Captain's journal. Stardate, uh... February 13th...point two.

You know those posts you start and then change your mind about posting? For those of you interested, basically it boiled down to the fact that I have lettuce/sandwich issues.

ETA: I have just eaten chocolate dog lips.

ETA2: What's the etymology of "lettuce?" It's starting to look weird. And French.

Are you pro or anti lettuce?

I am anti-lettuce. Well, lettuce salads are good. Lettuce on sandwiches? No. Just no.

Sister! I have long hated lettuce on sandwiches. I've gotten to the point where I can tolerate it on cold sandwiches, but I never put it on there myself. But for me, lettuce on hot sandwiches (especially burgers - yuck!) is completely disgusting and potentially worth throwing away the whole sandwich over, especially if combined with mayonnaise.

Oooh, do you also have an unnatural loathing of Phil Collins songs? Because we may have been separated at birth!!

Nope, sorry. Although I'm not particularly fond of him, either.

ORIGIN Middle English : from Old French letues, laitues, plural of laitue, from Latin lactuca, from lac, lact- ‘milk’ (because of its milky juice).

It is French! And milky juice - I'm never eating lettuce again.

Wait. I thought you were anti-celery. Now you're anti-lettuce, too?

Although I happen to agree with you when it comes to sandwiches. If one comes with lettuce on it, I generally remove it. Sometimes, if it's shredded lettuce, a few shreds get left and that is marginally okay. So yes, I eat bacon and tomato sandwiches rather than BLTs...

I'm only anti-lettuce on sandwiches. And I also eat BTs!

Lettuce should stay in salads, where it belongs.

Lettuce on sandwiches is not good. If the sandwich is hot, the lettuce gets wilted and disgusting If it's cold, then it pulls all the other topping out of the sandwich right when your teeth sink into it. And if it's from Subway, the lettuce comprises fifty percent of your sandwich, which is just wrong.

I suppose lettuce would be at home at tiny sandwiches made of white bread, with the crust cut off and cut into four cut little triangles, but only as a sad substitute for, say watercress. Poor lettuce. It is much better suited for salads, and sometimes a delicious rice wrap.

....Apparently I have lettuce/sandwich issues, too.

Yes, yes and YES.

Lettuce shouldn't even try.

Lettuce is good as a wrap with stuff like chicken in it.

As well you should.
