Olympics

I can't decide if I care to watch the opening ceremonies for the Olympics. On the one hand it's like "yay, global event!" On the other...meh. Maybe I'll check out the flist to see if there was anything cool that happened before tuning in. We should be getting it hours after it happened anyway. Wonder if we'll have the same thing as last time where the announcers talked over EVERY MINUTE of the ceremony. I can understand them doing that over the parade of nations which can be amusing in its inanity...

"And here we have the United Kingdom who's known for their fish and chips."

"That's right, Jim. And did you know they're also a part of Europe?"

"They are? I thought they were an island, Steve."

But don't talk over the speeches! Or musical numbers! It's damn annoying.

Oh God. I just remembered. This means [livejournal.com profile] nandamai and [livejournal.com profile] poohmusings will be talking incessantly about ice skating for the next couple of weeks. Oy.

If it helps any they currently have cows on wheels being towed around in a kind of cow dance.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! OMG. Okay, I think I have to see that.

Every Olympic opening is about mocking...the cow dance was a good exsample;)

I really had no idea Italy was so into cows. This should be good. :D

Oh God. I just remembered. This means nandamai and poohmusings will be talking incessantly about ice skating for the next couple of weeks. Oy.

Heh. We've been doing that for weeks already. :)

Be glad I have exactly no time for Olympics-watching this month, or you'd be getting it from three corners. Still may, actually...

*gets out chair and whip*

Eee! Figure skating. *bounces* Though, really, to me the most interesting part is whether or not Michelle Kwan will crash and burn...again. I have Kwan issues stemming from as far back as my young childhood. *sighs*

But more importantly! Hockey. *dances*

Though I won't be watching the opening ceremonies. Two hours of Arrested Development, followed by BSG, followed by Instant Star season premiere, with a little hockey game between BSG and IS. *headexplodes*

Sounds like my TV lineup (except for that Instant Star thingie.) :)

[identity profile] littledivinity.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
hee. Instant Star is just the worst teen Canadian import of all time. So of course I have to watch. Truly, truly badfic on TV.

HA!

Well, I'll be talking about speed skating, because my cousin is on the Canadian team.

Or are you talking about the people spinning around? The drama gets entertaining -- a wicked part of me wants to see Michelle Kwan fall on her ass again. ;)

Woah, COOL!

HA! Actually, that's pretty much the only time I'm entertained by it all.

[identity profile] mylo1012.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
as one speedskate fan to another, who is your cousin?

[identity profile] cheekygal.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Kristina Groves. I found her performance statistics online.

She'll be skating on Sunday from 3-6. I will, of course, be at work, so the VCR will be taping for me!

[identity profile] mylo1012.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
didnt her mother skate very fast also? (or was that cindy klassen)

(Anonymous) 2006-02-10 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm. I don't think my Aunt Else has ever been a competetive speed skater.

[identity profile] cheekygal.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Ack. That was me, as if you couldn't tell. I thought I was still logged in!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh neat!! I may even have to tune in and cheer for her! :)

[identity profile] hyari.livejournal.com 2006-02-11 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Awh...I really want her to win! I am *desperate* for her to win! My emotional involvement in this reaches fandom-ish proportions: hopefully there will be much phlaming and wankery around the competition.

Because that's what the Olympics Movement is all about. *nod*
