Evolution of the Daleks
- Oh, man. So the Doctor offered up his life for the people behind him, which isn't unusual. But it was the *way* he did it. "DO IT! DO IT! JUST DO IT!! DO IT!" Like the round and round cars in Gridlock, the Daleks always survive when he loses everything. And it seemed like he just wanted it all to stop. :(
- Heh. Davros mention. Well, they didn't actually say his name.
- Couldn't *exactly* figure out why the Doctor was helping to create a new race. That whole reasoning is a bit fuzzy in my mind. And I thought it was a solar flare that was supposed to give power to these people, but lightning did it?
- The Doctor's really got a problem with his screwdriver this series. Must. Not. Make. Jokes.
- The red shoes! Okay, the TARDIS makes stuff. *nods*
- Yeah. Why...why've they got the humandalek chained up like a pet?
- So we wind up with human-dalek-Time-Lords? But they're killed anyway, so trying to figure out their genetic makeup is probably just a waste of time.
- And the Dalek escapes. Right. So, money on the finale?
- Overall, it was...okay. Kinda doubt I'll be needing to see this episode again. Think I was too confused by motivations, and the insta-"humanity is wonderful and we must give up our war-like ways!" by the humandalek was a bit trite - have seen that good old getting a taste of humanity thing in sci-fi so many times before.

Plus, such a waste of the prettiness that is Ryan Carnes. *pouts*

Who's Ryan Carnes? *looks up* Elliot? Who was Elliot? There was an Elliot in this episode? O_O

Maybe part of it is that I'm a bit fed up of the Daleks now. They've just been a bit too present over the last three years!
Did they reapear this much during the classic series?

Hmm. IMDB has him as "Elliot." Was it Elliot Lazlo? Oh! Maybe Lazlo Elliot? Weird. But anyway, he was a cutie at the beginning, wasn't he? But then spent the rest of the episode under makeup.

Yeah, even though I've got this thing with Daleks (they're cute! they roll! *SQUISHES*), I was sorta hoping this would be the end. But I guess that's what finales are for.

I think they were a bit more spread out, but it's hard to tell - I've been skipping around a lot.

Oh! And I've just remembered the Doctor's "Tullulah with 2 L's and a H." loved that! Don't know why but I did.

Yeah, I'm feeling that way about all the eps for series 3, actually, which makes me a wee bit sad. I was hoping I'd at least like Martha and the new series, but I'm really starting to feel annoyed by her and bored by the show. And I felt like I was watching some cheesy soap with some of the dialogue, especially at the end bit.

I think I'd watch Smith & Jones again. And possibly the Shakespeare one. But overall, nothing's gotten me super excited.
I was hoping I'd at least like Martha and the new series, but I'm really starting to feel annoyed by her and bored by the show.
For me Martha...well, Martha's *crush* became less annoying to me in these last two episodes than prior. Man, Gridlock irked the hell out of me with that. But these last two it seemed like she was starting to finally get a clue. THANK GOD.
As far as Martha herself, I thought she was very cool back in Smith & Jones, but since then she's sorta settled into indifference with me, only irking me when she has her "love me!" moments and only making me bounce when she does something smart, like hooking up the lightning rod. The rest of the time...
(Of course, ignoring the whole lightning thing in the first place since I could have SWORN they were talking about solar flares before...but it somehow became lightning.)
And I felt like I was watching some cheesy soap with some of the dialogue, especially at the end bit.
Oh, that whole "someone for everyone" stuff?

Yeah, I guess it's the crush bit that's getting to me. I just want to grab her and shake her and say 'get over it. he's just not that into you!!!!' ;) But yes, I suppose she is finally starting to clue in, especially with her comment about how he looks at her but is seeing someone else.
(Of course, ignoring the whole lightning thing in the first place since I could have SWORN they were talking about solar flares before...but it somehow became lightning.)
LOL! Unfortunately I wasn't paying too close of attention, so I can't help ya on that! ;)
Oh, that whole "someone for everyone" stuff?
No, that bit I had a heart tug, so I liked that. But the bit with Tallulah and Lazlo as he's dying. I was rolling my eyes. Maybe I'm becoming jaded. *shrugs*

I'm clinging to that hope! And after all, the supposed theme of this series is hope! ;)
But the bit with Tallulah and Lazlo as he's dying. I was rolling my eyes. Maybe I'm becoming jaded. *shrugs*
Oh. Heh heh.

