Syrup Sponge

Why do I get the feeling that this insta-bake sponge is to the real thing as Top Ramen is to real Japanese noodles? But, the packaging seems to indicate that it at least originated in the UK. For one thing, no nutritional value chart in sight. It's also spitting out strange words at me like "Egham," "Surry," "England," and using some kind of measurement unit known only as "ml." Hmm.
Why do I love that this company's headquarters is in a place called Thorpe Lea Manor? It sounds so...so...

The picture on the box looks like cake.
Well, here I go.
Holy crap that's sweet! But now I understand the "it's *not* cake" thing. It's cake-like, but a really moist, eggy cake. The taste kind of reminds me of pancakes. Don't think we really have any equivalent here in the States. Okay, I don't think I can eat anymore - the aforementioned sweetness and it's really, really rich. But pretty darn tasty. Very comfort food-ish.
Now in the grander scheme of things, if I hadn't ever tuned in to a little show called Stargate SG-1, I wouldn't be eating microwaved syrup sponge right now.
Incredible.
In case you're wondering, I got this at a local market that has some fun import sections: UK, Germany, Australia, France, Italy. Anyone got anything else I should try?

I dunno...I picked up the chocolate-egg candy thing from the store a few minutes ago...it's hollow and hatched a toy smurf. It's called "Kinder Surprise" and I wanted to be surprised, and I *think* from the writing on the packaging, it's German.
Who knows how you'll be surprised...

Well, the Kinder Egg I bought last week had a fantastic/bizarre toy in it - it was a traffic light with eyes and arms and eveything! But that's not all... when you press down on it's little hat the 'lights' (i.e. stickers) change colour and it's arm moves up and down; waving a truncheon at you! Now, how could any kid (*cough* 24 year old) not love that? And it only took me half an hour to build it {g}.
The chocolate's scrummy, too!

I mean, I went to a British-run school for British expats in Dubai when I was ferry little bitty. I also had British tutors. Heh. Only ever visited Britian. And then only for 4 days. One of these days...

Okay. This, combined with the Awesome Post of Awesomeness, has earned you the prize for Most Wonderfully Random Person I Have Known In Quite Some Time. Unfortunately, that's too long to engrave on the plaque, so you'll just have to accept the honor for honor's sake.
