Once Upon a Time - through the finale: Overall fun show. I liked how they wound up the season with everyone remembering who they were "holy crap, I'm Cinderella!" and I hope it stays that way. (NGL 57% of this is so that Mary Margaret and David WILL DIE ALREADY. OR AT LEAST SHUT UP.) I'm crossing my fingers that the Lost folks learned their lesson about dragging things out forever and ever and ever. Stories like this need a timeline that's based on storytelling rather than network renewals. I still have never watched the last few episodes of Lost due to extreme indifference. ANYWAY. I'd definitely tune in next season. My guess is that next season will be filled with trying to find a way back to fairy tale land, with people being divided on wanting to stay or go. And then S3 would be set up for taking place in fairy tale land.
I'm not quite sympathetic to Regina yet. It's hard to excuse being a colossal murdering asshole even if your mother was a colossal murdering asshole. A few emo feels about one person doesn't bring people back from the dead! Or maybe it does. Hard to tell in this universe.
Community - through the finale: Actually I don't even remember what happened in the finale. Something about a fake Dean yada yada. But the 8-bit computer game episode was BRILLIANT. I watched it twice right after it aired (I'm becoming really addicted to Hulu Plus) and I'll probably watch it again. "NO WITNESSES." XD
Game of Thrones 2x08: Pretty much nothing happened in this episode, except for characters moving into different positions (presumably there's a knock-down drag-out battle(s) coming.) 1) Happy that Arya escaped with the dude that I'd ship her with 10 years from now. 2) Hope that Joffrey goes into battle because it will be hilarious. 3) Want Dragon Lady to go to the undying place because that storyline is being boring. 4) Brienne is still a horrible, horrible actress. I'm fairly convinced it's not just the writing. (I'm still confused as to how she wound up in the mix, given that there's quite a bit of stellar acting everywhere otherwise.)
Last week's episode of GoT was SO BAD. Regardless of the books, it was just so slow moving and such blatant filler. But having read the books, it was even worse. UGH. The show completely fucked up Cat and Robb's storyline and just. I HATE EVERYTHIIIIIING.
lol. If you think Dragon Lady's story is bad in the show... it's worse in the books. LMAO. The show actually changed some stuff to make her story more exciting. Although in the books, she just has fewer chapters vs on the show, they keep shoe horning her in with scene that don't really do anything.
I don't think Brienne's a bad actress! Idk. I can't verbalize it, but I think she's embodying the character and idk. Her acting just never stuck out one way or the other to me. Brienne is awkward and I think that Gwendoline captures that well.

Everything was just so bland, including that story.

They should just drop that storyline for a while if they're not going to do anything.