Um, he was totally thinking about Rose at the end? Yay? Oh yes, death wishes galore! Maybe this is the lead-in to...those episodes?

Yeah, even I wasn't having much Dalek squee in this episode. Where I point and squish for they are too adorable for words. (Yes, I have a very strange problem with Daleks.)
This whole episode made me feel like a bitter, cynical person, because no WAY would everyone in 1930 New York be so huggy with Martha and Solomon.
I saw that brought up by many people after last week's episode, and while I *totally* agree, I put a mental "lalalala" on that part. Just so utterly unrealistic.
And poor Laszlo would be dead pretty soon.
You'd kinda think, wouldn't you? But again, I was lalalalaing.
And why is it evil to kill the last Dalek *HUFF*
I don't think they really successfully got that across. I kinda get it thinking back on it now - it was a genocide thing. Even back with Four, he couldn't completely wipe them out when he had a chance. But here I think it was more of a Face-of-Boe-last-of-his-kind-type thing. The Doctor seems to be trying to grasp onto people/entities that could possibly identify with or understand him this series. He was *desperate* not to lose the Face of Boe, when he barely even knew him. Met him on Platform One, and then had a few words with him in the hospital. It's not very rational, but it seems the Doctor's a bit lost at the moment.
The Dalek was also last of his kind, and so the Doctor tries to grab hold again. And hell, this one is SO irrational. The Doctor *knows* a Dalek is a Dalek. But maybe he had it in his mind that Rose had done it once (with a little genetic help) - she'd gotten a Dalek who thought it was the last to have a redemption of sorts - and so maybe it could happen again?
Um, he was totally thinking about Rose at the end? Yay?
*waves flag*
Oh yes, death wishes galore! Maybe this is the lead-in to...those episodes?
I would *kill* for an Idiot's Lantern episode right about now.

As an astrophysics student I practically fell in my margarita at the "solar flare". Oh. My. God.
I kinda wish they'd killed DT in the episode. What an amazing twist that'd be. Ooh.

Yeah, I *really* doubt I'll be needing to buy S3 DVDs.

HA!

Would have shocked the hell out of everyone, wouldn't it have? Although we've already seen previews for the whole series where he's in it.

The Doctor is in a really bad place. He offered himself up to the Daleks to kill twice, for Pete's sake, with absolutely no expectation that he'd survive. I'm sorry Rose is gone, Doctor, but you really need to snap out of it. Rose would whack you upside the head if she could see you now.
Couldn't *exactly* figure out why the Doctor was helping to create a new race. That whole reasoning is a bit fuzzy in my mind.
I think that he was thinking that they'd be different from the Daleks and that the Daleks would no longer be rampaging across the universe killing everything inferior if he did it. But very hazy logic, to me.
And I thought it was a solar flare that was supposed to give power to these people, but lightning did it?
*snerk* Dear, this is Doctor Who science! It's not supposed to make sense! *handwave*
Yeah. Why...why've they got the humandalek chained up like a pet?
... because the producers/writers thought it looked cool? I thought it looked ridiculous, personally.
I enjoyed it while I was watching it, but I find it's best not to think about it too much.

SHHHHHH!

When I imagined S3, I *honestly* did not see him in such a place of despair. Well, you've read my post-Doomsday fic - I imagined him going on pretty much as usual, his mind wandering to her in the quiet moments and *very* private about her. He'd not even mentioned Rose's name to Martha in all the time she was there (until the plot kicked in.)
But I guess if you think of it that while the Doctor was healing from the Time War, he definitely wasn't recovered. And so you had the person who was helping him heal being taken away, which not only ripped open that old wound, but added another wound to it.
I think that he was thinking that they'd be different from the Daleks and that the Daleks would no longer be rampaging across the universe killing everything inferior if he did it. But very hazy logic, to me.
Yeah, I guess. But why help make them at all? Does the universe need a new race?
*snerk* Dear, this is Doctor Who science! It's not supposed to make sense! *handwave*
*flails*

Yeah. Heh. They came out with him on this leash chain, and I had a "WHY?" reaction. Probably only because I'd had several other "WHY?" reactions already.
I enjoyed it while I was watching it, but I find it's best not to think about it too much.
*switches off brain*

They lose a lot of impact when they are constantly trundled out.
