Doctor and Christopher Eccleston does such a wonderful job playing him, but I fully admit to Ten being "my Doctor", as they say.

That being said, whenever I watch series one, I get so caught up in the story and the characters and the acting that I kind of forget about Ten entirely. I get to Nine's "You were fantastic" speech and I get so caught in the sadness and beauty and bittersweetness of the moment that I COMPLETELY FORGET he's about to turn into Ten. Then he explodes, Ten shows up, and I'm sitting there going, "Hey, wait, I think I know that guy...". Christopher Eccleston is such a good actor he actually (momentarily) MAKES ME FORGET DAVID TENNANT EXISTS. That takes some serious skill. I mean SERIOUS.

And this is why Doctor Who is such an amazing show.

The End. :-D

Oh, also, I kinda get where people are coming from when they say Rose is kind of selfish. Or at least comes across that way to her family. As a viewer it's completely obvious why Rose can't just stay home with her family, there's so much STUFF to see, and we get to see it with her! But Jackie and Mickey don't get to see any of it. All they know is that Rose disappeared without a trace for an entire year leaving Jackie heartbroken and Mickey accused of murder, popped home for a day, gave a somewhat vague explanation (even after Jackie found out about the Doctor and the TARDIS), and then ran off again with the Doctor. I get Jackie and Mickey being kind of pissed off and hurt by the way Rose behaves. They want what's best for her, but they're afraid Rose will shove them aside and forget about them completely, and I think she's kind of given them reason to worry about it.

I am totally not a Rose hater, but I do see the selfish aspects in her character. I don't think it's really a bad thing, it gives her more dimension, makes her more real. Characters without flaws are boring.

If I'd gone into it more, I'd have gotten into more of what you're saying. I totally agree with you that Rose is selfish in certain ways. And Jackie and Mickey do have a valid reason to be worried for her. A bit tied to that flaw is her jealousy.

But it drives me nuts when the first thing people do to describe Rose is call her selfish, as if that's her main trait. That's...wow.

Aww, yeah. I think what they really want most for each other is to be safe and happy... which is a pretty unselfish thing, when you get right down to it.

Other than the Doctor is really messed up when it comes to this.

BWAH! I think the Doctor is messed up about a lot of things, but especially the genocide thing. Probably exploding your own race does that. Though I still want to smack Ten for the "blood and anger and revenge" line. Bitch please.

Hello! I still remember thinking he looked so terribly goofy and was really hoping he'd be decent at it. :D