Every time I see her she just sticks out to me with her woodeness.
There are some major departures concerning WHEN things happen that had the result of altering how the characters behaved. SPOILERS FOR THE REST OF THE BOOKS BEHIND THE SPOILER CUT!
The way that Robb treated Cat? BOOK!ROBB WOULD NEVER HAVE DONE THAT. They gave Edmure's reaction to Robb, but just... NOPE. Shifting around the timeline in this story is doing NONE of the characters any favors. In the books it's really important Cat releases Jaime right after she gets the new of Bran and Rickon's deaths. Her actions are motivated by grief and by the desire to save her daughters. She can't stand by and not do anything anymore. Not when there's a chance that she could save her girls. She has lost two children and is not about to lose another, not if there's anything she can do about it.
AT THE SAME TIME, Robb marries Jeyne, ruining his alliance with the Freys because Jeyne comforts him while HE is grieving the loss of his brothers. Both Robb and Cat make strategically questionable decisions motivated by grief and love. So in the books when Robb finds out about Cat releasing Jaime, he's like "welp, we both did things that might not have been the best from a purely strategic point of view because of our grief, so I guess we're even?". Book!Robb would NEVER have placed Cat under arrest like that.
I am really angry because I feel like the show is encouraging us to agree with Robb and wants us to see Cat as a idiot or a hysterical woman who makes bad decisions which these rational men around her would never make!
Jaime is worth NOTHING dead, so yeah, maybe Lord Karstark wants vengeance for the deaths of his sons, but killing Jaime isn't going to bring his sons back. Sending an ALIVE Jaime to King's Landing might bring Cat's daughter's back to her.
Here's the scene in question between Robb and Cat in the books:
“Mother.” Catelyn looked up at her tall kingly son. “Your Grace, I have prayed for your safe return. I had heard you were wounded.” “I took an arrow through the arm while storming the Crag,” he said. “It’s healed well, though. I had the best of care.” “The gods are good, then.” Catelyn took a deep breath. Say it. It cannot be avoided. “They will have told you what I did. Did they tell you my reasons?” “For the girls.” “I had five children. Now I have three.” “Aye, my lady.” Lord Rickard Karstark pushed past the Greatjon, like some grim specter with his black mail and long ragged grey beard, his narrow face pinched and cold. “And I have one son, who once had three. You have robbed me of my vengeance.” Catelyn faced him calmly. “Lord Rickard, the Kingslayer’s dying would not have bought life for your children. His living may buy life for mine.” The lord was unappeased. “Jaime Lannister has played you for a fool. You’ve bought a bag of empty words, no more. My Torrhen and my Eddard deserved better of you.” “Leave off, Karstark,” rumbled the Greatjon, crossing his huge arms against his chest. “It was a mother’s folly. Women are made that way.” “A mother’s folly?” Lord Karstark rounded on Lord Umber. “I name it treason.” “Enough.” For just an instant Robb sounded more like Brandon than his father. “No man calls my lady of Winterfell a traitor in my hearing, Lord Rickard.” When he turned to Catelyn, his voice softened. “If I could wish the Kingslayer back in chains I would. You freed him without my knowledge or consent . . . but what you did, I know you did for love. For Arya and Sansa, and out of grief for Bran and Rickon. Love’s not always wise, I’ve learned. It can lead us to great folly, but we follow our hearts . . . wherever they take us. Don’t we, Mother?” Is that what I did? “If my heart led me into folly, I would gladly make whatever amends I can to Lord Karstark and yourself.” Lord Rickard’s face was implacable. “Will your amends warm Torrhen and Eddard in the cold graves where the Kingslayer laid them?” He shouldered between the Greatjon and Maege Mormont and left the hall. Robb made no move to detain him. “Forgive him, Mother.” “If you will forgive me.” “I have. I know what it is to love so greatly you can think of nothing else.” Catelyn bowed her head. “Thank you.” I have not lost this child, at least.
I understand a lot of the changes, but this is one that I really don't understand. Like Bran and Rickon are already "dead". There's no reason why that could not have been the motivation in the show as well.
Yes, a thousand times yes. I was railing at the screen: "THAT'S NOW HOW IT GOES!!!!" Robb and Cat have such a strong relationship, and the show completely undercut it with the last episode. And they completely mucked up the timeline of Cat releasing Jaime, thereby mucking up her character too - it's because she thinks Bran and Rickon are dead that she releases him, not (just) because they're captured. And Book!Robb would NEVER speak to her like that, NEVER EVER. Augh. And of course in the book scene, Robb neatly undercuts any protests Cat may have about his absolute stupidity by going "WE FOLLOW OUR HEARTS, MOM, RIGHT???" And Cat's semi-confused "...right..." is kind of perfect. But they've ruined that now, and it's immensely frustrating. TL;DR - I've been down with some of the changes they made, but this one is just NOT ON. No idea why they changed it, except to make us sympathize more with Robb than Cat. Which is just a whole other kettle of fish, but... yeah. Gah.
And I think Gwendoline Christie is doing a fab job as Brienne, as a woman in a man's world, trying to do "a man's work" and being roundly mocked for it. I'd like to see more of the shy!Brienne we get in the books, but we may yet, we may yet.
No idea why they changed it, except to make us sympathize more with Robb than Cat
I think you're right about that and it makes me really mad because UGH. I feel like the show is just trying to appease the fanboys who hate on Cat. Or maybe the show runners just really don't understand Cat as a character and her motivations or something.
Brienne is a pretty awkward person but she's also very proud, so Gwendoline's performance seems to fit the character. I do hope that in the future we get to see her softer side though.
I wouldn't be surprised if S2 is about getting back to the FTL but I also won't be all that surprised if they don't do that. I'm biased against the writers because of the epic *face!palm* that Lost became. Started with a bang and ended with the saddest of whimpers.
I'm hopeful? But I'll probably get burned. :D
I maintain the fact that Regina's anger is misplaced. She should have banded together WITH Snow to get back at her mother. Imagine that Snow's goodness blended with Regina's power and you've got the makings of one Kickass Good Fairy who doesn't just use tinkerbell magic dust to get her way. Since this didn't happen it would take A LOT for me to fell any sort of sympathy towards Regina.
Yeah, it was total misplaced anger, and it is a bit hard to excuse.
Also, Mary Margaret and David need their heads bashed in. That or HAVE A SHAG AND GET THE JITTERS OVER WITH. Jeeze.
could only be Rumple's son, right? Unless there are other yet-to-be-revealed fairy tale characters we haven't been introduced to yet.
Brienne's actress feels so wooden to me. idk if it's because she's doing it on purpose because that's how the character is, or it's just how she acts normally. & I'm too lazy to look up her other acting gigs to judge properly. XD

I hope so! That would be great!

I'm so behind the times ... your spoiler cuts are SO COOL!! (How do you do those?)
* OUAT - I thought it was a bit cold that we didn't get to see if August reverted to being a human XD Can you just imagine, his poor dad racing to his side, only to find him a stump?? D=
* GoT - I totally future!ship Arya and whats-his-name too XD And my husband and I were totally making inappropriate Downton Abbey jokes when Ygrette (or however you spell it) was onscreen. Twas quite fun =)

It's a snifty new thing LJ has! It's the tag lj-spoiler instead of lj-cut. (With the brackets, of course.)

I get the feeling that August's revival is going to be a plot point next year. Magic (and breaking his deal with the Blue Fairy) is what turned him wood so he will need magic to turn back. Maybe a deal with Rumpel this time if Blue isn't interested in helping!
I'm completely sure everyone is going to remember who they are! It couldn't have lasted much longer anyway and now we can deal with the real people and their real relationships instead of the fake Storybrooke people. The drama was too shallow since no one was real. I did like people becoming more themselves (like Snow ripping into Emma about running off with Henry) and the cat and mouse game Rumpel and Regina were playing but the rest I can do without. I'm basically going to scrub David from my memory. *g* It's Charming and only Charming for me.
I do love Regina but I'm not particularly sympathetic to her. Yes, she is not completely without human feelings but that doesn't change all the MURDERS she has committed to get her revenge. And I hope that they continue with the rule that dead is dead. (So far there is no bringing anyone back no matter what.) Once you start bringing people back deaths get a shrug since they won't ever stick.
