Music recs!

I'm groovin' on Live's Throwing Copper album. Yes, again. Just love it! :)
I can feel it comin' back again
Like a rollin' thunder chasing the wind
Forces pullin' from the center of the earth again
    I can feel it.
Music recs! Need music recs! New songs. Old songs. Anything! Well, not *anything*. I swear if there's a boy-band, Celine Dion or Top-40 rec in there, I'll whack you with a stick!

Wow...a lot of people listing some great stuff... I adore Desert Rose - Cheb Mami (sp?) just adds something so wonderful to that song. Ofra Haza... go for the non-English stuff (*still hurting after her tape containing the non-English In N'Im Alu (sp?) got chewed up*). And Dar Williams is class as well. Along the same lines as Dar I'm going to suggest Cheryl Wheeler - an album such as Sylvia Hotel.

Non-English. Got it. Cheryl Wheeler? Have not heard of her (him? them?) and will check out.

Hotel...Hotel California! Haven't heard that in ages! (sorry *g*)

Lately, I've found myself going back into the past - so I've got a wide variety cued up on the computer as early as Three Dog Night - Eli's Coming - right through to Shakira, taking a side swipe through the Rolling Stones, Abba, Chris de Burgh and Big Country.

Yes yes yes!! :D Whenever I need a pick-me-up I haul out Dancing Queen. Bwah!

And of course, I have to go for Kathy Mattea - from whence I get my username. If you like country go for something like Walking Away a Winner. If you want more celtic go for Love Travels onwards. LT was what hooked me *g*

Have not heard Kathy Mattea's stuff. Will have to have a listen. Not really into country. Just about the only type of music I don't care for. Some songs are fun.

I do like celtic though (funny, since they're very related). Will check out Love Travels.

It's a she. And Sylvia Hotel has an interesting mix of serious and lighthearted. The Potato song will stick in your head and Right Way to do the Wrong Thing is S/Jish.

Right, here's my short celtic list *g*

Kathy Mattea - Roses (actually moreso than LT - the guy who wrote the title cut of LT wrote two on Roses, plus there's an incredible instrumental written by her long-time guitarist)

Ceili Rain - Say Kay-lee (the guy who wrote LT, but I found this album in a Christian store - just so's you know!)

Dougie MacLean - Scottish singer/songwriter - go for a compilation. I've got the Putamayo label one and love it.

The Oyster Band - Welsh and raucous - either Trawler or Deep Dark Ocean (which has one song done in both English and Welsh)

I've got some celtic compilations I'd be happy to burn for you to get a sampler of... it's all British celtic rather than American/Canadian.

Thanks for the list! Ooo - a compliation? *g*

I bought a couple when I lived in Scotland. The only ones I've found here tend to be a little on the cheesy side *g*

Cheesy? Well, I'd imagine that folk music from the indigenous area would be the best. :)

Oh absolutely...

... its all modern celtic stuff, btw... a little rock thrown in, but some wonderful stuff all the same :)

When I get a moment I'll see what I can do for you :)
