The last of Downton Abbey for a while.

  • Mary: Can you manage without your stick?

    Matthew: You are my stick.

Me: ... BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! WORST. LINE. EVER.

  • LOL WAY TO KILL OFF THE COMPLICATION IN YOUR LOVE STORY. (And then slap on cakes of white makeup on Matthew so he looks like he's GRIEVING. )

  • AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I DIDN'T NEED TO SEE FURRY BATES CHEST. DAMN YOU, BRITISH TV. I STILL HAVEN'T FORGIVEN YOU FOR RHYS ASS.

  • People who suck:

    • Matthew for kissing Mary when Lavinia is off being sick. And then dumping a shitload of his guilt on Mary.

    • Robert for snogging the maid while Cora is off being sick, and ultimately costing the maid her job. (I'm sorry, but this instantaneous love connection between them has been baffling.)

    • Branson for being a douche. Okay, he did have his good moments in this episode, but all his alpha male bullshit makes my blood BOIL. I still want him to fall off a cliff. OOOH. MY CHRISTMAS SPECIAL WISH!

ETA: I'm still cracking up over that stick line! I had to do this!

LOLLLLLL

I mean, in context it's kinda sweet, meaning that he relies on her. But actually hearing it said... OMG

I really want Branson and Sybil to just stay in Dublin.

XD I just edited the post and gave the words to John and Sherlock.

But you just KNOW there will be Branson and Sybil drama to come. Bah.

NOOOOO. WHYYYY? ugh. I mean, Downton is the central character on the show. It'd be ridiculous for the show to follow them to Dumblin. The show barely followed Matthew to the trenches. The only scenes set there were really scenes setting up however he was going to end up at Downton again.

Maybe...Sibyl will get tired of Branson! And then he'll get all douchey and be all "STAY HOME AND MAKE ME SANDWICHES, WOMAN" and then she'll kick him in the balls. \o/

Ugh, I was so sick of Matthew in this episode, and also Lord Grantham. I actually have no strong feelings regarding Branson, but I loved DC McGonagall's spin on things. I actually hope that they have a boringly pleasant life. But that's so not going to happen with the Republic due to start soon. Maybe they can restrict the drama in that quarter to politics, instead of personal. :P I was sort of horrified-ded-ly delighted when the second person got sick in this episode and I realized that it was Spanish Influenza, and then was proved right.

Oooh. I forgot that was around the time of Ireland breaking off. It really wasn't pleasant to be there during that time. I wonder if they'll put that in the show.

People who suck:

Yep, agree on all accounts.

The episode left me frustrated and really underwhelmed. I hope the Christmas special will be better.

I thought it was pretty rushed. Like they were cramming in 100 different things...which they were.

I love to think of Sherlock and John giggling about it. XD

The melodrama on this show ... it's so bad it's good.

THIS.

I hope the next series will give some insight as to what is so attractive about Branson in Sybil's head, but hey, she gets to follow her dreams and be a nurse so that's pretty good.

I'm fairly convinced that if her family let her do whatever she want to start with, Branson really wouldn't be all that attractive to her. She's sort of trading being trapped in one place for being trapped in another.

[identity profile] meeshy.livejournal.com 2011-11-07 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I swear the maid was just a contrived plot point to make him accept Sybil's decision...

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2011-11-07 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
That makes the most sense. If you can use the word "sense." :D

LOL!

I really felt like this should have been two episodes. So much happened, but not in a "Vampire Diaries our lives are way too stressful" kind of way. Just a "the writer effed up and now he's got to tie up loose ends" kind of way ho hum. I did love that Lavinia schooled everyone but mostly Matthew with her kindness until the very end. "I heard you confess your cousin love and saw you kiss her, which just made me love you more, but please go be with her."

I read somewhere that the 3rd series will only cover a span of 18 months, which gives me more hope. Too much time = wackiness.

I totally agree! Many of the episodes felt like they were trying to quickly pack too much in. DO ALL THE THINGS. Like it really surprised me they zipped through the war so quickly.

And Lavinia was too good for this crew.

So...I just recently watched DA S1-2x08 (I still have to watch the Christmas special...so don't spoil me on that ;-) and wanted to read all those posts I'd previously had to skip.

I didn't mind the Matthew/Mary kiss, but Matthew was a total jerk later at the cemetary. And why does nobody ever mention that MARY took her time to nurse and care for Mathew when he wasn't even her fiance! Good grief. I liked Lavinia, but if you want your love to be happy after your death, saying something like "it's better this way" as you're DYING isn't exactly going to inspire him to move on. Also, Carlysle is a JERK - even if she thinks she'll never marry Matthew, why is she with such a loser? All he's done is threaten and try to spy on her! She cannot possible think this will end well.

(and the Robert/Lydia (the maid) storyline really bothered me. It seemed really predictable and unnecessary...and awkward).
