I wanted to click "sugar" four or five times. Lots of sugar.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-02-24 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
HA!! Every once in a while I'll throw a couple of grains (seriously, like half a pack at most) to take the edge off. But I generally like it with nothing in it.

I think the first time I had tea that I actually LIKED was when [livejournal.com profile] taraljc made it for me the 'British' way. Namely, with milk and sugar. I've since made it my hot beverage of choice.

Mmm, tea.

And I will do flavored or Earl Grey on occasion, but not with any regularity.

ETA: Mind you, I don't use sugar, I use Splenda.

I've tried it with milk and sugar before, but I swear I didn't do it right or something. Bleh.

My favorite is actually the tea I picked up at Disneyland - a black tea with apricot and some other flavors in it. Sadly it's already gone.

Earl Grey. With splenda and milk. First thing in the morning, directly after I've hit snooze too many times, then hurled myself out of bed and down the stairs to the kitchen.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-02-24 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh heh! I've been trying to drink more tea instead of coffee in the morning myself. Some days I have to break down and have coffee though.

I love tea! I'll put sugar in basic black tea but if that same tea is cold I don't put sugar. No sweet iced tea please! I don't use sugar in any of the other kinds I drink. And milk is just weird. ;)

Have to add that one of my favs is tea, Earl Grey, hot. XD

I have 4 sugars and the tiniest amount of milk. I also let the teabag sit in the mug for a good 15 minutes before chucking it out. I love strong, sweet tea.

Ooh, and you should have lemon on there, that's what Russians do.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-02-24 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh right! I think I remember hot tea with lemon being a fad around here in the 90s, but it died out for some reason. You can still get lemon with iced tea, but I wasn't mentally in iced tea mode.

[identity profile] gowdie.livejournal.com 2009-02-24 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
English Breakfast with sugar. Chai without. Currently chai.

But where is the iced option? Real iced, mind. As in, make a pot of tea, pour over ice with sugar.

Since I love all kinds of tea, I just clicked the ones I drink regularly! (And a lot of those are the same type of tea! Just, y'know...different blends...). If I'm drinking some form of black tea (I like Rose Black Tea. It smells nice), I'll just put 1/3 tsp honey in (unless I really want sweet tea, then I might splurge and put in half!). Unless it's English/Irish/Chai breakfast in which case I need milk. Green or herbal almost never get anything in, unless I want something sweet (honey) or I'm sick (lemon and honey).

I don't really put sugar in anything. Honey seems to bring out flavor in tea, but sugar just add sweetness. And I hate chemicals sweetners. If there's nothing else, I'll use, like, 1/4 a packet of one, but they're just too sweet.

Yeah, I'm fussy about tea preparation.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-02-24 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Does Rose Black Tea actually have rose flavor in it? Or it just the brand? I've never had rose-flavored tea before.

I do admit to sometimes putting in a squirt of honey. Most days I'm too lazy, but if it goes in it's just a bloop. Like... 1/8 of a teaspoon or something. I really can't stand artificial sweetners either. I'd rather not use anything.

Yeah, I'm fussy about tea preparation.

How about throwing a mug in the microwave and then sticking a bag in? :D

[identity profile] honorh.livejournal.com 2009-02-24 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm very particular about what I put in tea. Green=nothing. I take it straight, like the genmai cha I'm drinking with breakfast. Black, I take sugar. One particular tea I have, called Traditional Afternoon Tea, is so strong that I take milk in it as well, though I normally don't. Herbal, I take honey. Oolong, it depends. Honey with some blends, sugar with others.

And powdered tea can go hang.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-02-24 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)

I don't think I've gotten to that level of sophistication when it comes to tea. So far it's been basically "straight tea! *sucks*"

And powdered tea can go hang.

I don't think I've ever heard of powdered tea. Ohhhh. Wait. I think I remember my mom having instant tea when I was a kid. That was nasty stuff.

My perfect cup of tea: Medium milkyness, and 3 sugars. Just plain tea, too. No crappy herby things!!!!

Also full english breakfast ftw.

I'm going to be a complete heathen and say
HALF AND HALF

LOTS of sugar
LOTS of cream

Really, tea for me is just a vehicle for cream and sugar

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-02-24 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
*snickers*

I think I'd have to work my way up to cream. I'd need to start out with milk.

I take your poll and raise you a poll which asks how you MAKE a cup of English Breakfast Tea.

http://selenityshiroi.livejournal.com/47640.html

(okay, it was just a poll to test my snazzy paid account features back in the day, but it doesn't make the questions ANY LESS IMPORTANT!)

My answers to this poll: English Breakfast Tea, Milk and Sugar. MADE IN A TEAPOT. YES, THIS IS IMPORTANT. AND TEA ADDED TO A LITTLE MILK, NOT MILK ADDED TO THE TEA. THAT IS ALSO IMPORTANT.

Never underestimate the importance of tea to an Englishwoman.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-02-24 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I've...never done the teapot method. :D

Okay, I've sort of done it. With loose tea I've brewed it in one cup and strained it to another. I do know enough not to use a tea ball.

And why milk first?

My mum is ridiculously snobbish about my tea drinking. She and dad drink Earl Grey, which I dislike, but last time I was home I found a container with some PG Tips in it and was all "whoo... tea I can drink" (I'm not exactly fussy - I just like normal tea with milk and sugar). When I asked her why she had tea that wasn't Earl Grey, she was all "oh, that's for when we have builders or people over doing work".

My current favourite is Russian Caravan, but I also like Assam, Ceylon, Darjeeling, Oolong (I prefer that one cold), Lady Grey (like Earl Grey but with added citrus), English Breakfast and English Afternoon.

I’ve tried Green tea, Lapsang Souchong, Earl Grey, Chai and Rose Pouchong but apart from the last of them I don’t like them.

Next on my list to try is Gunpowder.

(As for how I drink it? à la mode anglaise, usually, which for me means milk-and-no-sugar. Oolong I drink without anything in it.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2009-02-24 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I do like Lady Grey too. Mmmmm. I'm not familiar with English Afternoon though.

I have a Gunpowder tea at the moment, but I'm not overly wild about it. That just might be the particular brand though.

And I really do need to try Oolong tea.
