I've been watching Spooks/MI-5. (Why did they change the title for the US market? Although I have to say I prefer "MI-5" to "Spooks.")
(The real reason I started this is because I want to work up to the later series when Richard Armitage joins the cast. :D)
Okay, MI-5? Makes the Torchwood crew look completely healthy and sane and well adjusted. FOR SERIOUS.
One thing that I've found fascinating is the amount of paranoia and...and I don't know quite what to call it. These people would kill and die for each other, but at the same time turn on each other in a second when it comes to internal politics. It's fairly fucked up. Oh, sometimes they'll justify it as "for the greater good," but not always.
The moles are also fascinating. Like having someone from the PM's office infiltrating MI-5, just to get good information. It'd be like the White House covertly sending someone into the FBI so they could get decent info as to what was going on on a regular basis. Does that happen? It kind of boggles my mind.
Also, so far no one ever simply walks away from MI-5. They're either killed in action (DANNY!! *SOBS*) or are pushed out of it (Tom and Zoe). At least Zoe was able to end up with her fiance in Chile, thanks to Danny. Oh Danny. *sniffs* And hopefully Tom skipped off to America to find the ex-CIA woman. I would love to see Tom and Zoe accidentally running into each other on the outside. I'm curious as to what they'll actually do now. What line of work do you go into after being a spy?

The name change happened because 'spook' has been used as a derogatory term for Black people in the US. Not recently, maybe, but still, probably not the sort of thing you want associated with your show.

I normally can't stand high turnover in cast, but I knew there was a lot of rotation ahead of time. That probably helped.

AH. Yeah, I didn't even think of that.

PS Tom married Christine Dale, according to some sanctioned add-on to the show. Yay for one happyish ending. They run a security firm.

I think I'm pretty prepared for everyone to get burned at one point or another.
Anyway, I believe they changed the name to MI5 here because 'spook' is a racial slur in American English.
Didn't even cross my mind. It's a pretty old term.

Me, too! And then I developed a massive crush on Adam/Rupert Penry-Jones and sort of forgot about RA. But season six Adam began to annoy me, so now I'm ready for RA's character (Lucas?). It'll be a million years before it's out on DVD, tho. I know there are other ways of obtaining it, but I can't seem to manage. :(

<---- And Russian tattoos.
I've watched Spooks all along, and always loved it, so I was even more excited when I found out that RA was joining the cast. I downloaded all the episodes as the season played out, so if anyone needs a torrent site I can hook you up. Or if you're not bit torrent people I can burn off avi files for you. Let me know - no one should suffer from RAW (Richard Armitage Withdrawl)!

Oh, wow. I'm really impressed. My roommate and I just finished the first season of Torchwood, and at the end of every episode we are kind of boggled by the team. We keep watching, of course... But we are boggled. Well, and we love Jack and think Ianto is adorable.
What line of work do you go into after being a spy?
I just got around to watching Quantum of Solace. I think you run off to an island to hide from anyone who knows you.

I'm telling you, Torchwood is tame compared to MI-5.

Probably a good plan. :D

See also ALIAS and XF. And really, it seems like a good plan to me. As long as it isn't Lost island.

Did you know they got married in real life? They waited to date until he was off the show (and she was divorced from husband #1) and had a kid with the second on the way when they tied the knot.
It was especially fun when he showed up on Ashes to Ashes. Totally different from Tom (and Mr. Darcy).

And Mr. Darcy! THAT'S where I've seen him before! *puts a mark on UK Actor Bingo*
