Olympics!

I guess NBC is airing the Olympics again, which means the opening ceremony will be pretty unwatchable. Not only will it be a delayed broadcast so they can add 2 hours of ads, but I'm guessing it'll be hosted by Bob "I MUST TALK OVER EVERY SINGLE THING THAT'S HAPPENING" Costas. BECAUSE IF A PERSON WALKS ACROSS THE FIELD WITH A BALLOON, I MUST INFORM EVERYONE OF THIS FACT.

Why can't they just point some cameras at it all and be done with it? It's like...like sitting in a theater and having the person next to you telling you exactly what's happening even though you're watching it as well. D:

I'm expecting my UK proxy server to justify what I pay for it many times over during the Olympics. I will be home all day everyday caring for an infant, awake at odd hours, with nothing better to do than sit around and watch the BBC coverage.

You'll get to watch the really odd sports! Like the hammer throw!

I know! I'm totally stoked! I love me some weird sports and one of the reasons I usually give up on watching network coverage is because there is only so much of people running around in a circle that I can stand. Bring on the sychronised swimming and equestrian!

I like the kayak slalom myself. :)

Man, I wish my work would set up a giant TV! :D

I doubt NBC cares that people hate the inane chatter. They'll just do it anyway.

YES THEY DO.

In theory (and this is something I read a while ago) the NBC website is supposed to be streaming stuff live. And the alternate networks are supposed to have a lot of live programming, but I'm not holding my breath. I went to look at the schedule today on NBC's website and ended up nearly throwing my laptop in frustration. I just wanted to know when the opening ceremonies were and on what channel, but the website would only give me a two hour window, so I had to know when what I wanted to watch was on. A-holes. How do they just keep getting it so wrong?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-07-24 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe they're hoping you'll just leave the tv on 24/7! Because we have nothing better to do than sit there and watch their ads.

OMG I KNOW!!! every 4 years we want to throttle Bob Costas! i wish ABC would get the rights to the olympics again like they had years ago, Jim mckay was the best announcer! i'm hoping this year though that since there is an nbc sports channel plus they are having it on more channels like cnbc and bravo even plus comcast has some specials where you can watch live online that we can see more. plus i'm just gonna watch it on the comp on whatever channel it's on in the uk lol

I'll probably try and watch it on the computer, although NBC will control all that too probably.

the opening ceremony begins at 730 et/pt on friday

*sighs* I wish it wasn't time delayed.

And from the sounds of it, the opening ceremony will be full of little Britishisms that will utterly confound whichever person is commentating. Which should be interesting.

Here in the UK, however, the BBC has created 24 HD channels on satellite TV to cover the entire games (I saw them this morning and was all '...'. I mean, I love the Olympics and will probably be making much use of those channels, but still...since those 24 HD channels are followed by the 24 non-HD versions, that is 48 channels dedicated to the Olympics). During Beijing, in comparison, they had 8 interactive multiscreens running. I don't think there will be a single second that isn't available to watch on UK TV (and since it's covered by the BBC, no ad breaks). I think they're aiming for the most comprehensive coverage ever.

I think that youtube will be streaming coverage, if you can't stand the NBC commentary, and I don't know if you can convince your way onto Eurosport's live feeds outside of Europe, but I think it might be possible.

I heard there will be sheep! :D

And I hope that NBC hasn't put a stranglehold on youtube so that people who are in the US can't watch. That would suck.

*cackles madly and dusts off her "SHUT UP, Bob Costas!" placard for easy waving*

XD I need me one of those!

I loved it when the Olympics were in Salt Lake City and NBC insisted on showing everything time delayed on the West Coast. Never mind we're in the same time zone as SLC. ARRRRRRGH. I am still incredibly bitter about that.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-07-24 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
YES. THAT WAS SO STUPID. WHY, NBC? BAH.

Accurate description is accurate. I swear that man gets worse every time I hear him.

UGH. He'll be 80 and still narrating, I'm afraid. :P

[identity profile] iolausian.livejournal.com 2012-07-26 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
I think the whole solution is just to have David Tennant do all the voice work for the Olympics. Yes. That's it. :) Heheh.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-07-26 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
I would totally watch that. :D
