So we're up to S2 in watching all of New Who (in prep for watching S4 this spring.) Which means we're only a few weeks off from THAT episode. That episode that I've not watched since when it first aired.

Um, can I get a note from my flist that says I'm not allowed to watch Doomsday?

[identity profile] jesidres.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Dear People who need to know,

Mrv is excused from watching Doomsday, as it leaves her sobbing, quivering mess. We believe it's an allergic reaction to angst.

Sincerely,

Her Insane F-List.

WOOO!!! Thank you!

[identity profile] a-white-rain.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
BUT THEN YOU'LL MISS ROSE TELLING OFF THE DALEKS. Ha! I say stop after that scene. \o/

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, right! See, I've completely forgotten about some good moments after shutting that episode out of my mind as much as possible.

When the S3 trailer came out and we saw the Daleks, someone brought up the fact that some Daleks had disappeared in Doomsday. I was like, "What the *hell* are you talking about?? Daleks disappearing??" The last thing I really remember is the Doctor mocking Jackie in front of the TARDIS, and then it goes into this blur. I'm happy with the blur.

The trick is to watch Doomsday over and over again until you become numb to it. Not sure how long it takes because I still start crying when Rose runs to Jackie after the Doctor disappears. But before that with rapid blinking and looking away from the screen and talking loudly over the angst I barely tear up.

Clockwork Orange!

Oh hell, the music from the beach scene can send me into a spiral of angst.

Here's what you do.

Watch the first part.
START the second part, and as soon as they're both holding onto the thingies and the BADGUYS start to go through, TURN IT OFF.

That way it ends happily ever after. =D
Because what really happened in the third series was Rose was in Tens bed (she was in a severe sex!comma), but because youngins watch it, they couldn't show that without having to do a lot of 'splainin.

BWAH!

No no no. Switch to SDoaCG and tell yourself that it's the Doctor and Rose!

Dear [livejournal.com profile] dwrewatch,

[livejournal.com profile] mrv3000 cannot watch Doomsday as it contravenes Doctor's orders to avoid triggers for her Uncontrollable Weeping Disorder.

-------------------------------------------------

I usually console myself with the knowledge that it could have been worse (see: the Julie Gardner-mandated alternate take, or if instead of the beach reaction we'd seen Ten telling Rose he loves her into thin air in the TARDIS and realizing as he's saying it that she's not hearing it).

Thank you. Next thing you know I'll be writing 28,000 word fix-it fic and spiraling downward until I'm finally writing babyfic... Oh wait.

I'm going to watchit because damnit I need a good cry and I can be guaranteed of that when i watch Doomsday.

*sniffles just thinking if it*

OR!!!!!! Watchit with the visual commentary of David and Billie :) It's good and funny.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
I never really feel the need for a good cry. *shoos the episode away*

OOOOOH. Yeah, maybe I'll cheat! I've never watched that all the way through before, although the flist has spammed me with the cute smooch they do at the end.

I haven't watched it either, not even to see it with the commentary. I can't. IT BROKE ME.

You must join me in non-weeping mess solidarity.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I might be able to do it with the commentary. Maybe.

[identity profile] javabreeze.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe there's something wrong with me because I like watching Doomsday. I usually just start watching from point the Rose decides to stay with the Doctor until the end. *shrugs*

But I agree watching with Biliie and David's commentary. It's hilarious esp the phone bit. *g*

OW. Ow ow ow. OWWWWW. *sniffs* I don't do angst well.

[identity profile] ninamazing.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
I know, right? I'm already nervous about catching up -- I'm only up to "Boom Town" and I'm starting to get really, really nervous because I pretty much would like to just call it quits after "The Parting of the Ways."

:((((((

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I have a very good ability in pretending that Doomsday doesn't exist while watching S2. I find it quite healthy.

[identity profile] goldy-dollar.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
How did you ever manage to go through it the first time around? (I have a vague memory of Doomsday and then LOTS OF SNOT. *whimper*)

But let's face it, if you skip it, your [Bad username or site: dwrewatch / @ livejournal.com] will be incomplete by one episode and that would drive you CRAZY.

And she's coming back! Think of the Time Babies! *FLAIL*

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, it partly helped that I spoiled myself first, and that the outcome was a whole hell of a lot better than what fandom had been insisting upon - namely that Rose needed to leave the Doctor by choice in order to "grow up." Very long metas for weeks insisting on that. I always had an "are we seriously watching the same show?" reaction to that, but I was afeared that we could actually get that.

So it really did help to know that the story they told at the end was one that I really thought was being told all along. However, it still wound up crushing me on the characters' behalf.

[identity profile] tsukara.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
I forgot it was coming up on the rewatch, and so went and watched it again because I was overdue for a weepathon, and that's one of the sure things. And then I watched it again on Saturday during the OSK chat. And now I'm going to have to watch it again. It gets easier every time. Until I being someone into the room who's seeing it for the first time, and them crying makes me cry and...it's just a vicious circle, innit?

But, no, if I have to suffer, than so do you. :D However, alcoholic drinks are permitted and encouraged.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
How about drinking and the commentary? I could maybe do that!

I just ran the capping software against it over the weekend. I did Fear Her, Army of Ghosts, and Doomsday all in one go.

That's not an advisable three hours. (well, 2 1/2)

[identity profile] principia-coh.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Less advisable would've been AoG, Doom and TRB all in one go. At least you started with floof.

Don't do it! Don't watch! It's masochistic! Step away from the DVD!
(how's that for dissuasion?)

I'm currently thinking about doing the booze/commentary combo. That might work!

You could always ask for an edited version. With like...stuff from "Fear Her" inserted at the end.

But the poor soul of the editor.
I live in S1.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, yeah. I might need massive doses of fluff after that.

Um, can I get a note from my flist that says I'm not allowed to watch Doomsday?

Kind of like I'm not allowed to watch the final Silk Stalkings episode Dead Asleep. It's funny cause I can watch Last Kiss Goodbye, which is the episode Chris actually dies in. But I can't watch them put him into the ground. Or the chief of police hand Rita the flag.

Awwwwww!
