Disneyland babble

I actually got a separate Thank You note for renewing my Disneyland annual passport this year. *wonders if they're concerned about people's disposable income this year*

(And this is probably where [livejournal.com profile] diavestra will come in and tell me she gets a thank you note every year because she's just that special.)

I got my AP magazine and was thumbing through.

  • They keep pimping their new Dream Suite, which is what they made out of the Disney Gallery over Pirates of the Caribbean. HMPH. This thing has absolutely NO appeal to me, and I'm still a bit miffed they demo-ed the Gallery. Okay, so it wasn't ever that busy, but I always loved looking at the art and special displays they had in there. And this new Dream Suite? Exactly how many people does this affect? Considering that you really can only win a stay at this place? 99.999999% of people will never see the inside of this place, and they want me to get excited about it?

I'm not a stereotypical AP-er. I don't generally whine if something's not painted right or that the color of the new Tigger costume will seriously burn out your retinas (even though it will), but this? PFFFFFT! How about spending the money on something most people will see?

  • They gave some details on how they're going to fix DCA. Heh. I actually don't mind DCA too much. It's mellow due to lack of people, and you can sit around and drink wine. (And Soarin' Over California is a Must Hit every time I go. I'm pretty sure I discover my bliss on that ride every time.) Of course, they probably need to make money on it and all, so they really have to do something.

    • The main entryway plaza will become "Walt's California": 1920's themed to imagine what it was like when Walt arrived in CA. 20s could be cool. And it's almost cute how they're trying to give it some sort of tie to Disney. (Also, if this means killing the soundtrack they blast in this area, I'm ALL FOR IT.)

    • New The Little Mermaid ride. Probably a dark ride like Monsters Inc.

    • Toy Story Mania. Dark Ride Plus, from what I understand. Interactive. Actually, this is supposed to be opening this summer already. I'll probably check it out in the fall.

    • New 12-acre Cars Land based on the Pixar movie. It says it will have three new attractions, but doesn't say what they are.

    • It doesn't mention any new E-Ticket rides, which is what that park really needs. It actually could use a couple new ones. But maybe the Cars Land will have a Florida-style Test Track, which would make sense.

  • The new monorails are coming - or probably already there. I'll have to check them out.

  • They've added sparkling wines to the tasting bar in DCA. I'm not really big on sparkling wines, but that does sound appealing to have there. Too much wine and I'm either ready for a nap or am busily counting boobs, and sparkling wine's not as easy to down. :D (Besides, there have to be some good ones out there, right? This requires taste testing.)

  • Create your own Ear Hat. Custom Ear Hat? I'm intrigued. Please tell me more. (Although no Ear Hat will ever come close to the one I have with "July 17, 2005" embroidered on the back. Yes, I was one of those nutters who went that day.)

Me too.

I didn't renew my Annual Pass this year because I'm going to be abroad next year so it really wasn't worth the cash for what use I'd be able to get out of it. WOE. I miss Disneyland.

Me too.

It was such a neat space too. Now I kinda wish I'd sprung for the Fantasmic special seating just once, since that'll never happen again.

Awwww. Yeah, it's really too much money if you're gonna be gone. :(

That's really interesting. Thanks for sharing. *sigh* I miss Disneyland. I went often enough to justify a season pass when I lived down there, but I never could afford it all at once. And I haven't been back since I left LA two years ago. I wanna go back! *whines a bit about it*

I didn't know that the Gallery was gone!!! That makes me sad. I didn't go there on ever visit, but it was so pretty and interesting and worth a swing through every once in a while.

ITA about California Adventure too. I actually don't go on the rides there, except for Soarin' Over California, which is awesome, but I actually like the atmosphere there and I like the food there (and now that I know that they have awesome wine I'll totally partake next time). And the animation room in the Hollywood section is just magical. I can sit in there for hours and just immerse myself in the awesomeness of Disney cartoons.

It's kinda something that gets in your blood. Well, at least my blood. I haven't gone in a few months and I'm starting to get that itch again.

