What's this that I have in my hands? A Journal of Impossible Things? Why yes, it is! :D

Overall I wish it were a bit bigger in order to be able to read things easier, but still, SO COOL. No pictures right now since I'm at work, but I might have to scan some of these doodles for iconing purposes. One of the Cybermen doodles is cracking me up.

There's lots of rambling, which you'd expect given that it's supposedly a dream journal.
  • The TARDIS - "my safe place, although may not be safe if I get lost inside it - my magic box." He goes on about it in different places, repeating "safe place" a lot, and calls being inside it like a "mother's embrace," but at one point admits he feels like a fugitive inside it. Although the whole police box motif confuses him. :D

  • The sonic screwdriver is his "metal magic pen."

  • Gallifreyan symbols doodled here and there. "I don't know what they mean, but I know in my dream." And in one place, part of the Torchwood logo scribbled on top of Gallifreyan symbols.

  • Many pages on different enemies seen in New Who, and quite a long ramble about the Daleks.

  • He talks about the strangeness of being in different bodies - can't quite get his mind around that. And he's doodled all Ten incarnations.

  • With K-9 he's certain that the dog is inside the metal housing, which he built since he kept losing the dog. Awwww.

  • He's drawn Rose a few times throughout the journal - the shot we saw in the episode ("she keeps walking away"), in the TV (Idiot's Lantern), and again when he talks about seeing her with gold eyes. He tends to write things over and over sometimes. One thing that I found interesting was a phrase "she wrote a letter on rose petals, scattered through time..." (referring to Bad Wolf) and the last time it's "Rose petals" with a capital R. Little things like that are neat.

He's also doodled roses here and there. "I find myself wanting to draw a perfect rose although I cannot find a rose anywhere!"

  • Martha gets a couple of pages, but her face is blurred and he's annoyed that he can never see her. He draws her with a question mark over her face. He knows she's important, but can't figure out why.

  • There's a page that's a bit wild - it seems to be a prophesy of Utopia (with maybe a dash of Journey's End). How could John Smith see this? "I have seen the opposite of a star. A darkness rather than a light on the void. There is a world that lives there, terribly close to disaster. It feels most like a vision, a prophesy. Like something out of astrology, that the placing of these stars is important."

But really, loads of stuff. 78 pages worth. My precious. :D

And the sonic screwdriver lights up. Hee! Now only if it were real - I could use one of those.

Sounds to me like they're talking about Krop Tor there.

Mine just arrived; I haven't gotten to pop it yet. I'm looking forward to it!

(The Vortex Manipulator looks pretty great too!)

Oh, I didn't even think about that! Hmm. You could be right.

I had to finally put it away. I really should be doing work. :D

(The Vortex Manipulator looks pretty great too!)

That's Jack's wrist thingie, right?

I've got a picture of that particular page here and since it's opposite the picture of the Ood, I always assumed it was Krop Tor. There seems to be two double pages dedicated to that double-parter, which I suppose makes sense because a) it's something that shook the Doctor quite a lot and b) the devil is something John Smith would have been more able to conceptualise than most other stuff.

Mine is almost here I just know it! Can't wait.

The message on rose petals bit is gorgeous!

I love his whole description of Rose there - you can tell he's completely in awe, which mirrors how Nine looked during that whole scene.

[identity profile] morrighangw.livejournal.com 2009-02-19 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't it awesome? I just love it. And I also have much love for the sonic. =D

It really is completely awesome!! \o/

I love the "letter on rose petals" image. It's rather gorgeously poetic. And far more coherent than a lot of John Smith's ramblings.

Did you see the picture? The letters on the rose petals are a "B" and an "A", despite the fact that I don't believe he ever mentions "Bad Wolf" in the journal.

And if you make shiny icons, I may end up nabbing one or two! I wish I had good scans. My digital camera wasn't bad for getting the text readable enough for people, but most of the pictures are at funny angles!

It really is.

I didn't notice that!

I think I'm going to have to. I actually have a scanner on my printer, so we'll see how good of images it can take.

Aw, K9 keeps getting lost, so he had to build a metal house around it, that's adorable! And I like all the Rose bits, and the rose petal analogy is pretty.

And I found a place to listen to The Stone Rose while doing homework, so that was lovely. :D

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-02-19 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
The K-9 stuff is SO CUTE. The drawings of it are great!

And all the Rose stuff will never not make me "awww."

*is impressed at your ability to listen to something while doing homework* (That's something I could never do. Not even music.)

*Bursts into tears*

If only I was the CEO of a failing company! I could buy this! ;)

Maybe I'll do like everyone else and spend money I don't really have and buy it anyway. XD

Maybe there's still time to defraud thousands of investors?

God, I love the "perfect rose" bit so, so much. And awwwwwwww, his feelings about the TARDIS. "A mother's embrace"...I may have just awwwwed out loud (I have SUCH a soft spot for the TARDIS). Also heee on the "metal magic pen", K-9, and I totally read the prophecy as TIP/TSP.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-02-19 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
All his ramblings on the TARDIS are really lovely, and there are several pages of it. He seems really enamoured of it. And, of course, enamoured by Rose. John Smith: fanboy. :D

And I think I'm going to have to go with TIP/TSP now that people have pointed it out.

He's also doodled roses here and there. "I find myself wanting to draw a perfect rose although I cannot find a rose anywhere!"

GAH! MY HEART! Oh that is so sweet. Bless poor John Smith.

That seals it, I'm buying this next week when I get paid.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-02-19 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It really is terribly sweet! He rambles though a lot of it, quite confused about what he's seeing, although there are moments of accidental insight.

[identity profile] greenpear.livejournal.com 2009-02-20 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
I do want to see one of them some day.

Sounds like you're enjoying your journal...

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-02-20 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
I am! I'm really loving looking at it. :)

[identity profile] principia-coh.livejournal.com 2009-02-20 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
The further thought occurs... does the release of this toy signal the possibility of them actually coming out with a John Smith figure?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-02-20 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm. Maybe?

Yep! Really hope that a bigger version comes out eventually. The writing is difficult to read but I love looking at the pictures!

I love the sonic pen!! ;D

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-02-20 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
The pen is so amusing. And a whole lot brighter than I would have thought. You can practically use it like a mini flashlight. :D

OKAY, this is so going in the Amazon cart. Like, five minutes ago, actually. Sigh. I look forward to the mocking from the family. Shut UP! I have reached a goofy level of fandom when I start buying books about the show. No action figures for ME, no, I am looking speculatively at Primeval novels, even though I know they have a fair chance of being crap.

Welcome to the dark side. :D

And be warned that it is on the small side. Like 4" x 3" when closed.

Wow it sounds lovely. I might need to get one for myself.

I SO WANT A COPY!!!! I own absolutely ZERO Doctor Who merchandise (aside from the DVDs of course) but this (along with an adipose plushie) are tow things that I really, really, REALLY want to get my grubby little hands on!

It's VERY cool. It's even got a cute little leather-like cloth cover. *pats it*
