I finally broke down and watched Sherlock, and I really really liked it! The first episode was by far the best, and made me realize I love Moffat's Sherlock way more than Moffat's Who. I'm especially surprised since the Sherlock Holmes mythology has never interested me, and I tend to wrinkle my nose at modern interpretations of anything.

  • Sherlock has a Time Lord google maps brain! HA!

  • Moriarty is 100% annoying. I'm really hoping that he's not Moriarty and is just a front.

  • John/Sherlock OTP forever! XD

It is a fun show. I had some problems with it when I watched it because I somehow became one of those annoying people with thesis-level knowledge and analysis (why god why) and couldn't let the books go, but I am more at peace with it nwo and looking forward tot he next series. I'm really hoping that the girl from the lab is actually Moriarty, I like the Mollyarty theories that were going around.

orange_crushed wrote a really good high school AU of it that I highly recommend, if you are into that sort of thing and even if you aren't because it is totally adorable.

:D I'm glad I don't have an in depth knowledge of Sherlock Holmes. I imagine a lot would irk me.

The girl from the lab. Hmmm. That could be interesting.

And I might have to check that out. *is curious*

The Dangerous Book for Boys, I found the link. Oh, these boys are just the best ♥ ♥ (and it all sort of inspires me to try to write another part for my own Eleven & Amy kids' adventure AU).

Sherlock is fun. The problem I have with it is just like a lot of Moffat's Who episodes- I watch it again and get hit in the face with some very nasty sexist and bigoted stereotypes. >_<

It's not as bad as his Who, though. Gatiss is probably helping there.

I think one thing that helps is that the focus is inward - what's going on in Sherlock's brain. With DW you can't help but notice how the Doctor interacts with people and the people themselves. In Sherlock most secondary characters (and much contemplation about them) is waved off, often by Sherlock himself.

Yes! This is definitely the right place for that kind of writing.

Their landlady makes the perfect finishing touch to that whole 221B Baker Street scene!

I haven't watched any of this, for the same reason that I don't really watch Doctor Who anymore. I have a really hard time divorcing Moffat from his work, so I have an even harder time enjoying any of that work. But maybe I'll give it a shot.

You could give it a shot. I was skeptical going in, but was pretty well hooked about half way in.

NEVER GO IN AGAINST A SICILIAN WHEN DEATH IS ON THE LINE!

I enjoyed Sherlock. I tend to forget this, in amongst my general irritation with Moffat, but I did like it.

XD

Yeah, I sort of like to ignore he exists when watching this.

Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

I am the only person in the world who didn't like it.

WELL I liked the first episode, took a week to watch the second episode, and gave up about 15 minutes into the third episode. :p

Unfortunately this also means the only one I legitimately enjoyed was the one Moffat wrote.

It helps that I'm a sucker for British murder mysteries, even though I've never really liked Sherlock Holmes before.

I have such a bad attention span that generally I require OOH SOMETHING SHINY/SOMETHING BLOWING UP/LOVE TRIANGLES to stay focused on what is happening in front of me.

I HAVE TERRIBLE TASTE IN TV IN EVERY WAY. D:

I've given you Slings & Arrows! It has...dead bodies!

[identity profile] goldy-dollar.livejournal.com 2011-05-12 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
You did! I might be watching Gossip Girl instead and hating myself. *HIDES*

*facepalm*

Well, I guess I can't talk too much. I get suckered in by things like Four Weddings and Pregnant in Heels. XD

LOL this comforts me greatly. You don't just watch smart BBC miniseries!

ISN'T SHERLOCK AMAZING???!!!

Seriously, after I watched it, I just kept thinking about it, and eventually I broke down and bought it. Benedict Cumberbatch is one of the most beautiful human beings I have ever seen.

:D I'm really looking forward to new episodes! *happily adds this to the list of my shows*