They had such neat special exhibits as well. Like props from the PotC movies or giant model replicas of different rides. *sighs*

Ooh, yeah. I usually wind up eating over there instead of Disneyland most the time. The food's better and you don't have to wait 30 minutes to get it - and can find a table. I like their wine bar, which is in the courtyard of the Trattoria restaurant. A lot of times they feature really obscure labels that you normally wouldn't find, so that's fun.

Oh, totally! I love that giant main room. Like you said - it's really magical. And off to the side, you can draw Pooh! Okay, I had no idea the Animation Academy had turned into a place where you actually drew characters, so that was interesting this past time. :D Before it was just a little show that you watched while getting off your feet for 10 minutes.

hah! Actually, our renewal stuff just came in the mail this week. I suppose I need to open it and do something with it. And the month's worth of other mail that's sitting around. (I have paperless billing for all credit cards and pretty much everything else is paid automatically online so mail has become much less of a focus in my life. Which leads to piles of the stuff everywhere.)

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-02-27 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I get piles of junk like that too. Most stuff winds up in the shredder though. :D

This year's AP card design isn't anything special. Oh well. I still think it'd be cool to have really unique-looking, flashy designs. Eye-catching stuff that will make other people standing in line notice and want one. See? They're missing out on a marketing opportunity!

[identity profile] diavestra.livejournal.com 2008-02-27 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, hmmpf. I live for cool AP card designs! It's what makes it worth it to be an AP!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-02-27 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
It's blue with I think Minnie and Daisy on it. Mine's at home right now, but it was so unimpressive I considered getting the non-special design this year. But, you know, I need to be special.

[identity profile] diavestra.livejournal.com 2008-02-27 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
This year, I got Matt and Rob the special design and myself the regular one. Because I'm not a fan of Goofy.

New Little Mermaid? Am I going to have to hit you up for Prince Eric things? Or worse yet, invade my former home state?

RAAR.

What? The gallery is GONE? *sniffle*

Prince Eric fan, eh?

It is. :(

Oh, yes. Helllllllllllooooooooo, Sailor! (Sorry, as a young impressionable redhead, he was imprinted on me as the boy to have, and dude, have your seen his butt?)

Overheard this on the elevator at work yesterday:

"--took the kids to Disneyland, which, by the way, is NOT the happiest place on Earth."

BWAH!

I've spent much of today on the verge of telling my boss I want to take a month off from work. No, I don't have any plans to go anywhere. No, I don't really have any plans at all except I don't want to be here. Care to join me at some so-far-undisclosed wienercommune of general slackertude but extreme fabulousness?

YES!!! As long as the wienercommune doesn't require a passport since I don't have one of those.

Add me to the list that misses the Gallery. That was one of my must hits every time I went 'cause I loved looking at all the art. It makes me sad it's gone.

So was I! In fact we went to Comic Con for a Thur-Sat, got the HP book that Friday, then drove up from SD Sat night and stayed at the hotel to get up crazy early the next morning. We only ended up staying at the park until noon 'cause we were so exhausted. (though when I got home my hubby went to bed and I stayed up and finished HP 'cause I couldn't wait) It was a crazy weekend!

They didn't even move it. Just...is no more. They have some art-type stuff on Main Street, but nothing like what they had.

Ha! Cool! I only stayed until around then too, but more because of the crowds. It was NUTS. So I moved over to DCA where cast members were chasing down guests, trying to give them cupcakes. :D

Okay, I had this initial reaction of EAR HAT WHAAAAT? and was imagining little human/elf ears glued to (or poking out of) a hat, and then I realized -- oh. *g*

But I have never been to Disneyland! What are E-Ticket rides?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2008-02-28 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
*snickers* People running around Disneyland with elf ears would be interesting. :D

"E-Ticket" rides are the big rides. Roller coasters and stuff like Indiana Jones. When Disneyland first opened, you'd buy a ticket book to get you on the rides - everything from A - E. They've long since stopped using ticket books since most every park now charges a flat entrance fee, but the name's stuck around. I have vague memories of the ticket book at Disneyland.
